A Billion Reasons Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 1,023 ratings

Would you work for Christian Grey if he had a sense of humor?

INTEROFFICE MEMO

Dear Madeline:

Be prepared to discuss the following at your performance review:

  1. HR guidelines about appropriate skirt length, heel height, perfume at the office, and laughing too much.
  2. At our recent work retreat, you failed the trust exercise. You did, however, excel at the ropes course. Note: you do not need to reimburse me for sharing my suite.
  3. Remember that your position under me depends on meeting hard, measurable goals.
  • Put this on a sticky note: nine inches.
  • PowerPoint presentation attached.

I could list a billion reasons why I don’t need an assistant to help me communicate effectively. After all, I didn’t become this wealthy and powerful by saying “please.” But there is one reason that I need you:

I’m falling for you.

Mr. Gage

PS. We also need to revisit the rules for Casual Friday.

A Billion Reasons is a hot, humorous, full-length, standalone contemporary romance about a demanding billionaire boss and his sassy, young secretary. Just a warning: this book will make you laugh out loud and then fan yourself, so keep that in mind when reading it on public transit.

Please note: This book was previously published as No Excuses.

Nikky's books have been compared to "Gilmore Girls, but with sex," but she got hooked on romance when she used her allowance to buy Jane Eyre at age seven. She still has that copy, with the university bookstore price tag on it.

When not writing or parenting her twin boys, she spends most of her time sneaking in naps, overcommitting to DIY projects around her house and pretending to exercise regularly.

This was a great, funny romance. So entertaining, and nothing like I expected from the intro. Anyone would enjoy this book. What I didn't like was how a 34 year old man isn't responsible enough to use a condom. And while everyone has problems, they can't not do their job without getting fired. Friend or not no one gets 9 months of slack.

Gage is a millionaire app developer who keeps his life controlled and organized and doesn't like anything out of place. Maddie is a recent college graduate and Gage's executive assistant. Can Maddie handle her controlling boss and the hot chemistry growing between them. This is a great office romance filled with amazing characters, awesome writing, a hot alpha, a beautiful woman and the right amount of steamy sex. I really enjoyed the humor and banter between the characters.

Before I even get to my thoughts on the story I need to rant about the lack of editing. I understand writing programs can only catch so much and human beings are not infallible, but this seemed like no one bothered proofreading at all. There were so many instances where words were swapped around or shouldn't be in the sentence at all. You couldn't understand the sentences because of the word jumble. Continuity was a bit of problem too. The characters are in one spot and suddenly they are over here. Articles of clothing are removed and suddenly they're back in place. Paying $3.99 for a book with this many errors really irks me and I really don't want to buy another from this author if I'll just be getting the same thing.

Maddie and Brian, or Gage as he prefers to be called, are opposites. He likes plans, control and lets everyone know exactly what he thinks. Maddie is flighty, can't plan to save her life and far from assertive. The attraction between starts subtly and shifts quickly. Their chemistry was great. I enjoyed their banter. The foreplay was both hilarious and steamy. Maddie not knowing what she wanted at times was really frustrating. Most romances it seems the woman doesn't know what she wants. Why? Don't we know what we want? Okay, when it comes to dinner choices I can never choose. I should get a pass for that. Right? I know indecision is part of the angst and her character, but it's still frustrating.

A positive thing is that they mostly complemented each other. She taught him to chill, communicate and be less of a d***. Gage makes Maddie try, to not quit (kind of successfully) and to be more assertive.

If you're not into reading about some bondage then this isn't the book for you. It's not crazy, just a little tying up and blindfolding, but I know not everyone is into that and some people appreciate a warning. I had missed the little tagline about this being a book that had a "Christian Gray with a sense of humor". Other people might miss that as well. I didn't read those books so I don't know if it compares. At least Gage is amusing.

The forbidden office romance is always entertaining, but the whole HR issue is a mess. She's his assistant, they're sleeping together, people find out and wouldn't that be a huge mess? When legal issues arise and aren't really addressed realistically it kind of irks me.

And now that I have read the book the title annoys me. I don't think it fits. It wasn't even a "thing" in the book. Ya know, where someone says the title in the book. Seems like a wasted opportunity.

Overall, it was an entertaining read, the chemistry was good and the characters were also good, at least the few we meet. It would have been nice to learn a little more about Bobbie and Aaron. I just wish there weren't so many errors. If that bugs you, run. Run far away.

There is a chance to get an extra epilogue but I didn't want to sign up for a newsletter so I don't know what happened after the epilogue. It's probably riddled with errors.

I just loved this story of Madeline and Gage (aka Brian or Brain). From the start they were made for each other but they needed to get past the hang-ups both of them had. I laughed and laughed at some of the repartee -and the book was sexy, and loving, and a little kinky. Not sure about the retreat games - but no doubt they would have been hilarious to try.

I really enjoyed this one, and can't wait to read more books by Nikky.

The story flowed really well and kept your attention throughout the whole book. Nikky did a great job pulling you into Gage and Maddie's story and they had such a good chemistry together. Their relationship didn't feel rushed into and everything was timed out really well.
They each had things they needed to work through in order to truly let one another in, and it causes some hurdles in their relationship that they need to figure out how to overcome. But in the end their love for each other is stronger than any of their character flaws that they have, and in I enjoyed reading about them getting to that point.

I'm glad I took a chance on this one! I enjoyed it, and I know I'll be reading more by this author soon :)

I got this book in exchange for a voluntary review. Maddie is a personal assistant to billionaire Brian Gage, He will push and try her patience everyday because he is an alpha male. The author is very good at getting the reader to feel what the character's are going through emotionally. This is an erotic love story that will show just how much some CEO's are emotionally challenged.

This was a snail pace slow burn romance. I enjoyed the storyline and characters but I also skimmed through some of the chapters.
It almost felt like too much was happening, some much time focusing on the secondary characters.

This book is exactly what you need on a stressful day.
It's hilarious and romantic. There is a little pain and loads of joy.
I was laughing crazily at several occasions while reading this book.
    Absolutely loved Brian's character.
It's amazing how Nikky has written with ease about delicate topics like foster care, child abandonment and the effects it has on the kid in such a fun book.
Although, the book contains several sensitive topics the book is a fun read.
    Would re-read any day.😁

No excuses is the cover book, but you also get 2 more. Bought by the Billionaire Brothers. Brian Gage is owner and CEO, Maddie his assistant. Brian has decided they need to go on a w/e retreat where they would stay in a hotel in the mountains doing team building stuff. His sister is running it as she works at the hotel, all his top team were to go, it was mandatory, they had to be pulling together as they worked on an upcoming new product launch. This is not a soft and fluffy romance, it's better than that, with lots of laughs thrown in. The Billionaire brothers are 2 books but intertwined. The 1st is about Evie and Dom. Evie has huge debts and her BFF Annie convinces her after several glasses of wine, to go on line to auction off her virginity. The next morning she woke wearing a bra and panties set she didn't own, plus a raging hangover. She'd entered a profile, with Annie's help, and now she had loads of emails and offers , Dominic Stone's being the best. The 2nd book is about Dom's brother Jake and Annie. Annie has a stalker, she's a little jumpy, getting home late 1 night she sees Jake putting something in her mail box and assumes he's the stalker. All 3 are excellent reads, they are definitely adult books so steer clear if you've not about this. At 99p they are a bargain in 1 book. I loved them sure you will too...................
