Rafe yearns to marry again and start a better family than the one he came from. He gets more than he bargains for with Sophie Calhoun.

Newly established decorator Sophie seeks to make her mark on the city, but to concentrate on her design studio she has been parted from her adored daughter for far too long. When Rafe confesses the ugly truth of his upbringing, Sophie sees disaster ahead. Rafe was also hidden away, and it tore him apart. Will he ever forgive Sophie if he discovers she's done the same?

A heart-warming story of love, loss, and dangerous currents... a beautiful house that needs her touch, and a beautiful man who needs her love even more.

Thanks for coming to meet me. I love words, and I use them to make the world a happier place by creating people who are perfect for each other – although maybe they can’t see that to start with.

I began writing at my local radio station in New Zealand and never stopped. TV followed, then horticultural articles (because I'm a keen gardener). After several advertising agencies, I then spent happy years as a retail ad manager. Totally hooked on fabrics, I surprised everyone by going into the curtain installation business with my husband and working for some of the capital city’s top designers. Good for my body, and it freed up my brain to write fiction. I didn't fall off my ladder once through drifting into romantic dreams, but I’ve certainly seen many beautiful homes and met wonderful people, and I may just have stolen glimpses of them for the books. (I didn’t say that, did I?)

I write sexy contemporary romance under my real name and the Merry Summerfield cozy mysteries as Kristie Klewes. These are funny and flirty and absolutely clean. (Well - apart from the bloodstains!)

I’m the author of more than thirty novellas and novels, three of which were finalists in New Zealand’s Clendon Award. Each can be read as a stand-alone, but some make up linked series. I hope you enjoy them all.

My more recent romances are billionaire beach stories about the wealthy Wynn family in Scarlet Bay - Summer Sparks, Summer Secrets, and Summer Spice. And the new Promise books - Promise You Nothing and Promise You Plenty.

Kris es una chispeante autora de romántica contemporánea, pura y simplemente. ¡Bueno, quizá no tan pura!

Sophie is on the verge of opening her own decorating business, Subtle. She hopes that this will be her big break. She always had to settle for the cheaper things in life, so she could set aside every penny she had to spare. She saved the money to set up her own company and to send to her mother, who raises Sophie's daughter Camille. On Subtle's opening day she meets Rafe. Rafe is a very successful boat and yacht builder and he needs a decorator for his new home. Does Sophie have what it takes to land such an important assignment?

Sophie was very young when Camille was born and it devastated her to leave Camille with her mother until finding the financial stability to take care of her herself. Rafe didn't feel loved by his parents when he grew up. He was raised by his grandparents and Rafe is a strong believer of the idea that children need to live with their parents. Sophie and Rafe have an instant attraction towards each other. She was his the moment their eyes met, just as much as he is hers. Every day they grow closer together, but how can Sophie tell Rafe that her daughter lives with her mother?

The Boat Builder's Bed is a sweet story about two people who deserve a second chance at love. Sophie is such a strong woman and even though Rafe is a billionaire she isn't fazed by his money and stands up for herself when she needs to. I love to read about strong females and caring alpha men. Rafe is used to getting what he wants and he's ready to settle down. It was endearing to read about how much he starts to care for Sophie in such a short time and how he immediately knows he has found his match. There's an obstacle though, Sophie is scared he won't understand her choices and I was wishing for her to find the courage to trust this amazing man. Kris Pearson knows how to write an addictive and compelling love story. She's a new author for me and I already can't wait to read more of her books.

He'd been encouraged to exact revenge on his parents' decision to disown him. But it had left him guarded and alone. Far from the life full of love, laughter and family he so desired. Despite being intelligent, humorous, persistent and delectable, Rafe was a man in pain.

She had a secret that she didn't want to keep, but felt if revealed, would cost her the secure world she was desperate to create. Sophie Calhoun oozed strength, warmth, fun and intelligence - a wonderful character, determined to resist Mr 'sex on a stick' Rafe Severino.

Together, as sizzling sexual tension swirled around them, the pull of their individual desires mingled with their joint passion and possible joint future. Unless secrets are exposed, not told, condemned not forgiven.

