We Were Never Alone Kindle Edition
A man suffers a heart attack. Another can’t escape his captivity. A third tries to cope with the absence of his wife.
DS Daniel Newton has come home to join the newly formed Stockham Serious Crime Unit and immediately catches the cases of three missing men, including the son of a prominent local councillor. Stockham is also a refuge for Miri Holden, an escapee from London and her controlling father to freedom in the north.
But as a glorious summer slips into autumn, it isn’t just the leaves that are dying. Two bodies turn a missing-persons case into murder and Miri finds that demons lurk in every part of the country.
An intricate, intelligent read which questions whether we ever are truly alone.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2018If you are a fan of crime or suspense thrillers than you will love, We Were Never Alone. Annie Dyer weaves a wonderfully suspenseful, complex thrill ride, that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters are well developed and robust and the attention to every detail is pure gritty perfection. The setting added to the layers and nuance of this read and the visual descriptions vivid. There is a large cast of characters and I was invested in each of their stories. Smart writing, combined with the fact that Annie is a true wordsmith, kept me hooked until the very last page.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2018I was really excited to read this one. I love a good crime read. However, I initially struggled getting into this, and at times, I found it a little confusing. I liked how there were multiple storylines, but there were times it was hard to keep up with all the different characters, especially as more and more people kept being introduced.
While it was an enjoyable read, I didn’t feel it had that “hook” that entirely drew me into the story. I also feel there were still some unanswered questions at the end.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2018If crime/suspense/thriller novels are your passion, this UK police procedural, suspense novel by new to this genre Annie Dyer, We Were Never Alone will meet every expectation. Seriously!
Deliciously built suspense, well-written fleshed out characters, gorgeous scene descriptions that bring the panorama alive, and a who-done-it with enough twists, turns and rabbit holes that it’ll keep you guessing until the very end. This is a must read.
Dyer can’t write her follow up novel soon enough!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2018This book is a great crime novel with a lot of twists & turns. I was glued to my seat, following along with the different cases. It was great following along with the different teams, working on their cases & talking to each other about their cases. I liked all the characters on the team, while they were dealing with personal issues, they didn't let them get in the way of working their cases. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2021So many lines of mystery. I didn't even consider the stalker or the killer.
I did not like the end. I hope to find more books about Daniel and Rachel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read but too many loose ends
Very interesting read until the end which left too many loose ends. Seemed like there should have been another chapter. Wondering if the author is planning to write a sequel.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could do better
Not a very good story line spoilt even more the endless grammatical, spelling and typo mistakes. As example - passed used many times instead of past!
