Where Ravens Soar Kindle Edition

3.6 out of 5 stars 9 ratings

A genre-busting mix of urban fantasy, detective mystery, and Norse mythology.

Rifinn is no ordinary agent. As a descendant of Odin and operative for the Nine Worlds Protection Agency, she walks between realms - from modern day Portland to the mythic planes of Yggdrasil.

When a string of child abductions rocks the supernatural underground of her city, Finn is called to work with her human partner, detective Augustus, to investigate. But the missing children are only the beginning. Strange omens portend turmoil in the higher worlds, and Finn fears a dark power is meddling with forces beyond mortal knowledge.

Her investigation draws her into the depths of Vanaheim's primordial forests and the glittering citadels of Asgard. But the trail also leads much closer to home, between the skyscrapers and streets of her own urban domain. For lurking beneath the mundane façade is a sinister web linking the realms in shadow and blood.

To unravel the conspiracy, Finn must join supernatural abilities and police skills. With Augustus at her side, she fights to protect both the human and divine orders. But an ancient evil is unfolding its plan, and if Finn cannot stop the profane ritual in time, the veil between worlds will tear - plunging her city and the higher planes into apocalyptic ruin.

In this gritty, action-packed urban fantasy thriller, Finn and her partner Augustus must battle nightmares from all the spheres to save the Nine Worlds from a catastrophic Ragnarok.

This was a great read! I am a huge UF fan and this book absolutely scratched that itch. I'm also a sucker for new takes on different myths and this book delivered. The characters had depth and I connected with them as soon as the story began. I loved Finn and how the author presented her family dynamics with the Asgardians. If you are looking for a new Urban Fantasy I absolutely recommend this book!!!!

Michelle Connor's Where Ravens Soar is a an awesome read. Gripping from the beginning, she introduces you to Finn and the rest of the characters in a way that makes you invested in them, and want to know what happens next. Well researched in relation to the Gods/Goddesses included such as Odin, Thor and others, I believe I probably even learned something new about them as well. I enjoyed the book, and can't wait until the next one comes out!

3.0 out of 5 stars Norsk mythology gets the Men in Black treatment
Reviewed in Germany on May 15, 2019
This is a genre busting mix of Urban legend, Detective mystery and Scandinavian mythology.

Told in present tense, the reader is taken on a rollercoaster ride of non-stop action. There's snappy dialogue, ferocious battles, blood, guts and death as we follow a half-god detective and her shape shifting partner as they race to identify and then foil the plans of main villain.

The author clearly has a vivid imagination and builds a world full of detail. Indeed, this is where the book looses some stars. At times, the descriptions get in the way and cause the action to stutter. This is amplified by the constant changes of viewpoint that got me so tangled, I had to re-read certain passages to understand what was going on. In total, the prose feel a bit clunky and don't flow as well as the story itself deserves.

If you like lots of action within a dark, mythical and foreboding world rich in descriptive detal, you might enjoy this introduction to Michelle Connor's fantasy world. I certainly look forward to the next book, especially if the prose can be sharpened up a bit.
