Aveline is no ordinary noblewoman...
And hers is no ordinary story.
LOVE AND BLOODis the much awaited sequel to The Chronicles of Aveline: Awakening, a historical thriller/romance/adventure for readers who enjoy medieval/crusade stories.
In the time of Saladin and Richard the Lionheart
During the Third Crusade...
After escaping from a life sentence at a convent, Lady Aveline of Froulingham fulfills her ambition of linking up with King Richard’s forces in the Holy Land. Her quest is to find her former lover, Sir Quentin de Ballon, sentenced by the Church to fight in the crusade for thirteen years as punishment for their illicit love affair.
Aveline finds herself in the midst of the war between Richard the Lionheart's and Saladin's armies, as they battle for control of Jerusalem. She quickly earns the monicker, The Green Devil --- feared by Saladin's army for her formidable skills with sword and bow.
But... they do not know she's a woman.
As her search for Quentin continues, her love wavers when she finds herself increasingly attracted to a protective French knight, Sir Guy de Toulouse. Together with her squire Athlestan, he has been her companion throughout her long sea voyage to the Holy Land.
Can her love for Quentin withstand the cruelties of war?
How can she continue hiding her true identity from the king when she is asked to join the King's Guard?
Find out in LOVE and BLOOD, The Chronicles of Aveline Book 2. A saga of love, history, adventure, and suspense.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2019I adored THE CHRONICLES OF AVELINE: AWAKENING, and long have I awaited the release of THE CHRONICLES OF AVELINE: LOVE AND BLOOD. I have been anxious for the release of this book since I read the final sentence in book 1, in fact. Of course, there was always that niggling little worry that the second book would not live up to the first, but that fear was put to rest within pages of the first chapter in this sequel.
Indeed, LOVE AND BLOOD takes this Medieval Historical Novel to the next level as the risk to Aveline’s life increases, along with the very real possibility that her quest to find her lover, or her brother may fail. This tale is far more intense with a multitude of action and battle scenes, many twists, turns and surprises. I barely had time to catch my breath when the next challenge or danger presented itself.
The crusaders’ arrival in the Holy Land is both a relief and a shock to Aveline. She finds herself rubbing shoulders with the very enemy she is bound to fight as a knight and soon to be Commander in King Richard’s Guard. Although she feels that now she may finally find her beloved Quentin and her brother Giles, she also feels the uncertainty that she, or they, will survive these crusades.
LOVE AND BLOOD is fast paced, but flows beautifully. Ken Fry’s masterful story-telling mesmerized, entertained, and excited me pages after page. I loved this book, perhaps even more than the first book. Sadly, I now have to wait again for book 3.
I very highly recommend this novel, and I hope Mr. Fry is busy writing the next book in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2020In this second volume of the adventures of Avaline, our intrepid author has soared to new heights. His singing prose brought to mind other stories of adventure. This is some lofty and highflying stuff here.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2020As much as I loved book one of the Chronicles of Aveline Series, I loved book two even more! From page one the adventure unfolds for Aveline as she leaves for the Holy Land in search of her beloved Quentin and her brother Giles. Mr. Fry's writing is so rich and captivating, I found myself immersed in the action, cheering Aveline, Quentin and Giles on, hoping for their safety...and not wanting to put the book down until it was certain.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2021I used an Audible credit for this audiobook because it wasn't available on AudiobooksUnleashed. Having read Book 1, I had to pick up this one. It is a continuation of Aveline's adventures as a knight in the Crusades. Surrounded by history she sets off to find Quinton who is serving a sentence he and Aveline suffered earlier. There's a Book 3 because there are unresolved elements. The covers are similar and I passed this book by several times before I read the fine print. A truly great read and narration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aveline Continues Her Crusader Quest.
Aveline, the Lady Crusader, comes ashore in the Holy Land on her continued quest and search for Sir Quentin de Ballon. Her lost and forbidden love for which she and Quentin have paid a heavy price. With her constant companion and squire, named Athelstan, Aveline begins to earn a reputation for herself as the Green Devil. This is from Saladin's Saracen forces. She becomes part of King Richard the Lionheart's crusade to recapture Jerusalem. Upon campaign with the King's forces, her love for Quentin begins to waver when she finds herself attracted to a French nobleman named Sir Guy de Toulouse. A very entertaining continuation in this second of the Aveline Chronicles with some great action scenes.
