Angel Without Mercy (Agnes Carmichael Mysteries Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 93 ratings

In the hospital of St. Jude’s, nobody likes Marion Hughes…

As the night duty’s Superintendent Nurse, Miss Hughes is feared and loathed by all when she goes on her rounds.

For Nurse Carmichael, who desperately wants to get away from the children’s ward and into a Sister’s position, a bad report from Miss Hughes could end her career prospects in a heartbeat.

It seems they will never get rid of the so-called ‘angel without mercy'.

But when tensions are this high and so many people have so much to lose, it only takes one person to finally snap…

Reminiscent of Patricia Highsmith,
Angel Without Mercy is a tense psychological thriller.

I enjoyed reading this book. Everyone that wants to kill the awful Marion Hughes gets in the left-hand line. The storyline and the characters were great. I knew who the killer was before it was revealed. There were lots of people in the running for the award. This is the kind of thing that happens when a person messes in other people's lives.

If you like medical mysteries. Keeps you guessing to the end. And the killer so many times is someone with medical issues. Sad.

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. The large cast of characters made it an interesting whodunit. It kept me guessing, and I confess that I didn't figure it out. (I would love to read follow-up treatises on the lives of each of the characters.)

I enjoyed this book and I also enjoyed booklover's review of it and agree that I did not like any of the characters except maybe the assistant in the baby ward. However, the characters are real and excellently developed. We wanted so much for the male nurse to dump his lover who only used him for the drugs he stole for him. But again, isn't this real life? We know that people in love will do almost anything to keep their companion especially if it's a lopsided affair.
The mean girl in this story will be familiar to anyone who has worked under a self-centered, self-serving, arrogant tyrant who seems to have a gift for spotting potential situations to report as serious errors and who basks in the fear she creates. A physically beautiful woman with a nursing degree and a heart of stone. Satisfying ending wraps up this sad and unrelenting medical misery, I mean mystery.

When I started it I thought it was going to be very good. I was disappointed. The ending was very non inspiring. Once you had a mystery it lasted 2 minutes and book finished. The idea and writing was good but the final product is lacking. Can't recommend.

Interesting book about the going on's and employees of St. Jude's Hospital It revolves around the nursing supervisor, nurses and patients. Each has something that they do not wish to come out, and for some, it could cost them their job as well as possible freedom. Each has their own reason for why they do not like the supervisor. I must admit, I didn't like her either...lol.. Good book, as it makes you want to continue reading to see the outcome. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC in return for my honest review.

Politics and secrets in a hospital. I liked the characters which are very well drawn. There are a lot of sub-plots which keep the story moving well. However I thought the ending was hurried hence only 4 stars.
