About the authors
Robert Fear has lived in Eastbourne, on the south coast of the UK for half his life. He moved there to be with Lynn, his future wife and is still there with her over thirty years later. As cat-lovers they have taken on several rescue cats over the years and are owned by three at the moment.
For his day job Robert works as a self-employed software consultant. In his spare time he writes, edits and self-publishes books, and organises annual creative writing showcases.
Robert’s interest in travel goes back to his twenties when he spent most of his time abroad. His experiences included; a summer in Ibiza, hitch-hiking around Europe and touring the USA & Canada. His most eventful trip was in 1981 when he travelled around Asia.
Born into a religious sect known as the Exclusive Brethren, his father John took the brave step of leaving it with his young family when Robert was nine years old. Robert never saw his grandparents again but is thankful for being able to grow up outside this restrictive group. His life has been full of adventures that he would never have experienced otherwise.
Cat Jenkins has an extensive background in theater, ballet, TV and broadcasting. Her checkered past spans the continent from Los Angeles to New York City. But she chose to settle in the Pacific Northwest where the weather is conducive to long hours before a keyboard.
"Sara When She Chooses" was Cat's first novel.
Her short stories in horror, fantasy, humor, and speculative fiction have appeared online and in various magazines, including her short story "Like Sunlit Honey," which appears in "Metastasis," an anthology benefiting the American Cancer Society.
"The Lilac Lesson" is part of the Story Shares project geared toward encouraging people with reading disabilities.
"The Market at Night," also associated with Story Shares is the winner of Best Book of 2021, 50 States category.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 27, 2019This is a great collection of stories (500-1000 words) and highlights (50-100 words). The writers are challenged by the constraints of the contests to deliver their memoirs effectively. The reader can plunge into India, or Bolivia, or the Sahara, or the South Seas, for just a few minutes as they devour another adventure. Then, with a turn of the page , have a new adventure in a different part of the world. The highlights are like snapshots. A quick taste that leaves room for more. A thoroughly enjoyable reading experience.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2019From Europe to the South Pacific and all places in between, this is a fascinating collection of stories from people who have found themselves in cultures that are foreign to them. You'll laugh, cry and be awed by the experiences of these travellers. It's a great book to carry with you because each story can be read in a short time while you're waiting at the doctor or dentist - or enjoying a cup of coffee in the Spanish sun. Don't miss it!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2019I absolutely love these stories. Have you ever been on a trip and had something silly, excirting, dangerous happen? Or do you go on a trip and just have fun but nothing exciting to tell when you get home? This is the book for all travelers, read it and see if any of these quirky, crazy , dangerous things happened on your trip and if not you will know what to watch out for!!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2023The stories are short, and you can read a few throughout the day when you have spare time. Robert Fear has done an excellent job highlighting these fantastic authors. I enjoyed all three books in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Travel
Robert Fear runs a travel writing competition each year and these are some of the stories from that competition. If you like reading about traveling, you can find a variety of experiences in different parts of the world in this book. Additionally, there are some insights into how travel can reshape our worldview and enrich our philosophy of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting
A selection of enchanting tales covering many different countries including Dominican Republic and Japan. I could relate to the tale of the holiday shirt. I loved the story of the grain assessor, also the Mexican apples, and the mockingbird. Glad I'm never likely to go to Canberra! What fabulous good in Bolivia! Tanami desert is spectacular. The couple walking to Australia sent shivers up my spine! Shocking tale from Bali is horrifying. Loved the tales of camping in New Zealand, but didn't enjoy "Transatlantic Flight". Remind me not to hitch a lift in Columbia! I enjoyed the familiar your of the Isle of Man but can't agree Manx people lack warmth. Loved the tale of the Dragon Ladies. "Through Their Eyes" - Wish I had been there! Would like to have met Jonathan. Love the very short stories at the end and particularly the notes about the authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great collection of travel writers and travel locations
If you like your travel writing in bite-sized chunks, this is the perfect pick-up book. This is a great compilation of interesting writing by new and established writers; the subjects are wonderfully varied, as are the locations featured. A great read.
