Yesterday Is Ours (The Yesterday Series Book 3) Kindle Edition
I didn't deserve her, not after what I did, so I lied and pushed her away. I took the coward's way out and I broke her heart. Little did I know, I sentenced the rest of my days to an internal prison of hell.
I now find myself at a crossroads with the blonde beauty before me once more. And she still takes my breath away. Life just keeps on torturing me...
I’ve never believed in second chances, but I’d give anything for one with her.

About the author

HJ Bellus is a small town girl who loves the art of storytelling. When not making readers laugh or cry, she's a part-time livestock wrangler that can be found in the middle of Idaho, shot gunning a beer while listening to some Miranda Lambert on her Beats and rocking out in her boots.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2019OMG! What an absolute dream! This book was part magic, part tears and all the feels.
I lost a mini battle when little Cody showed big Cody her letter. She is dyslexic but she is so smart. I cried so hard. I was in awe of little Cody. She was the "sunshine" in my little book. Her character was so beautiful. She is my little hero. I am so thankful her character was written into the story. I will forever love her. She makes me smile. Oh and her love of yellow makes my heart sing.
I almost wasn't a fan of big Cody in the beginning. The premise of the story had him sleeping with Bertie's friend. But in the body of the story he admitted it was incorrect. He never slept with her. For that I am thankful but it still sits with me that the premise of the book made you believe it happened. That is my only downfall. But I ended up loving Cody. He was absolutely amazing in my book. He saved Kate (That Was Yesterday) from a fire and he was severely injured. It took Bertie as his surgeon to fix him.
Bertie was also an amazing woman. She really took this book to another level. I'm not sure I'd forgive big Cody but I guess your heart feels what it wants. She was simply entertaining. She made me believe in love and magic. I was enthralled with her attitude and loved her spice for life.
They were amazing together. I was so in love with them. It's been a while since I cried happy tears. But this book was just simply amazing.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2019This has been a good month for me with finding new authors to read. Let's face it, no matter how fast we can read, there is only so much time in our lives where we find ourselves with a lot of extra time. Especially those of us with children or those who work full time. Being a blogger I find myself overwhelmed sometimes with signups. And then there is the obligation to read and review in a timely manner. The truth is that sometimes I just want to read and forget blogging for awhile. Hey, reading is what started my path into the book community.
That said, this past month I've decided to reduce what I sign up to read, and read something that I choose. Don't misunderstand because blogging is a great way to find new books. As this H.J. Bellus book came across my emails yesterday. After reading the blurb, I knew I wanted to read it. So instead of adding it, I #onclicked from Amazon. I'm so glad I did because I enjoyed this book so much. Now I have a new author to look forward to reading more of.
Yesterday Is Our was emotional. There were some dark and intense moments that brought up the angst factor. There was also so much love and an adorable little girl who, very often, stole the show. This is a second chance romance between two people who have know each other since second grade. A bad decision on the hero's part tore them apart when they were in college. I'm going to be honest here, I was a bit confused about that situation and thought Cody could have handled it differently. One other small aspect that I didn't much like about the book is the Cody, Cody...Junior scenario. To say it got a bit confusing is an understatement. There were several moments where I had to reread scenes because I wasn't sure whose dialogue it was. Let me explain.....The hero's name is Cody and the heroine's daughter is named Cody. So little Cody decided big Cody should be called Junior. However, the heroine, Bertie, stilled called him Cody. See where I'm going here? It was a bit confusing. But that is really my only complaint because other than that I enjoyed the book. A lot. Since H.J. Bellus is new to me, I haven't read the prior books in The Yesterday Series. I plan to though. For sure!
All that said, this was an angsty, slightly suspensuful, sweet story of second chance love.
This is my honest review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2024I absolutely loved this book! Cody and Bertie deserved their second chance but it took a really wild ride to get it. I laughed at some of the antics in this book and cried when it looked like it could all come crumbling down. Read this…you won’t be disappointed!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 24, 2019A beautiful second chance love story with less heat but oh so many feels!
Little Miss Cody has a way of grabbing on to my heart and never letting go.
Between her secret handshakes with Nell ...
or her love of anything yellow ...
she's her own person and with the encouragement of her mother Bertie and Bertie's bf Nell, she takes the world by storm in her own individual way.
HJ Bellus has an uncanny ability to write children into the scenes and make me fall in love with them; she is spot-on with their ability to recall things that we would NEVER want them to recall at the most inopportune time! #kidssaythedarnedestthings
Things from the past will come back to haunt both Cody (aka Junior) and Bertie. The journey they must take to get to where they're going is one of hurt, humiliation and wrong-doings but only they can decide if forgiveness and reconciliation are in their future.
As a reader, you'd think that the focus of the pain and anguish would be on the H/h, yet HJ Bellus also brings front and center the emotion struggles of little Miss Cody - my heart ached for her!
Cody Sterling made some bad decisions both present and past.
Clearly Cody has an uphill battle to fight in order to get the girl - now let's see if he's up to the challenge!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2023I think this has to be one of the best love stories I've read. Realistic and heart-warming, I couldn't put it down. Little Cody is adorable, and when she experiences fear and sadness, I just want to reach out and hug her. "Junior" Cody is one of the good guys who deserves the break he gets when he finds out his high school love is the surgeon who will be replacing his hip! Ending is picture-perfect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read
Cody and Bertie were a great story and romance and both characters were strong and appealing. I still don’t get the full story of why he dumped her and might have missed it. Full of angst and miscommunication but good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great again
Another great read. I love all these characters so much, and I'll physically miss them all. Fantastic child scene stealers as always

2.0 out of 5 stars Flat
I dont know about all the reviews for this series so far giving it 5 stars because it seems wild to me after reading it. To start, the story wasn't written well let alone told well. Its choppy and glosses over what was apparantly trivial parts of their relationship, just for it to slide back to what it was super quick without much talk of what happened. To be honest at one point I was confused, I wanted to know what his deepest shame was etc and if that was the reason he sort of cheated? Just for that to be it, even though he causally spills that he 'effed' her roommate at the beginning in a weird monologue of mess ups, I wasn't sure if he was an alcoholic or what... the story read asif we already knew half his story, I didnt know what either of them looked like aside from hair, I didnt like the lackluster spicy scene, given that there was only one, why bother at all, and I just felt there was some depth seriously lacking to make this story what it couldve been. Maybe a few flashbacks to their time, but they acted as if it hadn't been hiw many years? I'm unsure seeing as it's implied its over a decade but that's it. There never seemed to be a proper discussion about what he did and why and her forgiving him, she just got scared he could die and started acting like his again. It was odd, so was his explanation to his friends about why they broke up, he tells her its because he was trying to protect her but if they assumed she left him, how was that to help her? Oh and what about her friend nell? She just up sticks and leaves her only friend who apparantly has been her rock and nanny for the last decade. It also makes no sense that after their breakup there was no contact if he was so in love, he just dropped out of college but opened a bar... there's just no segue that explains any of the little things. Its not my cup of tea and I'm reminded why I was hesitant to read this author again. Also wanna add, the grammar is a little all over the place every now and again, like a sentence doesn't make sense or it's the wrong word used... I did like young Cody though she was cute, it just couldve been so much more than what it was, I shouldve known seeing as it took me all of 2 hours to read
