- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2015I have just finished reading Arisen 1-8. I have enjoyed all these books and love the characters. I read the first book in a compilation and had to get all the rest one after the other. The characters are so well written and you really care about them right away.
Alpha Group is totally Awesome !! It's hard to say who I liked best. Juice, Handon, Ali, Homer, and Pred !!!
You become so involved with these characters that when something happens to one of them you feel for them. You learn a great deal about Special Ops, different weapons, the heart of our Country's and England's Best of the Best of the Best to help us survive the end of the world. They are well trained people who put it on the line in conditions most of us would just give up and die in.
I can't wait for book number 9 to come out and will get the prequels while I'm waiting. I have found two new author's that I like and will search out other books by them, and look forward to reading them. I don't like to tell about the books I read because it spoils it for people who have yet to read them. I hope everyone gets these books. They are really good stories, really good characters except for a really bad guy living alone way far away - he will be back.....Oh No !!!!
I hope everyone enjoys these books as much as I have they rock it in the book world !!!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2014Messrs. James and Fuchs created an entertaining zombie world in which Britain stands alone as an island sanctuary against a world overtaken by a zombie plague. Elite special forces including Americans are sent into danger on missions to retrieve bits of research from labs on the continent, but the most promising lead points to Chicago, in the middle of a dark and silent USA. The only remaining aircraft carrier is sent with the special forces Alpha team to pursue it. And so ends book one and begins book two. It was good stuff, and "Mogadishu of the Dead" is just as good, and in fact was hard to put down. The action is tense and, apart from the zombies, original.
The book confines itself to two locations: Chicago with Alpha team, and the aircraft carrier. Fortress Britain is out of the picture. All in all, an outstanding continuation of the series!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 9, 2013Got to tell you, I love this series. I have read both Arisen : Genesis & Arisen, Book One - Fortress Britain and gave them BOTH 5-Star reviews, as I will this one. I remarked that the Arisen series appears to be written just for me, but I have never met either author. I am a fan of Michael Stephen Fuchs, mainly due to his hi-tech special ops thrillers: D-Boys & Counter-Assault (D-Boys #2). I am an action, zombie, thriller, & special ops junkie and these thrillers are PERFECT in those regards. I cannot wait for the 3rd book to come out, it should be due any day now. Genesis is the prequel to the series. Also, just to let you know, I did not receive this book free, but paid for it the DAY it came out.
********
These authors have written a very well put together thriller and have managed to set the story in 3 different locations: on the aircraft carrier the JFK, in Great Britain, and in Chicago, without confusing us readers. I want to know about what is going on in all 3 locations. The world they are painting is very bleak indeed and almost appears hopeless. Yet our heroes press on. The specical force operators (from the U.S. and Britain) are not cardboard sterotypes. No, these guys/gals come across as deeply committed with many personnel issues as we would expect, such as: family concerns, religious beliefs, death issues, and so on.
I have read some other special forces/action thrillers recently (and please, check out my reviews, to see what types of books I have read and enjoyed) that claim to be action oriented and then I discover they are either poorly written or are really romance books pretending to be action. The characters in the Arisen books have feelings, but no sappy romances.........And these books are very well written (as I mentioned before). Glynn and Michael: please keep the Arisen series coming..........I would subscribe to this series if that option was available.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2013So, I read book one based upon one of my favorite authors recommendations on Facebook. It was good, the ending was really good and I was thinking so what's the big deal. Having faith in my author and hoping the next book would be as good as the as the last few chapters of book one, I tried book two.
Wow! Awesome. You really get to know and care about the characters. It is fast paced, the zombies are mean and quick. Luckily our heroes are top warriors and faster. The story takes us to a major USA city trying to get a formula that may be humanity's last chance to survive in this apocalyptic world. But for the bravery and cunning of the elite soldiers assigned to retrieve the formula, this difficult mission is a suicide mission at best. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, or the Super Aircraft Carrier that is organizing the entire operation, they have their own problems with crazy bad guys and of course ... more zombies.
This is one of those hard to put down books so be ready to spend a good chunk of hours to spend on this adventure! Oh, and it even gets better. There's five books in this series! On to book three ...
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2014Arisen Book Two is an excellent and quick read. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I am looking forward to Book Three; which I will start as soon as I finish this review. I only give the book four stars because I felt that sometimes the story lacked in character and plot development. That is just my personal opinion and, as I stated earlier, I did enjoy the book. I recommend this book to lovers of the zombie genre and also to lovers of the military fiction genre. The authors are excellent at portraying realistic battle action and creating pulse-pounding zombie suspense. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best
I have never gone through a series of books as quickly as I did the Arisen. One after the other for all 5 books, then the prelude to them. Could not put them down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome series of books
I originally only started to read this series of books because book one was free at the time, so I thought it could not be much good how wrong I was, the idea of special forces verses zombies turned out to be a brilliant concept, all four books are very well written with a frighteningly believable story, my only complaint about this series is that it has destroyed my social life as from book one I haven't been able to stop reading them.
Arisen, Book One - Fortress Britain
Arisen, Book Three - Three Parts Dead

5.0 out of 5 stars A Zombie Saga, tons of action, great plots
Each book tells the continuing saga of a world upside down where everything has changed due to an infection that turns 7 billion people into raving, human hungry zombies. This goes well beyond the Walking Dead for action as Fortress Britain, the only country left standing, is trying to reset the world to being zombie free.
The missions are many and the action is hot as American and British military conduct missions across the globe trying to find materials and people in a race to stop the extinction of the human race.
There are many characters in this saga and yet the author develops them with depth and reality. The protagonists and the antagonists seem to be so real, as does the action. Reading this saga pulls you in and places you in the middle of the action.
This HAS to be one of the BEST Zombie saga's going !!! Detail, information and realism pervades throughout the 12 books (books 13 & 14 will arrive) and I can't wait !

4.0 out of 5 stars Heroism at its finest
The authors have constructed a tribute to the special ops hero. Contrasting the finest qualities of the elite warrior with the treacherous mutineers on the aircraft carrier.
Faced with great danger and uncertainty, the special ops warrior is resolute and decisive. Exhibiting esprit de corps with the willingness to sacrifice their lives for their comrades.
In this story, anything that can go wrong does. What would you do in their shoes?

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, addictive action
A good idea written fairly well, and it certainly does draw you in once it gets going. I bought books 2 and 3 at the same time and got through both within a week or two as they do keep you coming back once the team get their mission underway (which takes a little while). I now need to buy book 4 which I will do without hesitation. My only slight gripes are that on occasion it seems as though a part of the description of the action is missing, leading you to think 'how did they get out of there?' etc., and that they are keen to use an official (but unnecessary) name for something and giving you an acronym which is never mentioned again! The last point I wouldn't mind so much but always feel I should remember what it stands for but then never need to!
All in all a good, gripping read. Highly recommended.
