- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2018In TWISTED AND TIED, Miro’s life is once again on the line, but now Miro and Ian have to deal with new changes in their careers that present complications in their relationship. It also ties up loose ends (no pun intended) regarding Miro’s series-long antagonist Dr. Hartley. In many ways, the resolution to their “twisted” relationship was emotionally devastating and somewhat heartbreaking; it could have broken Miro, but Ian was there as always to ground him. This series was angsty, tragic, and painful. Miro and Ian were complex characters with emotional depth, while the secondary characters offered humor and levity to balance all the angst. Though this appears to be the fourth and final book in the Marshals series, I hope the author will be writing more adventures for Miro and Ian because I really love them and this series and their friends and families. I also really loved that the author didn’t force them into making a decision that wasn’t in their characters. I loved what they meant to each other, how they fit with each other, and I didn’t want that dynamic about them to be ruined by an all-too sappy and traditional HEA. I love both these guys so much. And Eli so won me over in this one. I didn’t want this story to end. I want so much more because these characters, their world, feel so alive and vital. Not to mention, Miro and Ian are so freaking sexy in love. I loved the action, the crime scenes, the character growth, Miro’s heroism. His empathy, intelligence, and capacity for forgiveness. And all the emotions and complexity of human nature. And Ian, so gorgeous and complex, with all his heart and vulnerabilities. I don’t think I could ever get enough of them. This series is just the best. I also gotta say, Mary Calmes is really good a writing dialogue.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2018A perfect ending to Miro and Ian's love story. I loved everything about this book. Going through the whole journey together with these two, I could see how much they work and how well suited they are for one another. I had many times wished for Ian's POV, but all in all I really can't complain. The book ended with a beautiful closure to basically everything (and naturally with a hint to another series, Mary can't have it any other way hehe).
While Miro and Ian have been first partners as US Marshals, then best friends before they became a couple, things are changing now. Recently married, they have a new issue to deal with as a couple - their jobs. They both expected to STAY partners and yet, they are different, and though they work well together, they have their own skill set which means promotions shouldn't be just about sticking together but about what they are good at and suited for. Sam Kage, their boss, have already figured it out but now it's up for them to make sense of it, and find a way to accept the changes and embrace them.
I actually LOVED Sam's ideas about Miro and Ian. Though they started out in a different job they both evolved throughout the years, and though there's this wishful thinking of staying together ALWAYS, the jobs they were offered were much better tailored to them. At first I was mad at the way Ian took Miro's promotion but as they kept on arguing I could see both sides of the equation. Naturally it's easier to understand Miro because we are in his head.. and Ian doesn't always articulate himself very well when emotions are clouding his judgment, especially where Miro is concerned.. Ian's new job also makes sense and allows him to shine and be a better version of himself. I really hope we'll get more of them in the future.. I'm not sure what exactly Mary has in mind except for more couples (just no more of Miro and Ian..) some we've already met, I'll be sure to pick 'em up and devour them as soon as the're out as I'm FINALLY nearing the end of Mary's book list.
The series and Ian and Miro's story can't be finished without a closure with Dr Hartley. The way it unfolded had me holding on to my seat, and yet guessing NOTHING until the very end. It was done beautifully and I'm not saying ANYTHING MORE not to spoiler. I LOVED IT. Also at how genuine Miro's reaction was to everything that happened before-during-after. Years and years from now if ever I don't think Miro would be able to explain their relationship. It's a true clasterfuck .
I was surprised when even though all was said and done we got a real emergency concerning Miro's close friends. I won't say what it was about though I will say the writing was on the wall. I can't say I always got the whole interaction between the 5 close friends and half the time I couldn't remember who was who, what they do or where they live. But what IS important is they ARE a family who works wonderfully together especially when one is in need. Miro might have started his life orphaned, and unwanted but now in his 30s he is finally at the best place he could be, surrounded by his close friends, from his college as well as the Marshals' office, he has a loving husband and a job he can't wait to get up in the morning to do.
Wish we got more adventure of the two, but in a way I'm also happy we won't because these two deserve a quiet HEA.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. But you need to start at the beginning...

I really enjoyed this one. I thought Mary did a great job of finishing off Miro and Ian’s arc as this was the best book by far for me.
I liked the fact that both Miro and Ian while having different opinions on circumstances both took the time after going back and forth to see the situation from the others perspective. Ian at times still annoyed me, but only because his objections while coming from a good place still kind of felt a bit selfish, like he just though that Miro would follow him wherever he went.
Sam Kage - I love seeing him through the eyes of his Marshall’s. the man is diabolical and always five steps ahead of everyone else, thankfully he is on the side of the good. He knows his guys and he puts them in situations that allow them to really shine. I did get confused with who and what when they all got new jobs, it I’ll work it out in the next book.
I liked the resolution of the Craig Hartley storyline. He’s been Miro’s boogie man throughout the series and could have been a one dimensional character but their relationship had many different facets and I thought the aftermath and Miro’s reactions were well portrayed.
I enjoy all the cameos from the characters from different series and I enjoy seeing how they all interconnect. The cameo at the end really made sense to me.
