Troubled Waters (Pollard & Toye Investigations Book 13) Kindle Edition
The trip of a lifetime is the last one he ever took…
Things take a disastrous turn for American tourist Edward Tuke when he travels to the little village of Woodcombe to trace his English heritage.
He sets out to view a local landmark … and turns up dead.
It seems vandals removed the warning signs at the entrance to a broken bridge and Edward drowned in the river.
But when the local police force get an anonymous tip-off crying murder, they start to think the vandalism may have been premeditated…
They call in Scotland Yard's Chief Superintendent Pollard and Detective Inspector Toye for help.
What was Edward’s family link to Woodcombe? Did anyone in the village have a reason to harm him?
And was his fall more than an accident…?
Troubled Waters is the thirteenth cosy village mystery in the Pollard & Toye crime series: an intriguing police procedural set in rural England.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2021I love all of Elizabeth Lemarchand's books and this is one of my favorites. Read this if you like cozy mystery and if you like the English counrtyside.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2020It is a pleasure to read a well written mystery without grammatical errors and misused words. Characters are interesting and engaging. The plot keeps you guessing. Very good mystery series.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2019This book maybe the best in this series.
The many possible endings and many people that may have guilty, shows that the book is great reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2021I know this was a used book but I was disappointed in how brown and foxed the pages are. Wonder why this volume of the series is not available new. Story line as expected and meets all the cozy criteria. Series is well worth reading if you are a cozy fan. Delivery from seller was timely and inexpensive.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2014This excellent village cozy start off with an American visiting the tiny English village of Woodcombe for the first time and last time on the day of his death, victim of an apparent accident. Only when anonymous letters are sent to the papers suggesting it was anything but "death by misadventure" is Scotland Yard called in. Superintendent Pollard and Inspector Toye must sift through cold clues and interview witnesses who all seem to have something to hide. As she does in her other mystery novels, Elizabeth Lemarchand includes a map of the area, which is helpful on one hand because it helps one to follow Pollard and Toye as they delve deeper into the mystery; on the other hand, it does cause the reader to focus a bit too much on the immediate crime, just as Pollard and Toye do themselves in the novel. The author is very good in the art of misdirection, and proves how good she is in providing a satisfactory and unexpected ending.

As always I dislike ex-library copies - but not when they are as clean and sparkling as this is.
