Purchase options and add-ons
A UN worker intent on revolution, a serial killer bent on revenge, and, between the two, an increasingly disillusioned Met detective. All have their own ideas of what justice should look like – even if DC Brook Deelman was only hoping for a quiet pint when events intervened.
Now, three people with very different goals are on a collision course in London. A situation that will hit closer to home than anything Brook has ever known.
When the stakes are high enough, people will go to great lengths to see their version of justice triumph.

About the author

Originally from Birmingham, Ed Church studied languages at Edinburgh University before training as a journalist and writing for the Press Association’s International Sport desk. In 2005 he joined the Metropolitan Police, going on to serve ten years in London as both a uniformed officer and detective.
After leaving the police, Ed began writing during tea breaks while renovating houses, soon discovering he preferred writing to renovating. When he swapped dry land for life on a narrowboat, the notebooks came with him, eventually becoming his debut novel, “Non-Suspicious”.
The Brook Deelman series is characterised by dual timelines, multiple POVs, and themes such as deception, justice, and fate.
There is also a lot of beer.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2023As many of the 'best selling' authors have gone to seed (Connelly, Silva, the latest 'Girl Who' author) along comes Ed Church. A story that flows and pulls you in, believable, no typo or grammar distractions, no unnecessary blather. Well done.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2022I have flown through this whole series in less than 2 weeks...and now I'm left with an emptiness only Brook can fill! I am excited to see where his personal life leads ( rooting for Sam♥️), and also if he and Jonboy do the whole PI thing🥰
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2021Great series so far. I'll definitely continue with the series and am following the author. I'm looking forward to more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Mystery at Its Best!
Unauthorised: A Detective Brook Deelman Mystery is an absolute page-turner! From the very first chapter, I was hooked, and it didn't let go until the very end.
Detective Brook Deelman is a character you can't help but root for. She's tenacious, smart, and relatable, which makes following her on this twisted journey all the more engaging. The author has a remarkable ability to bring the characters to life, making them feel like old friends (or foes).
The plot is a rollercoaster of suspense, full of unexpected twists and turns that kept me guessing until the final reveal. I thought I had it all figured out, but the story had other plans! It's a testament to the author's skill that they can craft such a complex and compelling narrative.
The pacing is spot-on, with just the right balance of action and character development. Plus, the writing style is smooth and easy to follow, making it a breeze to immerse yourself in this gripping world.
If you're a fan of detective mysteries and thrillers, Unauthorised: A Detective Brook Deelman Mystery is a must-read. I couldn't put it down, and I can't wait for the next installment in this series. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best one yet
I sat down to read this in the morning and became so absorbed in it that (comfort breaks and pet feeding responsibilities aside) I ignored everyone and everything until I'd finished it at the end of the day. It's clever, pacey, gripping and very entertaining. It has exactly the right amount and variety of swearing you'd expect from overworked and underappreciated murder detectives, a scattering of gruesome murders, beautifully choreographed action scenes, intriguing back stories and a perfectly timed comedic flourish.
Buy this book. Feed your cat / dog / child/ significant other. Bar the door. Surround yourself with snacks. Switch off your phone, open the book and you too may find that 10 hours have whizzed by when you next look up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging, convincing and addictive.
I'm a newcomer to the writing of Ed Church and I have to say I'm very impressed. The Brook Deelman series offer an original take on modern day UK police procedurals, with engaging storylines delivered by characters who are credible and well-written.
As an ex-Met Police detective Ed Church not only knows whereof he speaks, he writes in a way that captivated this reader and made me hungry to read the complete series - all of which are crying out to be adapted to TV.
Very, VERY highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another gem in the Deelman series
Brilliantly written, fast paced and intricate; a world you are completely absorbed in from the first to last page. Keep them coming! I agree with travelling man- these would be amazing adapted for tv- get a screenwriter involved and get submitting!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Brook Deelman cycle develops in exciting fashion
The third in Ed Church's saga of the maverick Met detective is the best as he is seconded to a homicide investigation into a serial murderer of policemen. He's viewed with disdain at first - the acerbic DCI calls him the Man from Delmonte - but as he brings his unique skills to bear on the case, he proves himself far more perceptive than his supposed superiors - with the exception of DS Sam(antha) Becker, whose nascent relationship with Brook brings an extra dimension to the story. The plot is imaginative and clever, taking its theme from the novella "Look Down" which Church wrote featuring Brook's friend Jonboy in the Balkan conflicts. "Unauthorised" heads at breakneck pace towards a gripping showdown at Wembley Stadium. I really enjoyed reading this latest Brook Deelman book and couldn't put it down as the tense denouement unfolded.
