The crew of the vengeance has one mission, test a prototype weapon to see if it’s viable against their hated enemy, a hive mind known as the Xathi. But the test goes wrong, sending the vengeance and part of a Xathi ship through a tear in space To a death world that has been colonized by the humans.

Their Vrehx, one of the commanders of the vengeance, runs into Jeneva a human just trying to survive on a world where the trees hunt you and the spiders are pissed off. Their worlds collide, literally, as do their hearts, metaphorically.

I can definitely get behind this series that follows essentially a stranded ship of soldiers onto a planet that the humans have colonized where they’re fighting against another alien race who is bent on destruction and death. The characters are fairly interesting. The aliens are alien enough for the xenophiles but not so alien that they become too weird.

The over arcing plot is very sci-fi. Much in the vein of starship troopers meets Anne McCaffrey’s spacefaring series specifically the Rowan and Damia. It’s pretty clear that the rest of the series is going to be matching up the crew members of the vengeance with various human females while battling the Xathi.

The one thing I didn’t love was that in the beginning especially when there were too many earth idioms used by Vrehx and his crew. So I’m dropping it a half a star for that.

Ultimately this was fairly fun and a good start to the series.

Vrehx and his crew of warriors from a mixture of races, have all been victims of the Xathi, a hive minded, bug-like race of aliens. Each of the crew saw his world destroyed, and are now part of a mission on board the ship Vengeance, to deploy a new weapon.

Only, the weapon creates a huge rift in space, sending the Xathi, and the Vengeance, crashing onto a human colonized planet.

Vrehx and the others on the Vengeance are determined to eliminate the Xathi threat they accidentally released.

Jenever is a human who makes her living collecting things from the woods, when she runs into Vrehx and the others.
She’s the first person on the planet to speak with them, and learn to trust them. And with her help, they might just be able to stop the Xathi...

This is the first in a series of books featuring the crew of the Vengeance, and their enemy, the Xathi.
We are dropped into the middle of an ongoing war, and it appears to be an almost hopeless cause.
They’ve not mapped this part of the galaxy, and as far as I can tell, they haven’t run across humans before, either, so there is little chance that they will be able to leave easily.
The romance in the book is actually only a small part of the story. Although the two main characters get a ‘happily for now’, there was no real conclusion for them, because the overarching background plot is a huge part of the story.
That means, this book is best read as part of the series, and if not binge-reading, at least read together on a continuous streak!

Recommended primarily for sci-fi fans, and sci-fi romance fans.

I had hoped it would be good but I have to say Janeeva irritated the mess out if me yeah I get it she's a sassy heroine that don't take no crap from anyone but she would get ticked at Vhrex for no good reason! Like she was super ticked when she found out they were the cause of the rift bringing the bad aliens to her world but good Lord after hearing his explanation it should have been obvious it was an accident and she calls him really nasty names starts doubting if he's trustworthy and I'm like really this is ridiculous so to say the least it was a good story but the heroine killed it for me

Vrehx and his spaceship full of mismatch alien Warriors bent on vengeance for their shattered people on their planets. They are at war with an insect like hive called Xathi. They were trying out a new experimental weapon which created the real and their spaceship and Xathi landed on this unknown planet. They don't know which is worse the Xathi or the flora or fauna on this planet.

Fortunately, Jeneva is a hunter flora and fauna's poisons and extracts that are valuable to humans. She encountered the aliens who are the good guys along with some other humans she trying to get back to her City. They encountered the Xathi. They're all at war with the flora, fauna, and the
Xathi. Will Vrehx and Jeneva survive in this hostile planet?

The characters are unique, intriguing, and exotic to make this world truly unique to the reader. It is fast paced, edge of your seat drama that keep the reader interested and wanting more. I certainly did.

    Highly recommended.

Wow! Just, WOW! The action and excitement in this book is non stop. It starts with a battle in space. The new prototype weapon the Skotan and their allies use against the Xathi, (a very large bug like hive race), causes a rift in space that both ships fall through. Both ships crash land. Half theXathi ship is but that barely even slows them down. They still plan to devastate this planet, using the humans for slaves and food. The vegetation on this planet is dangerous, very dangerous. Not only can it kill with poisons, its sentient! And the trees can also move. It’s not a planet you’d want to be stranded on. Obviously the humans don’t trust any allies after seeing what the Xathi has done to them. Can the allies and humans reach some sort of understanding? And if they do, is it possible stop the Xathi? Nothing has worked against them so far. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Here is a little sample of what to look forward to in this book.
Idiot woman had no armor of her own. Bad design, these humans. Just soft flesh, curves, smooth thighs, supple breasts… I was forced to shake my head and breathe. Oh, how I hated that woman. She made my mind wander, out of control.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting world, not so great characters

The world was a nice idea, plants that eat you and different planets. There are also different species of human-like creatures, all very cool. But the main character was annoying and so well thought out.

I loved the badass heroine who could hold her own. A story just long enough to hold my interest yet long enough to fill in all the blanks. Can't wait to read the rest of the series!
