Not my first read by this author but official review I guess! I have read BJ Harvery books a while ago and for a long time so, I am familiar with the writing.
Okay, from the start this was epic, by start i mean the BLURB. After-all it's really what grasped me, I LOVE LOVE Single-parent romance especially Mom's. This was one of the best ones. When Jamie's "plans" derale he decides to make it his life mission to up-bring Cook Brothers Construction, his current main focus. The meeting of Jamie and April is EPIC, haha love a heroine that is strong and sassy! What goes from a meeting during an unfortunate time, to udder LOVE! LOVE FOR THE ENTIRE STORY AND BOOK! It's so much fun to read, words flowing nicely, transitions smoothly and the action, laughter, oh so sexy construction worker...then you pair a sassy woman who has the cutest six year old...LOVE!
The whole story from beginning to end will have you on your toes. The characters are wonderful, every single one including the ex-mother-in-law (yep!) but what's beautiful is just the way that Jamie and April are with one another, you can relate and reading ti imagine yourself as April!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2022Have read a number of BJ Harvey books now and they are enjoyable, easy to read, feel good stories with lovely main characters and secondary characters.
This is exactly what we got here with book 1 of the Cook brothers series.
Jamie Cook sounds lovely and wonder how his ex could possibly walk away from him but thankfully she did so April can knock him off his feet.
Standard lovely romantic story of two people finding their one. No drama really.
All the Cook brothers sound great and look forward to their stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2019I came upon this book through BookBub as a freebie. I didn't know what to expect since I had never read anything by this author before. But since it was free, I figured why not? Let me tell you, I was thoroughly surprised. I have never laughed as hard as I did with this story. All of the characters are sassy and bold, but also so much fun. Coming from a big family, I know how siblings act, and this story brought me right back to my childhood days. Not that these guys are children, more like their late 20's and early 30's but they all still have that competitive mentality.
I loved all of the chaos surrounding this story. The opening scene drew me in and wouldn't let go. Jamie was a man on a mission, when it came to April. The banter between these two had me in laughter more often than not. I instantly fell in love with that sweet, adorable, little mischief maker, Axel. He was like a 40 year old man trapped in a 6 year old body. But I honestly think his swear jar needs to be upgraded to a wine barrel soon, if he continues to keep hanging with Jamie and his construction crew. lol!
For those who love a hysterical story, full of sassy, feisty, and very bold characters....you'll love this.
But for those who don't like graphic sex or excessive cursing, I'd take a pass on this one.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2020This was an okay read. It has its good parts and its slow parts. I had to put this book down for a while and come back to it to finish it.
Jamie was a hard worker. He had things to prove to himself. April was a single mother, with an in-law who lived with her. April worked just as hard as Jamie did. Axel (April's son) was very smart and funny. April's live in mother-in-law (Betty) was a great support to April and Axel.
The Cook brothers were very supportive of their brother (Jamie) and his project to flip houses. They had so much confidence in his abilities, that they invested time and money.
April's broken heart got reeled in by Jamie, who was flipping the house next door to hers, during one his drunken nights and an injury. April being the medical profession she was, sassed him up and patched him up. From that night forward, she had Jamie hooked.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2022I'm mad at myself for taking so long to finish this book. This book is currently free on Amazon (as of 10/4/22) and book one through five are on Spotify! Not part of the audio-books feature that Spotify just added, just look up BJ Harvey and you'll find them! All of the narrators did a fantastic job, *chef's kiss*.
Okay enough about the audio-books! LOL I was really glad to read this since I had already listened to it, it really made me love the Cook brothers even more. This first book starts off with Jamie and April, Jamie took a risk, left his job to start house flipping. April is his neighbor with an adorable son named Axel. The story follows how they learn to let themselves go with a new person and how they fall in love and become a family.
Both characters are sassy, witty and very relatable. Yes it's a fiction rom-com, but I felt like this is a love story that could happen to anyone. Harvey did a great job with the character development and I really appreciate how she made this book's timeline. I don't know if I said that right lol But I liked how this book was a span of a few months. Yeah I'd say it was basically a love at first time of thing, but Harvey gave us more than just the beginnings of a love at first time romance! And that is what I LOVE. I want the mundane moments between the two love interests, it makes it feel more real to me! There were some spicy scenes, so keep that in mind, but I'd say they were like a three out of five? I don't really know how to rate spice LOL
I don't have anything bad to say about this, only that I'm now wanting to read all the others ones and wouldn't mind have the full collection in physical book form! I will also be re-listening to all the audio-books now and probably reviewing them as well because Cook Brothers. If you read them, you get it. They are swoon worthy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay Book but now character depths
I thought this was an ok read, definitely had worse. The 18+ scenes are rather graphic.
I thought it was a nice change to write about a single mum finding love. What bugged me though was that her child clearly started to play second fiddle once she got down and dirty with the hero.
I would have liked to read more about the struggle to keep the forming relationship on the downlow or even the interaction between mum and the kid when she finally tells her son.
But the emotions of mum pretty much only included her feelings for our hero and no internal struggle on how to break it to her small child or any worries she could face if the relationship terminated after she introduced the hero as a new man in the house.
It just didn’t seem believable at these points.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart-Warming Rom-Com
Work in Progress was a fun contemporary romance full of laughter, chemistry and feel-good moments. This romance is between two characters in their mid-thirties who are experiencing their second chance at love and are a bit more cautious and jaded as a result. It starts with a hilariously relatable meet-cute which sets the stage for this neighbours-to-lovers romance with sweet chemistry and swoony moments.
One of the things that stands out most in Work in Progress is the amazing cast of characters. The main characters April and Jamie are so wonderfully written and their slow/medium-burn romance that builds up over the book is the perfect balance of laughter, heat and swoony moments. I also enjoyed the secondary characters, from Axel and Betty and their inclusion of Jamie in their family, to the crazy antics Cook brothers that I cannot wait to see more of in future books. Work in Progress is an enjoyable fast-paced contemporary romance that is easy to get lost in and will leave you with that warm swoony feeling by the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enthralled
I enjoyed reading this book. BJ Harvey was a new-to-me name, but the premise intrigued. The book lived up to the blurb - characters, story line, and humour. The last mentioned had me laughing aloud. Book 2 in the series, here I come!
