I read about 100 books a year and it has been a while since I was so touched by a book (series).
I started with Book 1 bought in 7-pack. It was very original, but I was still hesitating whether I would like to read more. Then Chasing Spirits - very nice book, but still it didn't kick in. But eventually I started to read Book 2 and I was immediately sucked in. After finishing I was left begging for more and I already started think a lot about possible continuation and potential outcomes.
All the books (Book1-3, Chasing spirits, At last goodbye) form a fantastic series, a single book read will be nice, but may disappoint you. The power is in how all those books wind and meander together.
It is a fantastic read - sometimes very serious, sometimes very touching. I love the author's style and word selection. Ah, you just have to read it!

I'll be honest, I skipped the 2nd in the series "Chasing Spirits", when I read the reviews that stated it was a stand alone, and not necessary to continue with the story of James. Don't get me wrong, I'll go back to read that, but plan to wait until the rest of the series is done, as a few reviews said that "Chasing Spirits" would be better as a finale. Besides, I'm more interested in James' story than Reg's.

Anyway, this book was great. Like the previous review said, it really starts to show you who James is. It is an immediate continuation of the 1st book. It is, however, way too short. I finished it in just a couple of hours. That was disappointing. Especially considering that "The Corridor" is not out yet!

There were quite a few typos--rogue apostrophes, missing apostrophes, missing capitalization. etc. Not horrid, but enough to get on my nerves. I wish you could edit personal copies of Kindle books!

All in all, a good book. Anxiously awaiting the finale!

Things change drastically in this book, much more syfi and less macabre. Diary of the Displaced, book 2 The Broken Lands, keeps the pages turning. We start to find out who James Holldon really is threw a number of flashback scenes. They fill in his memory and give us a back story. We meet some new characters in this book (some that actually breath) And are left with an almost literal cliff hanger. I enjoyed the book, it didn't feel as full of a story as the first book, but I couldn't put it down, and that's what we want isn't it. A riveting page turner that leaves you wanting more.

Second book in the series and so far I have not been disappointed for even a moment. Vivid writing with some very great and mindbending ideas. I absolutely adore DogThing and I have to say when I started reading the first one I really didn't think this series was gonna go where it did. Pleasantly surprised.

This book is a continuation of the story told in "Diary Of The Displaced", but it has a much different feel.

Much of what was left unexplained in the first book is revealed in this one, and the answers are quite a bit different than I expected them to be.

Without giving too much away, the first was more of a survival horror novel and this one is more of a science fiction adventure novel, but they are both good and exciting reads.

It's rather like the difference between Dan O'Bannon's "Alien" and James Cameron's "Aliens", same universe, same character, but very different feel.

Highly recommended, but read the other one first.

"The Broken Lands" is the 4th in a series of books that follow James Halldon and friends through the strange and wonderfully written lands of the "Displaced". The previous books: "Diary of the Displaced - Journal of James Halldon", "Chasing Spirits - The memoirs of Reginald Weldon", and "Whispers of the Displaced" can all be read in any order you like, while The Broken Lands pulls all the seemingly unrelated threads of the other books together in one great tome of fantasy and legend that will leave your mind twirling with the implications and absolutely begging for more, and more can be assured of by this ingenious and prolific writer. Read then all, but save "The Broken Lands" for last (until the followup arrives). You will be blessed with one of the finest written stories you will ever read. It would also make an outstanding screenplay. Miss it at your loss.

Loved that this book explained more of James' past, and introduced us to new characters. It's so easy to find yourself in this world (or worlds!), that I can't stop turning the electronic page. I'm off to the next adventure! See you in a day or two, in this world or another!

Does not happen very much in Part 2, a typically between book.
But as the first and last book is really good you just have to plow through it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A key book in the series.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 25, 2012
Following on from Diary of the Displaced and Chasing Spirits, and related to Whispers of the Displaced, this story brings together many of the loose threads from these stories. Featuring familiar characters such as James Halldon, DogThing, and Reg Weldon, you really need to have read the previously mentioned stories to get the most out of this book.

Once again Glynn James takes us to stange post-apocalyptic lands where most of the population have been wiped out. Featuring part zombie fiction, part dark fantasy, and part science fiction this story had plenty to keep me turning the pages.

I don't want to mention too much about the story as this really is a key book in the series that ties together many of the seemingly unrelated events and characters from the previous books.

Overall: 4 stars - An highly enjoyable story that has me once again looking forward to the next in the series - but do read the others in the series first.

The sequel to Diary of the displaced, I am 3/4 through the ebook and I am not disappointed in it, it is as addictive, maybe more so than it's prequel, in fact I am getting almost nervous about getting to the end incase this is the final. Thanks Glynn, another brilliant read.
