"A page-turning collage of lives" Times Literary Supplement.
"This insight is so rare and so valuable … a considered and scholarly account of the matriarch of the House of York" (Cecily Neville) Author Philippa Gregory
"Living Like a Tudor deftly recreates the medieval landscape, drawing on the five senses to offer a glimpse of the sights, smells and tastes of 15th- through 17th-century England." Smithsonian Magazine
"A long overdue biography of one of the most dramatic medieval heroines – vivid, very readable, and wonderfully detailed." Author Sarah Gristwood.
"What an artist does with colours on a canvas, Amy Licence does with words on paper." Amazon reviewer Anne Marie Bouchard.
"Amy Licence... is unquestionably the most prolific historian writing today. Her output of books in recent years is incredible, the culmination of a life’s fascination and study of the subject." Historian Nathen Amin.
"In each of Licence's books I've read and reviewed, she reminds me to be careful how I "interpret" the historical people, especially in regards to the era in which they lived. I appreciate Amy bringing my mind back to where it needs to be, to not make hasty judgments, and to take in to account the society, and culture, and unique circumstance in which they lived." Reviewer Annette Hart Kristynik.
"One aspect of Licence’s writing I most appreciate is that she makes it very clear what is fact and what is supposition. I particularly noticed in this biography that she often offered multiple interpretations of various actions, which I thought added depth to her writing." Reviewer Deborah, North Texas
"Amy Licence is one of the best historical writers out there. She is not an apologist, but a responsible historian out to give as much information as she can without imposing her own point of view." Author Carole P Roman
"Amy Licence is a very good writer. She puts you right in the heart of her books. For me, they are unputdownable." Amazon review.
"Licence delves deep into every whispered rumour and innuendo, using solid research to confirm or dismiss each reported fling. Her account is engaging and readable; treading the fine line between popular and academic history with expert precision. Even if you are well-read on the king's many relationships, there are plenty of gems in here that I haven't seen anywhere else!" Author Adrienne Dillard.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2023Wow! I have read many books about the Tudors, and Henry VIII and Catherine's court, and I thought any more books on the subject would be redundant. I was so wrong! Amy Licence creates such believable characters, and adds depth and dimension to her fictional, and historical, figures. I absolutely love Thomasin, she is a level headed, kind heroine you cheer for, and see a bit of yourself in. The author's writing flows so smoothly, I had a difficult time putting this book down! I'm so pleased Amy Licence is working on a third book in the series, my goodness I can't wait. Now I am going to read all her other books.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2023This novel was easy reading and brilliantly wove the threads of intrigue, desire and hope. I gave it 4 stars because the events were in isolation from the everyday populace. I would like to have seen at least glimpses of the influence of court events on the “common people”. I think it would bring in another perspective. I am looking firward to Book 3. Thank you!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2023This was a fascinating book and really made me feel as if I were there! I also loved the first book and am very excited to read the third book in September! These books are extremely well written, have great characters and truly bring history alive in such a relatable way! I highly recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2023There are other reviews so I’m not going into the whole book. It’s good - just buy it.
What I really liked though is there was a huge difference here. I’ve literally read over 100 books about the York/Lancaster/Tudor periods. This is the absolute ONLY book that has ever thought to give Will Carey an actual personality. It was awesome to think “what if” throughout the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2023Cute story for school aged girls. They can imagine themselves and what they would do in the court of Henry the Eighth.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2023This is a sequel to Dangerous Lady, but you needn't have read the first book in this series to appreciate this one. In fact, if you prefer your Tudor fiction to take place at court rather than on its outskirts, you might prefer this one. The focus is on the travails of Catherine of Aragon in the period when King Henry was obsessed with Anne Boleyn but hadn't yet figured out how to end his marriage to Catherine. I liked that in this retelling Catherine gives (almost) as good as she gets; she's less of a cardboard saint than in most other novels of this period. I wish the main character, Thomasina, felt as multidimensional. It's not that she's flat so much as undistinguished, without much character at all. She seemed to have had much more personality in the first book. All the same, the pacing was quick and fluid enough to keep my interest, and the settings were described vividly. Will I read the next book in the series? Probably.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2023I really enjoyed reading about Catherine's court while Henry the eighth dallied with Anne Boleyn and the author superbly informs us of Court life , intrigues romances and Catherine's defiance with her Royal husband!
A great read about that time span in England while the plaque brought many changes to the country.
Love this series a real well written Tudor saga!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2023This is book 2 of the continuing tale of Thomasina Marwood and her life during King Henry VIII. It's wonderfully enjoyable to see the saga of Henry's story though the eyes of someone else. Additionally, you get to go on the journey of Thomasina's life and her family. Hard to put down. This is a definite must read for any Tudor fan!
