Like the imagination used to write this story.

This is a whimsical romp of a story with a bit of spooky overtone. Kayla is whisked away by magic one day to a holding place for ghosts with unfinished business called Wayward Station. (the big U.B.) She finds herself with her Grams and in front of the Wayward Council charged with retrieving a precious commodity from one notorious thief, Jacoby Marone. (I won't spoil what the precious commodity is, but this is part of the whimsicality).

The basic grammar/sentence level constructions issues really held back my enjoyment of this story. It's a quick, fun read, but I found myself noticing those errors or re-reading sentences to figure out what happened too many times. With a little more polish/editing this story would improve and be good for middle-grade readers who like a touch of spookiness.

K.A. Meng's imagination is her best quality, and this ghost story has an interesting premise. There are many passages that will bring a smile to the reader, too. It is a fast read and I wish there was a bit more to it, but it's a good start to what I am thinking will be an entertaining series.
