Sanctuary: An M/M Hurt Comfort Romance (Wrecked Book 1) Kindle Edition
What's the first rule of running a gym by and for combat vets?
Enjoy the scorching hot scenery but get your kicks somewhere else.
Never mind that my cousin-slash-business partner ignores that rule every chance he gets. I don't ignore it. Ever. And frankly, between Grindr and living in one of the gayest cities in America, it's not exactly a hardship.
Hell, it's so easy, I can do it on one leg.
That is, until a pair of blue eyes swimming with vulnerability shows up at my door, looking for a job. He's too skinny, too mouthy, and way too young for the likes of me, but he pings that protector instinct in me, hard.
I want to fix whatever put that lost look in his eyes, but to manage that, I'd have to do the one thing I said I'd never do.
Break my own rules.
Sanctuary is an MM military romance featuring hurt-comfort, found family, and a gym full of ripped men wearing tight shorts lifting heavy objects.
This is the first book in the Wrecked Series. The characters Evie, Scout, Jake and Jean-Pierre first appear in Scout and the Lavender Girl.

About the author

Hi there! I write gay romance, which is to say that I curse way too much, drink exactly the right amount of red wine, and sleep far too little. I’m also lucky enough to live in Central Texas with my wife and two dogs, where the astonishing diversity of humans and landscapes and tattoo shops serve as my muse.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is my first book by this author and it won't be the last. Nick and Elijah are great characters and I love all the secondary characters also. As a veteran with a family of veterans, I love the focus of this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseReally enjoyed this. It was a quick lovely read. I fell for the entire cast of characters and found them tons of fun for the most part. Really loved Jean Pierre, so definitely plan on reading the sequel.
Took off one star because I didn’t really like the fact that Nick was so willing to not hire Elijah just because of the way he dressed at the interview, I liked it even less that that was purely an excuse on his part because he didn’t want to hire someone he was attracted to. I hated that he was so willing to fire him on his first day for that same reason. Honestly, I just didn’t much like Nick at first. However, I did like the way he warmed up to Nick in the end and rather quickly.the novel had a great pace to it. However, Roly also lost points with me for what he called Baby Paris.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseNick needed someone to bring him some joy both at work and at home. Elijah is just the man for both! I absolutely loved these two so much. Elijah has his secrets, but they aren't bad. Nick has his issues, but he can be brought back from them. Roly was a huge support to Nick. I think he finally got through to him that he wasn't at fault for things that he had no control of. I love that Nick searched for Elijah and made up for his poor choice of words.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseFrom the moment we meet Elijah we know there is a history there and are constantly rooting for him. When he’s finally offered his wish in a golden platter and turns it down my heart shatters for him as it shows how much he’s been hurt. We still don’t know the entire story but catch glimpses until the end when all is revealed. This book had me run the gamer of emotions from swoon to bawling to pissed. It was one of those quick reads as you get so invested you can’t put it down. For instance my main reading spot is my bathtub as it’s the only place I’m left alone. I have taken 5 baths in 7 hours just to read this entire book as I couldn’t put it down. Unfortunately I now look like a raisin and have a ton to do today so it will be a bit before I start the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseChaotic. Too many side characters/activities.
It is hard to keep track of the story and the main characters. Not much romance or real emotions.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseNick and Elijah… Mmmmm their story took me on a journey I don’t often take because I have never served. It almost feels sacrilegious to me, but I saw this recommended so many times that I needed to give it a read. I’m so glad I did!
Wrecked is a gym for combat vets. A place they can go to gain or maintain fitness and find camaraderie. It caters to those who are amputees as well as those who aren’t. It’s accepting of trans clients and is a safe space for all those LGBTQ+ vets as well.
Nick is one of the owners and after a series of disastrous hires, in walks Elijah. He’s not bulky like many members, but with his background in military PT training, he was a good candidate.
The best things sometimes come from the worst and this is so true with Nick and Elijah. They both fight their attraction, but it’s glorious to see them fall.
Grab your copy and check out the people at Wrecked!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis, and the follow-up Wrecked book, , are both mArvelous and engrossing reads, hard to put down and a delight to pick up. The overarching theme of vets in need, and combined issues of PTSD and same sex love Re wonderfully set up and explored with complex characters with complex back stories that support and expand on the themes and theories of the books. the characters are brilliantly drawn and constantly surprising in the way they tackle complex problems, and sort out challenging and twisted turns in this story seller's art. I feel lucky that there is a third book coming in the Wrecked series and not even so long to wait as it's promised for the end of this month. I am totally charged and looking forward to reading more about these characters and their engrossing stories. I will keep coming back for more, that's for certain.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book made me laugh and cry. Being a veteran I was not insulted that Mrs Fox wasn't completely familiar with the military ranking, what pulled me in was how she tackled what veterans go through. And the snark, was definitely on point, and it felt so familiar and one if the things I missed about the military. As soon as Nick made that heartbreaking comment to Elijah, I immediately started crying. This story definitely makes you feel and think of how much words can hurt, but can also heal. I didn't stop reading until I completed this book and I am definitely looking forward to the next story, and the sex definitely made you want to fan yourself ;) If we had a gym like this, I would definitely make it an incentive to go as much as I could 😉

5.0 out of 5 stars Different experiences same home
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a touching and beautiful romance that opens up on some major issues and approaches them from both the side of the onlooker and that of the one experiencing it.
Nick runs a gym for veterans but is having difficulty finding other people to work for him who are willing to keep up with his work ethic for a fairly minimal pay. As a starting gym the position is for minimum wage but Nick still expects professionalism and hard work, which he doesn't seem to be finding. Elijah is just out of the army and looking for solid work to help him get on his feet and get back to college. It seems clear that Nick doesn't want Elijah there, but Elijah is a hard worker and determined to keep what is the best job he has found. But Nick's fears come from attraction to Elijah, which he worries is inappropriate. Meanwhile Elijah has his own secrets and can't open up until he is sure he has two feet on the ground again.
Elijah is great, soft in just the right way but also independent and snarky. He stands up for himself without being belligerent and works well both one on one and as a leader of a situation. It is clear he fits into the Wrecked family but watching how that acceptance touches him shows that there is more going on. Things about his past come out in little pieces and there are hints all along to what is happening with him. Watching him both take charge of his life and take help from others is a really beautiful story.
Nick has his own baggage from his time in the military and what happened to get him discharged. His recovery and good fortune in building a new civilian life makes him want to give a safe space to others coming out of service in need of the same. His fears of mixing work and intimacy along with his emotional fears of inadequacy make it difficult for him to reach out to Elijah, but with the help of friends and family as well as a desire to connect he really does make the move. It was intriguing seeing how he learns about Elijah and the impact of what it means, even as he makes mistakes about it at times. It was a sweet story that built into something truly amazing.
A great read that promises more from this fascinating cast of characters, can't wait to see what's up next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI really enjoyed this slow burn military mm book. What a great start to this series. Nick is a retired Nave SEAL with an amputated limb who together with his cousin Roly, owns a gym called Wrecked. A place for ex servicemen to go to work out and be with their own. We then meet Elijah who has recently returned from service to find his aunt has died and he had no idea. I really enjoyed the banter, bets, secondary characters of these guys at the gym. I can’t wait to read the other books coming out.

Both the MCs are grappling with their own issues that inevitably lead to confusion and conflict.
