"Eeva Lancaster’s informative book clearly
lays out all the steps an indie author needs to take when publishing and selling their book. Each chapter dives into a separate topic, explaining why the section is important first before moving onto the detailed how-to section. Sprinkled with anecdotes to help drive the points home, Being Indie is as fun as it is educational." ~ Literary Titan Review

"While it comprehensively covers all the tasks authors must accomplish before and after publication, what truly makes this book stand out is
how quickly we get to the heart of the matter on each topic. With only a few paragraphs to explain why things are important, readers will appreciate how quickly they get into the meat of solving the problem." ~ Literary Titan Review

"This book
demystifies the many aspects of self-publishing and presents them in a no-nonsense approach that I found refreshing. Other books might exist on the subject, but I have yet to read one that offers this level of clarification."

"What I appreciate most about Being Indie is t
he experience, and knowledge the author has about the process and the honesty with which she speaks."

"This is
one of the best books any writer can read before venturing into the publishing industry. Matter of fact, to the point advice that I wish I'd read years ago. Ms. Lancaster also gives you the tools and a plan of action to be the champion of your work."

This book demystifies the many aspects of self-publishing and presents them in a no-nonsense approach that I found refreshing. Other books might exist on the subject, but I have yet to read one that offers this level of clarification. Ms. Lancaster says it as it is, without sugar-coating it, and gives the indie author a realistic direction to follow, saving a considerable amount of time, money, and headaches. The information presented is thoughtful, well written, and more useful than most books twice its size. I would highly recommend “Being Indie” to newbies, as well as more established authors looking to refresh their skills in this ever-changing industry.

Those who know me well, know that I'm always on the hunt for new reads - especially if they're helpful. As a future indie author, I'm also keenly interested in books on self-publishing. So it wasn't a big surprise when an indie author friend all but threw a title at me, with a note, "Read this now." Being Indie by Eeva Lancaster, AKA The Book Khaleesi, was that book.

From writing and editing, to author platform and choosing the right publishing platform, Ms. Lancaster tackles the hot topics in this competitive field with an air of authority and finesse. She is clear and concise and takes the confusion out of what to do when.

Tons of books have been written on the topic, and I fully recommend reading a variety of authors (because we all learn differently, and one writer might leave out that burning question that you're hunting for answers to). Eeva Lancaster's Being Indie needs to be at the top of your pile when you're ready to tackle self-publishing.

BEING INDIE by Eeva Lancaster is a no-nonsense guide to Indie Authors, whether beginner or experienced, you will benefit from reading this book. I wish it had been available when I began my career as an Indie writer, things would definitely have gone better for me with such a guide in hand..

BEING INDIE is chock-full of information to keep authors on the straight and narrow path they must tread, especially once they have proudly typed, “The End” on their finished manuscript. Newbies basking in the afterglow of their accomplishment will be surprised to discover that at that point, their journey as an Indie Author has only begun. But I won’t give out spoilers or presume to tell you about BEING INDIE myself, Ms Lancaster does a masterful job of doing that. So, buy the book and find out what becoming an Indie really means. If you are an Indie, or aspiring to become an Indie, you will be glad you did.

I highly recommend BEING INDIE to all Indie Authors or those contemplating becoming an Indie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise and Valuable Self Publishing Guide
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 10, 2018
This is a valuable little book for Indie Authors to help them appreciate the road ahead from when they finish writing their manuscript, to preparing a book for sale, and then developing their online presence and marketing strategy.

The book is divided into 3 main Parts: i) Pre-Publishing, ii) Building the Author Platform, and iii) Post-Publishing.

The Pre-Publishing Section has some really useful pointers which help the author prepare for what lies beyond them finishing their story and manuscript. This section provides an important checklist:
    1. Send manuscript to beta readers
    2. Editing and Proofreading
    3. Cover Design
    4. Formatting - for eBooks and paper books
    5. Publish - where and what those choices mean

Experience has enabled Eeva Lancaster to inform on many of these issues and one I found really interesting was the penalties associated with withdrawing from a pre-order agreement. An issue she suffered in the publication of this book.

The Part of Building an Author Platform is certainly a starting point for appreciating the importance and the major aspects of building an image, reputation, reach and value, but it is not an extensive coverage of digital and online marketing. It is important to consider a website, blog and use of existing marketing platforms such as Amazon. It is, however, crucial that you build an author kit and behave professionally and consistently at all times. The benefits of networks of authors, publishers, readers and reviewers, and support services are fundamentally important as you grow your market for book sales.

Very good checklist recap at the end of the book. For anyone new to self-publishing or feels that they would like a refresher this is a great read. More detailed information is available in specific content books but this book brings a lot of experience to inform you in a concise and valuable manner.
