A glimpse into life in a castle and the world in which it would be necessary.

A sweet story of love, stubborn hero and a wise heroine. Villains and other great supporting characters.

Another great book by Kaitlynn Clarkson. Emma is the daughter of Jehan de Bessay, a merchant. Her father taught her to read, write & do math so Emma helps her father with his storeroom. The noblemen also respect and buy goods from Jehan including Comte Geoffrey with his son, Gilbert. Gilbert and Emma become fast friends. The years go by and Emma continues working with her father instead of marrying. She loves Gilbert but she knows that they can’t be married because they are from different society classes. Emma’s father goes on a trip to acquire more merchandise but after 6 months, they realize he’s not returning. Eventually there’s nothing left for Emma to sale so with her mother and 2 younger brothers they sale and buy a small house with some land to survive. Gilbert and Emma remains best friends but Comte Geoffrey tries to force Gilbert to marry another to make strong alliances. Gilbert refuses stating he loves Emma. Can love bridge the gap between society classes? .

The story begins sort of slow with Emma younger than Gilbert who's noble birth but they begin a sort of friendship, which they finally desire to marry which isn't allowed due to differences in the classes.

A quick cute read of crossing class boundaries and persistent love and hard work. This is a quick and quite an easy novella to read.

Gilbert and Emma are meant to be together, but will they? From different stations of class, they are not to marry let alone be friends but tell that to the two of them. As you read this book you feel the emotions of the characters where you forget you are reading, you are living in this time with them.First time reader of this author but it sure won't be the last. Off to book two in this series and just take a chance and start to read, I bet before you know it you are drawn into the story and you're at the end before you know it, that's what happened to me!

I throughly enjoyed reading this story. Emma and Gilbert meet at a young age. They were from different classes but love doesn't know the difference. Gilbert's dad wants him to marry to make strong alliances, however Gilbert is having none of it. Our main characters go through much to be together. Read this story to see if, and how they overcome the challenges.
