James Dixon has been watching wrestling for over 20 years. Inspired by the likes of Davey Boy Smith, Bret Hart, The Ultimate Warrior and The Undertaker, Dixon was drawn to the business like any other fan; for reasons that are difficult to explain.
A hobby quickly became an obsession, and Dixon was determined to get involved in wrestling by utilising the one thing he could do: write about it. In previous books James wrote alongside his “writing partner” Evil Ste. The truth is, the Evil Ste character was merely an extension of Dixon’s own personality, his way of sharing his Jekyll and Hyde opinions on things. The writing choice worked fairly well at first, but the team at History of Wrestling all felt it had perhaps become more gimmicky that was hoped, so Dixon has reverted to just writing as himself.
Well, we say himself. In reality James is a former British professional wrestler, but he has adopted the pseudonym to retain relative anonymity and to distance himself from his past career in the industry. However, that past experience does give him a unique and more inside perspective on things than the others, though he is still a “mark” at heart.
James has limited patience and borderline apathy for anything in wrestling post-2002, and much prefers 80s and 90s grappling. Curious really, because as you will see from his writing, he spends a lot of time complaining about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars wrestling book for wrestling fans
Great read but My only gripe is reading the exact same match for different tapes , when a simple ‘read review on page ???’ Would have sufficed .

5.0 out of 5 stars Volume 5 - Another Classic
Volume 5 of this series and another classic encyclopaedic history look at WWE without the rose tinted glasses of the official publications, a healthy dose of realism and lot of spot on humour.
The next volume is the one a lot of us are waiting for, as many of 'my' generation skipped the Attitude era and didn't get back into WWE until 2002, which is where this volume finishes, however as someone who was bored of the Attitude era concentrating on the McMahon family at the expense of all else, this book was a great catch up, and I imagine fans of this era will be even more delighted.
My only complaint is that this series doesn't come out often enough - we're still waiting the third 'wrestler' volume after Ultimate Warrior and Hart Foundation, and the next volume of the Raw Series.
Continued fantastic work and I always buy the hard copy as well as Kindle editions .:)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Fun Trip Down Memory Lane
Once again these guys have managed to write a wonderfully entertaining, opinionated and informative book reviewing a period of time in WWE history. As usual they work their way through tape after tape, sticking to the catalogue order, and provide a wonderful reference point and review of each tape they are given.
This book specifically deals with the years 1999 – 2002 or as these guys label it 'the death of the WWF'. Everything from the Austin heel turn, the failed invasion angle and the last tape/PPV released under the old WWF name is covered and explained.
Once again the writing style and fun laid back approach has created a book that i finished in just two sittings. Highly recommended to all Wrestling fans however same as last time make sure you have YouTube close by whilst reading as the temptation to look some of the matches and angles described up is often very high.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait for Number 6
Have been devouring each of these volumes as they come out. An impressively comprehensive and well written review of every possible release from the WWF during the era in question. An invaluable reference. Both this and the other four volumes in the series are highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome
These guys books just keep getting better and better. Reliving the time period on offer was an absolute treat. The authors have a fine mix of knowledge and humour and this hefty tome absolutely flies past. Sorry it's finished, can't wait for volume 6 !
