We pick up the story far in the future, following James Halldon's great grandson. He finds out that the story of his mother's death may not be as simple as the authorities would like him to believe (if you recall, she was intent on finding on finding Gramps & Co).

It is a slow and steady introduction, plenty of callbacks to previous books and more world building in this giant universe that we only have a small peek of thus far. Things pick up at the end as Conor is forced to make his decisions and choose a path.

As the review title says, the past is alive...but for me, I'm waiting to see just how alive it might truly be...

Understand where my 5 stars are coming from. This is excellent escapist lit. I mean that in all sincerity. I was initially disappointed that the story didn't continue in a linear fashion from the 3rd book. (That's all I'll say, no spoilers here.) But I quickly got sucked in. I've traded emails with Glynn, he was kind enough to answer about his co-written Arisen series. This is a fantastic 4th entry in the series. If you're new, don't start here. There's an omni us of t h e first 3 out there.

I found this book to be rather slow moving, yet still interesting enough to keep my attention. Worth the read.

I just finished Book 4, and I'm horrified to find I must wait for the next installment! Write quickly and well, Mr. James! Your fans eagerly await. Guess I'll start "Thrown Away" as I tap my foot in anticipation...

Let me start by saying that I really loved the first 3 books and had high hopes for the 4th even though it took more than 2 and 1/2 years for it to come out. Shameful that it took so long. I was really hoping that it would follow up on the ending of the 3rd book so we could find out what happened to Dogthing, Greyfoot and of course the humans but it didn't. Instead it jumped way into the future to follow the great grandson. The book itself was well written and held on to me. The length was extremely short. Only 124 pages. You would think that after 2 1/2 years it would be longer but nope it is not. I gave it 3 stars because of its length, the length of time it took for the author to write it, and the fact it did not continue from book 3. I just hope we won't have to wait another 2 1/2 years for book 5 and when it does come out it will be much longer than 124 pages.

Excellent story. There is a lot of action, mysteries, and adventure in this story. The main character is very interesting and so is his ghost. I need the rest of this series.

1.0 out of 5 stars What is going on?

There were so many spelling errors and grammatical mistakes throughout the book I couldn't follow along with what the heck was going on! Not to mention the random plot points like nanobots and time warping that come out of nowhere. If the goal was to keep the reader guessing I suppose it hit the mark but not in the right way

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent adventure!

The fourth story in the Diary of the Displaced series and this one jumps a generation from where the previous one finished but does so in such a way as to tell us what happened without us reading the story. More brilliantly written characters and non stop thrills. I will definitely be following Glynn James and buying all of his work.
