About the authors
James Dixon has been watching wrestling for over 20 years. Inspired by the likes of Davey Boy Smith, Bret Hart, The Ultimate Warrior and The Undertaker, Dixon was drawn to the business like any other fan; for reasons that are difficult to explain.
A hobby quickly became an obsession, and Dixon was determined to get involved in wrestling by utilising the one thing he could do: write about it. In previous books James wrote alongside his “writing partner” Evil Ste. The truth is, the Evil Ste character was merely an extension of Dixon’s own personality, his way of sharing his Jekyll and Hyde opinions on things. The writing choice worked fairly well at first, but the team at History of Wrestling all felt it had perhaps become more gimmicky that was hoped, so Dixon has reverted to just writing as himself.
Well, we say himself. In reality James is a former British professional wrestler, but he has adopted the pseudonym to retain relative anonymity and to distance himself from his past career in the industry. However, that past experience does give him a unique and more inside perspective on things than the others, though he is still a “mark” at heart.
James has limited patience and borderline apathy for anything in wrestling post-2002, and much prefers 80s and 90s grappling. Curious really, because as you will see from his writing, he spends a lot of time complaining about it.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2015I love all these books. So much so I bought all of them in paperback. I love the humour and the insight. These books are not play by play calls on the action... They're a critical look at the angle, psychology and effort put into the match within context.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Walk Down Memory Lane
If you watched WWF from this time, this may bring back warm memories. The writers take you through all the video releases that the company put out in this period. I enjoy the insight about what was going on behind the scenes, where the 'new' wrestlers came from. One warning, if a writer did not like a wrestler, or his style the you get a constant repition of those opinions. It is their opinion though. You can also skip repeated reviews of matches that appear numerous times on different tapes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth your time
I've reread all the review books over and over and never get bored. This was an interesting time for the WWE and the authors perfectly captured the time with witty remarks mixed with their wrestling knowledge. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Volume 3 is up to the amazingly high standard of 1 and 2
I cannot praise this series and these authors enough. The volumes are more than the video guide they profess to be - they in fact provide a near chronological walk through WWF / WWE history via PPVs, video events and so on. With each match and event reviewed in detail, with an honest look without any any rose tinted glasses and some killer humour. My only criticism is that there is such a gap between release dates!
Cannot wait for the next volume - hours and hours of enjoyment reading these volumes. Well done guys.

4.0 out of 5 stars A trip down memory lane
Very informative, I enjoyed going down memory lane,I actually first started watching wrestling as a kid during this era. Although this wasn't the most popular time in wrestling, it set the tone for what was known later as the attitude era.

4.0 out of 5 stars What you see is what you get.....
Having read a few of these books the standard is always very high with well written and insightful reviews given to a years worth of WWF videos.
Volume three covers the WWF during the years 1993-1996 as the new generation featuring the likes of Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and Diesel replace the old guard many of whom have jumped ship to the big spending competition WCW.
As said before the standard of these books is very, very high and they make for good value. One slight complaint would be they do tend to be slightly on the negative however to be fair to the guys I don't have to watch some of the dross they review so fair play to them.