The only part that didn’t really make sense to me was the part with Janet and Cody. I understand that it showed everyone in Miro’s family all working together for the common goal, but I feel like that was already shown at the wedding and while it also gave the girls a chance to see Ian in a better light, I didn’t really think this was needed and it could have been shown in another way.
Looking forward to seeing things from Eli’s perspective in the next book
- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2025I'm totally addicted to the MCs and supporting characters. The drama, twists, and turns as well as shenanigans kept me on the edge of my seat. I don't know why, but I wanted Craig Hartley to ride off into the sunset vs his ending even though it was a heroic moment for him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still not enough
You know you've enjoyed a series when you're counting down the pages with dread knowing that you have to leave this family behind when you finish the book. I could happily read more about this setup and I'm so sad to be done. Over this four book series you really are able to picture their lives and the people surrounding them. There was drama, romance, laughs, kids and animals, some truly horrible scenes which perhaps need a warning about, lots of sexy time but overall just a great story. The only negative for me is how abruptly the author ends her books, each time leaving me turning the page thinking there must surely be more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Recomendo!!!
A historia é emocionante, faz você querer ler todos os livros um atras do outro (foi o que eu fiz), porque você quer realmente saber o que vai acontecer, qual vai ser o drama e as dificuldades pelo qual os personagens vão passar. Gostei dessa série.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended....A sky full of Gold Stars.
Can I just start by saying sometimes people are put on this earth to make all the bad stuff fade into background noise. Mary Calmes and her talent at writing fiction falls into that category. A wickedly smart author who shares the love around by giving us such wonderfully amazing complex stories to read, so that we might switch off our brains for a period of time and fall headlong into her beautifully created worlds for a full on amazing ride filled with action, danger and smoking hot love.
*SIGH* .....That right there is a big, big sigh.
A enormous sigh of pleasure, sadness, peace, admiration, all for Miro Jones and Ian Doyle and of course for Mary Calmes and her divine Marshals series. I'm allowing myself to wallow in the afterglow that is Ian and Miro, Kage, Eli, Becker and the rest of their crew, the girls and the boys and even Hartley.
Twisted and Tied was simply fabulous reading.
It pinged my IPad at 12:30am last night and I sat up all night reading it, I didn't want to miss a moment of experiencing Miro unfold this latest installment of his and Ian's life. And let me tell you, *whoa* it was everything I've come to expect from a Mary Calmes book. A lotta pages that I wanted to morph into a box of Tim Tams, because yeah... who out there doesn't want a never ending box of Tim Tams.
Like all the books previous, Twisted and Tied was filled with witty humor, real laugh out loud moments that had me nearly spewing my coffee all over my reader, fast paced action, even nail biting anxiety when badness reared its ugly head ...AGAIN...Poor Miro. Because Calmes is intimately knowledgeable about all things Jones and Doyle, Twisted and Tied had typical argumentative angst between our boys as they navigated their new marriage, tested boundaries, and commitment. It also had a truckload of love and dedication, protectiveness and happy feels, and smoking hot chemistry and seriously blistering hot sexy times, and sad too, because clearly Ian and Miro have come to a stage where they're at their happy place and new guys from the Marshals will likely be stepping up to the plate.
In truth right now, I'm both happy and sad that I've read and finished Twisted and Tied, because this series was just so damn good. Like seriously, seriously good. So much love between all those pages and it showed from first sentence to the last full-stop. It's going to hurt not to be able to read the latest sheer magic that is Miro and Ian living, loving and working together and while there may be another book, and I guess we'll have to wait to find out, its quite possible that Redeker and Callahan, seem the next guys most likely to fall under Mary Calmes' s pen. One can only hope, because I have a feeling their story is going to be just as good.
Thankfully, like any good fan of Mary Calmes, I own the books, and can reread them over and over and over. Keepers are like that aren't they? And there was never any doubt at all that this Marshals series was anything but a fabulous keeper of a series.
I don't wanna give the plot away, if your buying this book, you've likely read the other four ( yep four because don't forget Tied Together a Valentine short filled with humor, wit and danger, and a little nonsense that sees some loose ends getting clarified) so your no stranger to the heady world of Miro Jones and Ian Doyle.
Can I just Highly Recommend this book? I can absolutely categorically state even if it had been $50 or more to buy, I would have paid that and more and walked away after reading it, thinking I'd spent my money wisely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twisted and Tied will hold you from start to finish
Another wonderful, action-packed, heart-warming and witty offering from Mary Calmes. I love all her books, and the Marshals Series is no exception. "Twisted and Tied" picks up Miro and Ian's story a few months after the events of the last book. We get to see the continued evolution of their relationship with each other and their coworkers, as well as changes at work that effect their whole team. This series is known for its action-packed story lines and the author takes you on another wild ride with this entry. In fact, this story is SO action-packed it almost seems implausible - especially when you consider all the events take place in less than a week. I say almost implausible because you won't care about that. Thanks to great storytelling, witty and heartfelt dialogue, and just really loveable characters, you willingly suspend your disbelief and just go along for the journey. It's also fun to see appearances by characters from other stories and have other events referenced. A treat for fans like me who read all her books, but won't detract from the story for those who don't. But seriously? You should be reading all her books.
