From the Back Cover

Mary Lou Hunter has her whole life planned out. She is going to marry her longtime boyfriend and live in a bungalow in Seattle's most prestigious neighborhood right next to her best friend, Penny. She is going to be a wife and a mother, and have a family like the one she's always wanted.
On a trip to Hawaii, Lou's eyes are opened to new possibilities. She realizes she might want a few other things in her life, including the alluring surfer, Keoni Makai.
Keoni is known all over Hawaii for his dramatic rescues from the surf. He is a hero, a natural leader, and possibly the most well-loved man on the island. But the tragic death of his best friend haunts him, and he has been guarding his heart for years. Brave and selfless, Keoni isn't the type of man to be careful, except when it comes to love.
Lou might be the only woman who can break down the walls Keoni has constructed. Her head tells her to follow her plan, but her heart won't let her forget the Hawaiian Islands, or the man who embodies their rugged charm.
Set against the magical backdrop of the Hawaiian Islands, Try Easy is the story of soul mates who will risk it all to discover the love they were born to find.

Loved the history of Hawaii and surfing. Reading about the ocean and all ot has to offer was enlightening. Good love story, though a bit graphic in that area.

(audiobook+ebook) It was interesting to go back to the beginning of the series after reading its conclusion, a bit like a time machine. It was especially nice to read Keoni’s story, since he’s a sort of ‘Arlésienne’–we talk about him a lot, but we barely see him.

He sure was a compelling character, and a fascinating entry into Hawaiian culture. History and legends, habits and customs, even language and, of course, surfing and the sea–Keoni was an ocean of knowledge, and the reader learns about Hawaii at the same time Lou does. As for Lou, since she’s an amateur photographer, she was another point of view on the island, the newbie point of view, full of wonder and curiosity.

Their romance was nice–connecting through their love for the land and the culture, the mentor and his pupil. They resist the attraction for the longest time, what with their upcoming separation looming. And, most of all, the fact that Lou’s boyfriend is waiting for her in Seattle.

Yep, be prepared, this book is about cheating. If you don’t love the person you’re with, is it cheating? If you aren’t with someone anymore, but you still love them, is it cheating? If you have sex with someone while thinking of someone else, is it cheating? If it doesn’t mean anything to you, should it mean anything to your partner? That’s only some of the questions that don’t really get an answer, but that are raised in the story. If you aren’t comfortable with cheating, though, I would advise you to not read this book.

Surfing is the third important theme. Fighting the element, winning or losing, feeling the ocean–almost whispering to it. It was a powerful feature of Keoni, and it offered beautiful images and moments.

I enjoyed the narration. The male narrator had a subtle but discernable accent that brought a bit of exotism. The female narrator did her job perfectly. Good dual narration.

This was my first by this author, and I got to meet her last weekend and get my hands on a copy of this gorgeous book! I can’t wait to continue the series.

Try Easy… isn’t that something we can all take to heart?

A Hawaiian vacation with her best friend turned into so much more. Lou had her life planned out back home with a love of photography. Oh the photos she got to take. Upon arrival to Hawaii, their friend was unable to pick them up so instead had two of his friends do the job. In turn, they got the most candid tour and found love. I’m a firm believer that you can have a plan for your life, but there’s a bigger plan you can’t see. That’s what happened to Lou.

Keoni has a strict rule about not dating tourists. He was burned once and vowed to not let it happen again because they always leave. He’s the most known surfer in Hawaii, believes in water safety first, and holds a dear friend’s death to heart as he wasn’t able to save him.

The growth in this book of these characters is wonderful to watch unfold. You can’t help what the heart wants, you can only do your best, and you can’t let guilt consume you.

“Sometimes you gotta let go,” he said. “Don't try so hard. Instead, you gotta try easy.”

The story is good, but the author missed big with the actual way Hawaiian Locals talk. She butchers the Pidgen. The real kicker is giving Keoni chest hair. Nope. If she'd ever been around a real Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander she would know they have very little body hair. No chest hair, can't really grow beards (she's constantly taking about his beard stubble - nope!), so she didn't research her subject very well at all.

I was surprised that this was set in the late 60’s but it almost seemed timeless. I loved the Hawaiian setting and Keoni’s stories about its history and culture. I’m a fickle reader and if a story doesn’t catch my attention and hold it I’m on to a better one. Something about this one kept me reading and I really enjoyed it. I loved the girls vacationing on the beautiful island of Oahu and meeting two island young men with a rich Hawaiian history. Keoni’s connection to the elements especially the ocean as a supreme surfer was a wonderful element. Lou as the young woman who thinks her life is set in Seattle can’t resist the lure of the majestic island man. I loved their slow burn relationship and the sizzling chemistry that finally exploded into some deliciously sexy moments between the two. Hot, hot, hot! The author wrote in an island slang which was a hit or a miss at times and didn’t seem consistent. But I got the hang of pidgin and it made for a few cute moments between Lou and Keoni. Some moments of drama that added to the storyline and lots of emotion with tragedy in Keoni’s past and the question of a future between Lou and Keoni. Great secondary characters with the family and friends. I took a journey down memory lane with the fabulous descriptions of Oahu and I can’t wait for the next story. This was a quick, easy read that’s a little simplistic but with delightful characters and a swoon-worthy romance. I couldn’t have resisted a beautiful island boy!

A love story set in Hawaii, made me want to visit! I didn't find the male characters very realistic, but it was an enjoyable read with some steamy scenes! Probably best for 18-35 age group.
