The Vampire's Raven: A Paranormal Novelette (Seattle Paranormal Shenanigans) Kindle Edition
When his lover goes missing, Adrian engages the help of his necromancer friend in order to get her back. But the way won't be easy, and it may prove too much even for an elder vampire like himself. It doesn't matter though. He will save Lenore no matter the price, even at the cost of his very soul. And neither the warlock, the demon lord, nor the army of the damned will stop him.
This story is inspired by Edgar Allen Poe's poem, 'The Raven'.

About the author

C. Gold is an avid World of Warcraft gamer and book reader. She enjoys multiple genres, but her favorites are fantasy, science fiction, urban fantasy, paranormal, and romance.
After retiring from a career of torturing software (perks of a software tester), she could no longer hold back the flow of ideas demanding to be written. This also let her unleash new torments on unsuspecting characters, though they got even by doing things not in her outlines!
She favors writing about the broken, the unusual, and the shades of grey between right and wrong. Her worlds are influenced by her background in electrical engineering, physics, and computer science as well as her love of authors like Barbara Hambly, Janny Wurts, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2018Take the motifs of Poe's famous poem, apply them to the modern vampire tropes, mix aspects of shamanism with thaumaturgy and add a dash of Norse mythology -- out of this eclectic mix, Gold creates a fast-paced and exciting story that's quite fun to read. Instead of a wimpy protagonist spending a bleak December birdwatching and pining for the lost Lenore, we have a passionate, full-blooded vampire more than ready to rumble in the netherworld to regain his love, aided in his quest by his crafty and engaging totemic raven. Woe to the demon who gets between the vampire and his love.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2018Quite an excellent short story. I wasn't expecting this story to be so good, it's usually hard (in my opinion) to make a short story really good. This started right off, in turmoil. The Author did a great job drawing me into the story, then keeping my attention throughout. The characters were also interesting and likable. The Author said at the end of the book that she definitely will be continuing the story. I'm not sure if she has yet or not, but I sure as heck am going to go look.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2020Good short story about a vampire, along with his spirit guide, Poe, the raven, going to Hel to rescue his true love, Lenore. Full of magic and demons and amulets and portals and more, all in a story only 40+ pages long! Good job!
I received this e-book, free, from a monthly promotion and am leaving this review voluntarily.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2019I thought that the beginning of this story, the characterisation and action was simply brilliant, but - as the story unfolded - I became very disenchanted. I had a very clear picture in my mind of a strong, kick-ass hero (Adrian Ravencourt), but he began to disintegrate and the promise of the first dozen or so pages came to nothing. The story, too, could have delivered so much more, but struggled to a final whimper.
I think, if the authorhad remained true to the character and was braver with the story (fleshing it out and maintaining Adrian as almost invincible) it would have received a maximum 5 stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2018I enjoyed the story. I found it well written and fast moving. Excellent use of Poe's classic work. Fun read.
