Walk the Cleveland Way: Accommodation, Attractions and Advice Kindle Edition

3.4 out of 5 stars 11 ratings

The Cleveland Way is a horseshoe-shaped 109 mile footpath in North Yorkshire. The first part of the route takes the walker across remote moorland and, in contrast, the second half follows the coast through bustling seaside towns. Both sections contain interesting attractions that give the rambler a break from constant walking. This short book (29 pages) is designed to help walkers planning a holiday around The Cleveland Way. It includes details of accommodation, tourist attractions, tea shops and restaurants plus some information about the route. The book is based around a 10 day walk along The Cleveland Way by the author in August 2013 and includes website details to enable current prices, opening hours etc. to be checked prior to departure.Use the information provided to:
  • Arrange to have your luggage moved whilst you walk with only a daysack
  • Book bed and breakfast accommodation
  • Discover historical sites along the footpath
  • Find somewhere to eat or have a cup of tea
Sally Jenkins is an enthusiastic long distance walker and has successfully completed several long distance one day challenge walks including The Charnwood Marathon, Malvern Midsummer Marathon, and The Birmingham Canal Canter. Sally has also walked the Llyn Peninsula Coastal Path (Edge of Wales Walk) - a 95 mile route from Caernarfon to Porthmadog.

    Well written concise guide.
Sadly events have overtaken the book as it is sadly. Badly, out of date. Many of the establishments listed are no more. Others have sprung up.

An update is overdue. Sorry to say.

This book gives suggestions for places to stay along the Cleveland Way National Trail and information regarding where to find refreshments on the walk. It states that it is not a route guide - but it does give some brief information about the route for each section.
I referred to the book whilst walking the inland part of the walk ( Helmsley to Saltburn). I didn't require information on accommodation, so I mainly used it to get the heads-up on the refreshment stops. I also used the other information on interesting places to visit.
This type of book is useful, but not always 100% reliable. I found one place at Kildale had closed, and another two refreshment stops that's not mentioned in the book - what a bonus!

An excellent book for anyone planning to walk the Cleveland Way; full of useful information, and beautifully written - a perfect companion to take on the walk. I'm amazed that Sally was able to note it all down while doing the walk!
