I am in love with this book!
I am in love with this book! I laughed so hard at times that I cried, snorted and all the sorts of things that get you stared at when reading in public. As an 80’s baby, I grew up watching all the movies and listening to all the cheesy music that was referenced in this book which not only made it nostalgic, but made it feel like I was hanging out with old friends. As with all of Lauren Blakley’s books they are smart, funny, punchy and saucy. Unzipped by far is one of my favourites, although I say that about all of her books. I loved it so much I also got it on Audible which really brought it to life after reading the book and I highly recommend. The narrators do an amazing job and at only 6 hours long it is easy listening! If you have never read any of Lauren Blakely’s books before then you need to…stat, and this may be the perfect one to start you off.

    I am an enormous Lauren Blakely fan, and when I read the synopsis for this book, my interest was instantly sparked. I’m a lover of all things romance, especially romantic comedies, whether they be in book form or on film. I love everything about them from the meet-cutes to the sweet and sometimes cheesy way the couples fall in love to the over-the-top grand gestures and everything in between. So when I realized this book kicks off with a play on what is probably the grandest of the grand gestures on film – the Dobler/boombox scene from Say Anything – I was sold.

    Blakely gives readers a hot nerd hero in roller coaster designer, Kyler. He was so endearing, so adorable in his cluelessness—I adored him instantly. His mangled attempt at the Dobler-inspired boombox moment was a hot, hot mess, but he owned it and stole my heart in the process. Finley, the girl next door to the girl of Kyler’s dreams, is a comedy writer of her own TV show on the verge of being cancelled. She is in desperate need of inspiration when the poorly singing, bumbling Kyler is dropped right on her lawn. After hearing his plan win his former girlfriend’s heart back, she knows she needs to help this guy.

    Finley and Kyler were both so quirky and very different, but I think that’s what drew them to each other. They naturally challenged each other, and I think that was what initially drew them to each other and sparked the attraction between them. Their flirty banter was quick and hilarious, and despite their differences, this couple had fantastic chemistry. Finley wasn’t exactly keen to take another spin on the “I’m still in love with my ex” rollercoaster ride that is written all over Kyler, but she does want the inspiration he’s giving her—as long as it doesn’t inspire anything other than plot ideas. It doesn’t take Kyler long to realize that he’s chasing the wrong girl, though, and he flips his focus on Finley. I loved all of his movie-quoting, and his whole sweet and seductive routine was utterly swoon-worthy.

    Unzipped by Lauren Blakely was lighthearted, sexy and amusing, and it was exactly what I was looking to read when I started it. With Blakely’s clever writing and a wholly entertaining storyline, Unzipped was a witty, fun and charming romance that kept me smiling the whole way through. Five smooches from me!

    First, I have to say that I LOVE Lauren Blakely's books!!! They never disappoint!!
    Now, in Unzipped she has given me what I absolutely love the most - the hot nerd with glasses who is clueless about women!!!! Her hero, Kyler, aka Tom, is so amazing and he doesn't even know it!! He loves the 80's, everything about them. The music, but especially the movies!! He thinks everything he needs to know about winning a woman's heart can be learned from an 80's rom-com! Yeah, he needs a little help. He gets that help when he thinks he's doing a Lloyd Dobbler on his ex-college girlfriend, but he's actually giving it to Finley!
    Finley is a comedy writer who is kinda struggling at the moment due to lack of good inspiration. Well, needless to say, once she meets Kyler, he becomes her inspiration! She sets out to help him win his ex back, but he also gets her creative juices flowing with his story.
    These 2 together are absolute gold!!! The kinda serious clueless nerd and the quirky, spontaneous comedy writer. You just can't get any better then that!!! Now, I've always said that Nick and Harper, from Mister O, are my favorite Lauren Blakely couple - which they are but Finley and Tom are probably a very close 2nd to them!! I just loved how they just fit so seamlessly into each others lives, like they had known each other forever! They were truly meant to be together and they actually realized it at the same time!

    Tom (aka Kyler), has grown up since his college days when the love of his life broke up with him. Now that he is a successful business man, he decides to make the grand gesture, to get the girl back. Off he goes to her home, carrying a boom box to play her favorite song outside her bedroom window. Classic right! The problem with this is, first of all the boom box malfunctions, so he ends up singing the song. Then the wrong girl appears at the window. Come to find out his ex doesn’t live there anymore. The good news is that Finley, the girl at the window, offers to help him to make the grand gesture.
    Finley is a writer for a comedy show, that may soon be on the chopping block. When this crazy guy shows up with a boom box outside her window, Finley runs outside to meet him. All she’s thinking is that this could be an angle to her show. When Tom tells her the reason for the boom box, Finley offers to give him love advice. However, as they get to know each other, feelings start to grow. Can two people that have so much in common, realize that what they have in front of them, is worth fighting for.

    ‘Unzipped’ by Lauren Blakely pulled me in right from the prologue. I adore her writing and personally have a fondness for 80's movies and pop culture so this book was right up my alley. It's fun, quirky, and full of romantic tropes.

    We have the clueless, oblivious, adorably sexy nerd trying to win his ex-girlfriend back with big gesture (think John Cusack Stereo over his head) - except he’s missing one tiny factor: the right girl. Instead he get’s his ex-girlfriends neighbour who decides that our hero needs some help if he wants to win the girl. She’s not completely altruistic she get’s fantastic new material for her comedy show that’s in danger of being cancelled.

    As another reviewer rightly noted these two are my favourite type of romantic couple - ‘adorkable’! Hanging with them is fun. They are quirky and adventurous, & their humour and banter made me laugh more than once. I enjoyed the tropes and plot ideas and how they were integrated into a new unexpected rom com. I adored it.