Coupled with believable, witty dialogue, heart wrenching storyline and strong like able characters, A Boat Builder's Bed ticked many boxes for me. It was fun, sad, poignant, beautifully descriptive and sexy. The conflict was raw and the character insight compelling. I liked the subtle shifts between POV and the beautiful images of New Zealand in which it was set. I liked the story.

There were a few areas I would have loved for the author to go further, deeper and provide more resolution. Despite that, it was a well-written romance with an interesting descriptive prose.
`He'd been sensual and playful - and then he'd taken her with such hunger and intensity that her emotions whirled around like debris in a roaring hurricane.'

My one frustration was the cover. Why have a dark haired model for a blonde heroine, and a pale skinned male for a quarter Cherokee Hero? Not a biggy, but it was noticeable. I was in my happy place reading the Epilogue of course - greedy reader that I am! I will be back for more of author Kris Pearson's work.

What skill Kris Pearson has in writing this love story. I could put you off by saying there is nothing more but the growing love between the two characters, no action, suspense etc but it wasn’t needed as the storyline alone will keep you hooked. The flirtatiousness, the humorous and enjoyable banter between the two along with the sexual innuendos will be sufficient to keep you reeding and love it. I couldn’t put it down

In brief Rafe runs into Sophie while she is opening her new interior design venture building. Being windy her new sign hits his car and an amazingly sweet yet sexy love story begins with a few hiccups along the way

Sophie use to work for Rafe’s ex wife so they knew of each other and when the accident occurred he offered her the role of decorating his new home, or mansion he is building, it sure helped with the instant attraction between the two. Sophie accepts desperately needing a customer, the cash and wanting Rafe on the side

During the renovations of his home the two grow closer quite quickly as they are spending so much time together. As a couple they “appear” to have considerable differences, Rafe’s extremely wealthy, sexy with all the trimmings that come along with that, Sophie is a struggling single mother with barely a sent to her name in second hand clothing, having her mum temporarily look after her daughter in order to provide a better life for her.

The one thing that may tear them apart is the strong belief Rafe has that a mother should look after her child, not a relative. A value he can’t see past due to his own upbringing, fuelling Sophie to fear admitting what she has had to do to survive. Rafe’s vindictive and irritating ex, although doesn’t want him for racial reasons and separated due to differences in values, doesn’t want him to be happy and wants pay back. It’s a case of I don’t want him but you can’t have in either.

Purchase the book, read it and enjoy the sweet and sexy ride

Kris' writing style is easy to read. The two main characters were completely believable and Sophie was captivating. I wanted to just scream at Rafe for most of the book. It all worked out in the end. I'll read more from this author.

Thoroughly enjoyable read. Good storyline, albeit rather stretching the credibility (in a delightful way!), and mostly likeable characters.

Sophie and Rafe are made for one another. The instant attraction, understanding and humor are vividly described and sooo cute that I had to read this in nearly one go. Evidently not everything is sunshine and keeping secrets is never simple. But there are some things that are bigger issues than others…
As this book has an HEA, it’s clear they’ll overcome them. But how so, you have to read by yourself! Enjoy your read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice New Zealand novel
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 26, 2012
This book was lovely. I really enjoyed it. Like the book I previously reviewed, it was not my normal read but I really enjoyed the change.

The story of Sophie and Rafe was interesting and well rounded. The one sex scene was well written and refreshingly explicit without all the coarse words I get tired of reading.

I found Kris's interior design details interesting but one of the best things was her description of the New Zealand landscape. It is a country I've always wanted to visit and Kris made the beauty of the place easy to imagine.

Lastly, there were no proofreading or editing errors which is a big plus for me.

I highly recommend this wonderful, warm love story and unbelievably, it was free!

I bought the book because it was free; I hadn't read anything by this author and I was really pleased, I am looking forward to read more!
The story traps you at once, I couldn't put it down. Although the boat builder is a bit pushy, you cannot avoid fall for him, he is so hot and sensual, sparks fly, and he is always doing little things for Sophie, caring for her: he helps her to put on her jacket pulling out her hair and giving her a kiss on her nape, he brings her coffee in the morning... how possibly could she resist?
    I highly recommend it.
