Virgil Kindle Edition
If you are reading this, then it is already too late. You’ve been drawn in... to a world filled with things you can’t escape. Darkness, evil, treachery and betrayals of the worst kind lay within these pages. I’d tell you to put the book down, run while you are still safe, your mind unscathed, your world unshattered... but it would be futile. You want to know what happens—the depths of depravity and destruction which one man's world could hold.
Just what, exactly, happened to him?
I know you want to find out. If I were you the intrigue would suck me in too, but know this: There is no turning back. Once the shadows inside these pages consume you—well, even I dare not say... If there is even one ounce of willpower in you, consider for a second not taking this journey; don’t swim in the black cave that is my mind—don’t… I’m wasting my time. Now, I know you feel you must enter. It would be a crime not to. But if you do, remember I did warn you—but you didn’t listen.
TRIGGER WARNING This book contains themes of mental and sexual abuse, psychological abuse, and possibly other triggering topics. It is intended for adult audiences. If these things make you uncomfortable or will cause you trauma in any way this story is not safe for you.

About the author

Samuel Alexander is just your regular guy trying to write the stories he enjoys to read. He lives on the Island of Bermuda, sharing space with the voices in his head. Cheesecake is his one true love, and fries. He firmly believes that chocolate makes everything better, coffee is the elixir of life and a good book is the source of pure happiness.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2023Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis story is not my typical read but it was still very good. This piece has dark, intense , and brutal elements but he tells Virgil's story with as much dignity and as candidly as such a horrible story can be told. I appreciate how the story seemed to bring awareness . I appreciate that there was not an underlying glorification or fetishization of this horrific actions. There is almost a therapeutic element to it for me bc while I never experienced that type of horror I still identified with certain aspects of the characters live. Well written , 5 stars , keep doing you !
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was pretty intense. Be aware that this book contains many, and I mean many, descriptions and mentions of abuse, both mentally and sexually, trauma, various vile acts and then some more. It is a good read, but a tough one. I had to take pauses just to take my mind off it because the intensity the author writes and relentless traumatizing images just begged for a breather. I can't exactly say that I enjoyed the book, that maybe isn't the right word, but I definitely appreciate it and see what the author was going for. And I can recommend it too, it is really good but really dark and intense. Very interesting experience, give it a go.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIt is a terrifying, horrid dark story that, unfortunately, is more common than we would like to believe. Virgil is a story about abuse -mental and physical. It is the story about deceit and how church-goers or people who seem normal, even kind and successful, can cover the most sinister personalities and despicable deeds. Not a book to pass the time or have a good time, Virgil will leave you nauseous and astonished about the levels of evil a human being can reach. Superb writing, although hard to read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI have to preface this review by saying I’ve never read something this intense before. The author paints a picture of control and depravity that tests the limits of how much trauma a person can imagine.
The characters are well written, sympathetic, and complex. There is love, humor, joy, hate, abuse, and redemption. It’s a fantastical slice of life if all the rules were distorted and a little bit of hell leaked through.
I both love and hate this novel and it will have space in my head for a long time to come.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2021Format: KindleThis is a complex story that covers disturbing incidents of sexual abuses, including incest and child abuse, the wrongful use of religion for nefarious purposes, suicide and other mental health issues. The many characters are strong, having their place in the telling of this story, and the narrator keeps you tied in.
The difficulties I had included: at times losing track of who was speaking; the plan that was finally decided upon to end the abuse could have been executed years prior, and there was no reason given as to why they did not do so earlier; not a sufficient enough reason why the adult men were viewed only as victims.
Even given the above difficulties, the story brings out in the open many devastating traumas people can go through in life... No one can ever really know what difficulties people have lived through, no matter how "together" they may seem to the public. There is always something still to overcome and heal from.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseVirgil by Samuel Alexander is a psychological thriller fiction book. I first want to comment on the writing, which I thought was amazing. For just a “regular guy,” the writing is grammatically correct, has great tone, cohesiveness, coherence, syntax is appropriate. And the author writes in such a way that is basically the reader getting directly into the mind of the character. I really felt the pauses, the way the character was feeling. Great connection. Further, although this is a single, on-its-own book, I would love to read a sequel! Or more from this author in general. The characters’ thoughts, feelings, personality, etc. jump out in the narrative of the story. Truly an intriguing thriller beyond the usual thrill of a book.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI received this book to do a review and here is my honest opinion. This is not my kind of read, but while it was well written, it was too harsh for my taste.
Author Samuel Alexander Virgil tells the story of different types of abuse that most of the characters have been through in their life. With their strong will to survive, they were able to rise above these abuses and live normal lives. Mr. Alexander was right when he said the book was not for a weak mind.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe first thing I noticed about this book was the trigger warning. I've learned that a lot of times authors put that warning there to grab attention to the book. Not in this case, though. Samuel Alexander's book, Virgil, is an intriguing, gripping read from start to finish, but it was full of trauma, including incest and child abuse.
As an adult, Virgil has to find a way to come to terms with all of the horrors that happened to him. But when faith has been a weapon in his life to be wielded against him, what else can get a person through such traumatic events?
Virgil continues to push through, even as more horrors unfold. It's a story of strength over evil, but it's not an easy path to walk.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not at all what I expected!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book was not at all what I expected. It explored some dark subjects and was at times chilling to read - but in the very best way. This book is thought provoking, intense and leaves one hell of an impression. I would recommend it to anyone.
