Dream by the Fire: (A Fire and Fury Holiday Novella) Kindle Edition
Raised by an alcoholic mother after her father's death, Christmas never held much joy for her. But Scott wants to change all that for his bride-to-be. His only goal is to show her the season can still be full of joy and light.
However, in spite of Scott's best efforts, nothing goes according to plan. The holiday season is shaping up to be a disaster. That is, until a stranger unexpectedly bestows upon him the one gift that could be the miracle he needs to save Christmas.
Tori stopped believing in miracles a long time ago. Can Scott finally restore her long-lost faith in the holiday season?
Dream by the Fire is a 27,000 word Christmas novella and an extension of Scott and Tori’s trilogy, (but can be read as a standalone). It contains adult language, and steamy scenes by the fire and a happy holiday ending to warm your heart. Meant for a mature audience.

About the author

Avery Kingston writes sexy, emotional romance featuring wounded characters at a high heat level.
Avery is a wife to a man who’s demons play well with hers. Mom to a slew of crazy kids. Dog lover. Crazy cat lady. Artist. Free spirit. Lover of unusual beauty. Fitness junkie. Collector of boots and fonts. Angsty drama addict and avid wearer of yoga pants.
Avery is a military wife and a sucker for a good wounded hero story. She set out to write stories where the leading characters were smart, sexy, confident and strong. Avery began writing the type of romance novels she would want to read. Stories about real couples, wounded either physically or emotionally, with an open door into their steamy bedroom.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2018This was just what I needed to read after going through the amazing emotional rollercoaster of BURN FOR YOU! Such a sweet tale of Scott trying everything in his power to make Christmas special for Tori. The poor girl has never had a good Christmas, and their first Christmas together proves to be challenging due to pretty much everything going wrong. Reading about all the crazy and frustrating (and funny!) problems they encountered was so entertaining. I honestly could relate to a lot of it--it seems like loads of things like to go wrong during Christmas, it is SO annoying!
But Scott has an amazing surprise for Tori...pretty much the most thoughtful Christmas gift he could possibly give her. Seriously, when he gave her his gift (I won't spoil what it is, you need to read it!), I teared up! It was so incredibly thoughtful and touching :D
And of course, Tori gives him an equally thoughtful gift that she spent weeks on and it's just the perfect thing for him. It was so satisfying to read these two enduring a typical stressful holiday season together, yet still carve out their own happy ending. After all they've been through, they deserve this super amazing Christmas :D
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2018Christmas time with Scott and Tori is quite an adventure! For being a novella this is packed with so much drama that only Avery can give and has you laughing and crying within the same chapter.
I FREAKING LOVED IT!!
Their Christmas does not go as planned but nothing in life ever does. Scott wants to make this Christmas one of Tori's most memorable for her since her childhood was not. I love that Scott loves Tori and wants to see her happy. The shopping for Christmas stuff... Didn't see that coming, poor Scott. The things we never think about, but has consequences. Getting a glimpse into their lives during the holidays and what can happen when your crazy friends come over. 😂😂
The thought that goes into each other's gifts made me tear up, I really loved it. They truly get each other.
I still don't like Maureen, there I said it!! Just nope!!
But most of all we get to catch up with everyone.Blaze definitely makes an impact wherever he is. Lol!! Blaze is definitely one of a kind!! (Can't wait for his story)
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2020Please note: this says that it can be read as a standalone and it can... but I don't recommend that. I feel like a missed a ton.
And based on a few things, I'm definitely intrigued and I'll most likely go back and read their whole story.
In all, it was good. But like I said, I felt a little lost in a couple parts.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2018What a amazing addition to Scott and Tori’s story. A perfect mix of emotions that had me laughing, crying and feeling the love that shows so immensely with these two, their friends and their family.
I love a good Christmas story and this Novella was just what the season needed. This was another piece of their journey that has been fabulous to get to read. A journey that is never boring and full of entertainment that I love so much. It also has some tender moments that get to your heart but make it that much more special.
I am truly happy to have had the chance to read this book and think Avery did a tremendous job. What a way to start off the holiday season, as well as show us more into the lives and future coming together for Scott and Tori. Thank you for a amazing book, I hope everyone takes the time to read and Happy Holidays!❤️🌲🎁
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2018I love Tori and Scott, and was not disappointed with this holiday read!
We get to see snippets of new holiday traditions with this gang. All my loved side characters were seen!
In true Avery Kingston form, I was warmed up with her writing. There’s always something new I learn about this beloved couple. To be able to see them continue to grow and love each other fiercely is what I love about this series. You see their struggles, which we all know happens during the holidays. We also see each character move past that struggle and lean on one another. Which I think is what the holidays are all about. Being surrounded by family and friends you can lean on. That’s what I got here.
Although a stand-alone novella in the Fire and Fury series, I do recommend reading from the beginning to enjoy everything more fully.
Now I’ll be waiting my man Blaze ;)
- Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2019Dream by the Fire was a perfect Christmas read. It is part of the Fire and Fury series, and the books are not a stand-alone series. However, I have not yet read the third book, and I don't feel as though it affected this story.
Okay, so the holidays are over, but this one will keep you warm all winter long. Give it a go, if you love stories with heart and steam.
I'd recommend this novella to romance loves, that like MCs with an edge to them. This isn't a sweet romance, but it will make you smile — my other suggestion to at least read the first book before picking up this one. I don't think you'd be lost if you don't, but you will appreciate the story and the characters issues and struggles better.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2023I just loved getting this holiday novella for Tori and Scott! I can't get enough of this couple, and to get more of Scott trying to make life even better for Tori was wonderful. Absolutely loved it!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2019Great christmas novella with our two favorite characters. I snuggled up with my pj’s on, a glass of wine and cozy fire and this put me in the perfect mood for Christmas!
If you liked this but haven’t read the other books in the series make sure you check em out. They are fantastic and one of my alltime favorite series! The first is Chasing Fire (the Fire and Fury series)
