A Lucky Shot Kindle Edition
He started it, but I'm going to finish.
Beckett Hallstrom is a rich, smirking, climbable treehouse of a man, with all the cockiness that comes with being a sports celebrity.
Had I known who he was, I might have asked for a time-out.
Instead, I’m falling hard for an older man who was a high scorer when I was still in pigtails.
He couldn't keep me a secret if he tried--which he doesn't really want to. Now, the whole city is convinced that our budding relationship will make or break his team’s playoff dreams.
I’ve heard that hockey players are superstitious, but Beck wants to keep me in his pocket and rub me like a rabbit’s foot. ♥
I’m a lucky girl, right? Or am I just getting played?
A LUCKY SHOT is a steamy, standalone sports romance novella about getting swept up in the action. Body checking is allowed!

About the author

Nikky's books have been compared to "Gilmore Girls, but with sex," but she got hooked on romance when she used her allowance to buy Jane Eyre at age seven. She still has that copy, with the university bookstore price tag on it.
When not writing or parenting her twin boys, she spends most of her time sneaking in naps, overcommitting to DIY projects around her house and pretending to exercise regularly.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2020Lucy is at her first ever hockey game when a sexy man comes on to her. She’s instantly smitten and the chemistry between them is off the charts. She doesn’t know who he is though. He’s a hockey legend, Beckett “Beck” Hallstrom. Their chemistry is so strong that before she quite realizes what is happening, Lucy is all over Beck, and vice versa.
This is definitely an insta-love romance but it was a sexy and uncomplicated one that was a good way to spend an hour. Lucy is being described as Beck’s “lucky charm” in hockey (he’s no longer a player, rather works for a team in a scheduling and support position) and while she isn’t thrilled with the title, she definitely enjoys spending time with Beck.
There are a few small arguments along the way but ultimately these two find true joy and sex (lots and lots of sex!) in each other. There is one scene I was not a fan of, early on in their romance where Beck basically uses Lucy to hopefully have his team score a goal. It wasn’t the most attractive element to his character that’s for sure. But he groveled and he treated her better throughout the course of the book so I was willing to let it go since Lucy also forgave him.
A Lucky Shot is my first Nikky Kaye book. I am intrigued enough to look into her other stories now!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2020Love Beckett and Lucy. So hot. Intense and swift their meeting and attraction to one another. Loved the crazy sports superstitions that played into the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2020This is a quick read with fantastic characters in the hockey player turned team manager and the librarian working on her master’s degree. An insta for both when they met during a hockey game. Beck and Lucy are so sweet and sexy together. Even though this is a short novella it didn’t short on wonderful content and character development. I read this in a couple of hours and wanted more of Beck and Lucy. Fabulous writing, a terrific sports storyline, and a couple with a insta steamy connection makes this worth the read. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2020I felt that this would have worked better if the Heroine had been much much younger; at age 25 her character as the naive ingenui with all her well-rounded and thesis educated, diverse background? And still dorm living? Wow. I just was not buying what the Author was selling.
The Hero I wanted to be older maybe because 36 just isn't old for hockey players these days. Yes the groin injury explained his retirement but if you are writing an OMYW story then I really think that there should be a rule that the man has to be closer to 50 than 30. Regardless, I was turned off when the Hero - to win a hockey game because he thought it would happen in his bizarre mind - forced a hand job to orgasm on the Heroine ON NATIONAL TELEVISION AND IN FRONT OF 50K CROWD. Yeah. Then the Author turns that around like it was all ok because luckily it wasn't caught on camera.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2020What more can you want than an alpha that goes right after what he wants? I mean if I was in Lucy's place I would love it up as long as I could. Beckett is the ultimate and Lucy scored him....lucky girl!

The H is a hockey team manager and the h is a college graduate student. He is 36 to her 25. Instant attraction for both of them when they meet at her first hockey game. Lots of sex and superstitious beliefs.
There was potential for a good story but it was clouded with too much sex. I did not get a good feel of the characters.
A 2.5 star recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2020Nikky Kaye scores with A LUCKY SHOT. In this story, hockey coach/former NHL goalie Beckett Hallstrom meets a graduate student, Lucy, at a Staley Cup playoff game. Their attraction is instant. Lucy’s presence has the superstitious hockey community convinced that their relationship/Lucy’s attendance will determine the series outcome. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult readers.
I liked the concept of this story. Hockey players and fans are very superstitious, so I appreciated the idea. I thought the dynamics of Beckett's former team playing his current team/Lucy’s prior hometown versus her present hometown in the Stanley Cup playoffs was interesting. The characters had great chemistry.
A LUCKY SHOT was fun to read during the current playoffs. It is an entertaining and quick read. I recommend this book to people who enjoy hockey romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2020Holy hotness!!! This book was seriously on the super hot and heavy side from start to finish!! It had a great storyline too, and it was really well written. Characters were sexy, witty and well developed. The only thing I’d say is that it is sooooo short!!! I easily read it in a couple of hours, and I don’t think it was because of it being that good. So when it says it’s a novella, it really is a novella, which is a shame because I wanted more of it, and the end felt a little too abrupt.
