The Trouble With Love: A Steamy Enemies to Lovers RomCom (Texas One Night Stands Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 39 ratings

Susannah Quinn is a by-the-book Texas deputy who's about to have her life turned upside down! When the tall, dark, and too-darn-yummy FBI Special Agent D.E. Hogan strolls into the Sheriff's office, battle lines are drawn. To her consternation, she finds herself in a steamy battle of the sexes—and a battle of wills—that's hotter than a bowl of Texas chili!

In order to catch a thief, Susannah and Hogan must pose as husband and wife and go undercover, a situation complicated by the fact that they were almost undercover before—in a Houston hotel. With the help of an over-the-hill Romeo and his lady love, a single mom determined to have her own love affair, and the charm of a small Texas town, Susannah and Hogan must catch a thief and recover stolen jewels in just seven days—all the while fighting the sweet siren call of desire.

When Susannah decides to take matters into her own hands, arrest the thief and get away from Hogan before it's too late, all hell breaks loose. Is there any way she can succeed, or will she lose everything important to her?

Joan Reeves, Writing Happily Ever After—Time After Time, is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Romance. Regardless of the sub-genre, all of her novels have the same underlying premise: "It's never too late to live happily ever after. Her novels have been published in half a dozen languages, and her books are available in audio, ebook, and print.

NOTE: Since Joan has been writing for several years and had print books published with many publishers—American and foreign—be sure you choose a print book with a copyright date after 2011 because Amazon shows all of her old print books here. (Authors have no control over this.) The new print editions have been expanded and show new cover art.

When not writing romance—or nonfiction to share what she has learned in life—Joan divides her time between the hustle and bustle of Houston and a house in the Texas Hill Country where she and her hero, her husband, sit on the porch at night, look at the star-studded sky, and listen to the coyotes howl.

A thoroughly delightful romance. The story of not one but three separate and equally lovely couples.

The first is Suzannah and Hogan. An FBI agent and a beautiful Deputy Sheriff enbroiled in a little drama, that daffly introduces the second pair.

Rory, Suzannah's mother, a recluse from a bad young marriage and Walter a long time widower and Mayor, Hogan's step uncle.

They in turn bring in the third grouping Yvonne, Hogan's step-mother and an aging Jewel thief, of English/Scottish orgins called McConnell.

What a merry chase this story is. I absoluted loved how it all wove together to create a satifying and lovely romance.

    Buy and Enjoy.

This is the third book I read from Ms Reeves and I'll have to say I enjoy her writing. Her books are humorous, romantic and sensual. This book was very enjoyable. Story is about Hogan, a FBI agent on vacation trying to help his family recover some stolen jewels, and Susannah, a young Deputy with aspirations of becoming big in law enforcement. Hogan and Susannah met once in Houston and since then, they have been attracted to each other. Only later, she realizes that they have to work together in an undercover operation to recover some stolen jewelry.

Susannah's character is a complex one due to her tough childhood and things surrounding her family. They have pushed her to alienate relationships and given her a skewed view on love and marriage. Hogan has always been a man on the move, he lives for his job and has a weekness for his family. He didn't hesitate when his uncle asked him for help.

The banter between the characters was hilarious, you can feel the sexual tension and attraction between them. It was very entertaining to see them work together. Working so close was difficult for both of them for many reasons, but unfortunately, there were too many secrets among them to make something work. There are lots of secondary characters that add to this story. I only wish the ending would include an Epilogue so you can followup with everyone and see what happened with their lives.... But overall, great read for an excellent price!

Susannah works as a small town deputy when she's drawn into an undercover assignment with Hogan, her nemesis. They must pose as husband and wife to recover stolen jewels. They are both fighting an attraction to the other. Meanwhile, Susannah's mother is suddenly dating Hogan's uncle.
The plot here was kind of a mess. There are some references to a meeting Susannah and Hogan had the month earlier, but it's not really clear for a long time what it was about. Even once the reader finds out, it doesn't seem to explain their current relationship. Susannah acts like a teenager most of the time. Hogan never really shows Susannah she can trust him either. The whole stolen jewelry plot was just odd.
I picked it up because I thought it might be a fun read, but it was really just okay.

Having read and greatly enjoyed Ms. Reeves' novel, Just One Look, I was looking forward to picking up a copy of her newest book. I was not disappointed. Although The Trouble With Love is laced with humor and sensuality, it's also a poignant tale of forgiveness and redemption and knowing when to let go. Our heroine finds her happily ever after, but not before she faces the ghosts of her past and accepts the future that can be hers. Do yourself a favor; download a copy. You won't be disappointed either.

I'm sorry, I don't get how just about everyone has give this book 5 stars. First of all, the name is misleading. There never was a one-night stand. The story keeps alluding to an "almost" one-night stand the month before. When I started reading this book, it was as if I came in during the middle of a conversation. It should have started two chapters back or at least contained a prologue. The woman in the story (Quinn) mentioned a conversation she had with her father regarding his abandonment. Supposedly, after this conversation, she met the hero (Hogan) who offered her comfort and the "almost" one-night stand. He shows up as a consultant at the sheriff's office where she works a month later. Blah, blah, blah.

To me, the romance between the secondary characters, Rory and Walt, was much more interesting. It was very sexy and straight-forward. It was mature and had none of the frustrating "mis-understandings" that plague 90% of the romance books.

I love Joan Reeves' writing and The Trouble With Love is pure page turning escapism.

Susannah Quinn and Hogan make quite the undercover team - undercover on assignment and undercover in bed!

Joan has created a wonderful, fun group of secondary characters who are just as 'real' as Susannah and Hogan.

This is a sensual, funny, battle-of-the-sexes read that is pure joy!

I enjoyed this book for quite a few reasons. First, I loved the characters and how there were multiple relationships showcased. Susannah and her mother Rory both have issues when it comes to love and they may both be wrong. Then there is that little almost one night stand Susannah had with the man standing in the little town's police station, where she just happens to work. Hogan is a hot as can be 'consultant' or is he? There is heat, passion, forgiveness, trust issues, and lots of fun.
