How to Talk to Nice English Girls: a lesbian historical romance Kindle Edition
In the aftermath of The Great War, everything is changing.
But not for Marian Fielding.
Marian’s life is quiet and predictable in the solitude of the English countryside, where she plans to remain. But Marian’s world is turned upside down when she meets brash, confident Katherine Fuller.
Katherine arrives at the Fieldings’ family estate for the wedding of Marian’s sister and immediately shakes things up. Instead of keeping the ill-mannered American girl out of trouble, Marian finds herself magnetically drawn to Katherine’s vivacious nature, and they are swept into a whirlwind romance that will change both of their lives.
Katherine's unconventional behavior and the pull of Marian's old life threaten their chance at happiness together. But these two women from different worlds will find a way to be together against all odds and expectations.
How to Talk to Nice English Girls is a steamy historical romance and is a standalone novel with plenty of heat and a definite HEA!

About the author

Gretchen Evans is a bisexual, cis woman living with her partner in North Carolina. Her day job involves figuring out the best way to ask people questions they don’t want to answer. In the evenings, she does hot yoga and watches any TV show that can be read as queer-coded. She only drinks beer disguised as root beer and her perfect Sunday involves half listening to an NFL game as she reads a book. She plans to continue writing queer romance with engaging characters, sexy times, and feelings.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2022What a fantastic book! Written beautifully with great characters and dialogues. The character development and how they grow together throughout the years is done well. Touching of a period that was hard time to be who they are but in the end, love prevails.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2019I was really excited when I found out about this book because, while there is a lot of queer historical romance being published right now, there's A sad lack of lesbian historical romance coming out. So this book gets my thumbs up for that alone. It is a fast, sweet read with a few rough edges. Marian feels a little more one dimensional and feels real list stick, even coming from an old fashioned titled family. I would have liked a few more glimpses into her world, a few views of things she remembers or things she likes or things she wishes for even if she thinks she can't have them. I also would have liked to have seen things through her eyes and other senses a little more, rather than just hearing her thoughts. But, the romance here is perfectly lovely and sweet - but not too sweet! There is plenty of steam, and plenty of self discovery along the way. I think the epilogue might be my favorite part of the book. Lots of tenderness and humor there, and a lovely flow to the prose that was missing in other parts of the book. Overall, though, this was a satisfying read and gets plenty of extra kudos from me just for bucking the queer romance novel trend and bringing us a lovely growing relationship between two young women.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2022This novella took me by surprise. I was a little hesitant in the beginning, feeling like the language didn’t match the setting or the time period and that I needed more in terms of descriptions and details. I still believe those are two things that could be improved on, however Katherine and Marian were so lovely. I was charmed.
Both women—and their relationship—were beautiful and it was wonderful to read about their growth as individuals and as an eventual couple. The author did a beautiful job with the intimate scenes and the amount of sentiment written in between the lines.
A truly lovely read. I wish I could experience it again for the first time.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2024This was a great light read! While the story was a bit predictable, it kept me hooked and given how a lot of Sapphic Romances end, I am super happy with how this story concluded, and the Epilog was a nice bonus.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2019This is a charming novel with admirable characters, fiery chemistry, and genuine sweetness. Because I l liked it so much, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop while I was reading. But it never disappointed. A certified romance!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2020This novel has an interesting premise and the story line held great promise, but the writing isn't very good. The protagonist, who is supposedly a decidedly straight young woman, seems to be lusting immediately when she meets her guest. The dialogue feels contrived. It could have been so much better.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2020Sweet story with many chapters of well developed hot sex between these two wonderful characters. Enjoy it throughly and will re read again.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2021I loved the story. Characters felt real and were well developed. The ending felt rushed and didn’t seem to fit the pace of rest of the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
I've always enjoyed historical romance and it's sooo much nicer to be able to read them with a context of women loving women and also not be doom and gloom, I don't for one second think it would have been easy, but for so many women to have not married and living with a companion, if that's not working the system I don't know what is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ein Hauch von Downton Abbey

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read
I suprised myself by really enjoying this book. As for all good lesfic, the characterisation kept me reading. I would very much enjoyed meeting this couple, at any age. Perhaps there should be a series written based around their lives.
