3.6 out of 5 stars 6 ratings

The perfect summer holiday read! Perfect for fans of Dilly Court, Maeve Binchy, Jojo Moyes and Barbara Pym.

Ann Thrail has sworn off men, but will a holiday in paradise change her mind…?

1960, Madeira

Kate and Edmund Amroth left London to create a paradise of the Portuguese island of Madeira. They are well known in the local English circles and are proud of what they have achieved.

So when their wayward niece, Ann Thrail, writes to say she is coming to stay, the Amroths are less than enthusiastic…

Ann is leaving behind a scandal in London which has smeared her reputation.

And Kate is worried about the impression that Ann might have on her son, John.

But was there more to Ann's disastrous love affair than was reported in the Press? Can she charm the Amroths despite themselves?

Or will she continue to cause chaos wherever she goes…

The Wayward Wind is a fun and flirty historical summer romance set in the 1960s!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Old Fashioned Romance

I'm unsure what year this story was set in as it did not contain any reference to dates. Personally I assumed it was the 1950s/60s as it came across as a very innocent time by today's standards. The story is set in Madeira and the author described it so vividly that I could almost picture the scenery in my mind. I have never been to Madeira nor have I ever read any stories which were set in it. Ann goes to Madeira to stay with her aunt and uncle for a break after experiencing some stressful events in her life. Men are captivated by her beauty and compete for her attention. The continuous emphasis on her appearance came across as being a bit shallow at times. However, the story has an old fashioned romantic feel throughout and dates back to a time when life was much more simple and straightforward. I always enjoy a happy ending.
