Far Beyond Destiny A Supernatural Science Fiction Thriller is a story that managed to immerse me in this unreal and utopian world that is linked to the concept of religious paradise, migration to the fifth dimension, disruptive technologies in short, an amazing journey inside and outside From the human mind here is a futuristic science fiction story, centered around the protagonist Sam Booth, the greatest and richest man in America, a tycoon and media genius. Together with Gabriel Eagleman, they are trying to come up with a beautiful and dangerous concept or idea depending on how you look at it. An idea that could change the future existence of the human race. where does genetic manipulation come in, alteration of brain functioning, of the perception of the senses.
To carry out this project, he hires Abe Spitzer, the most important film director in Hollywood, his production assistant, Malcolm Preminger, along with Vanessa Valenzuela, Malcolm's classmate in film school, and his film star, Brian Deerfield, to produce a documentary-type film. When they meet Mr. Booth, they realize that the organization he works for, INS, has close connections to the Pentagon, the CIA, and Washington. The events, horrors and tragedies that appear in the script and the human experience have been manipulated from the beginning and reality is not what it claims to be. It depends on Malcolm, Vanessa, I really liked Vanessa's character, her impressions and thoughts, their nostalgic evocation in the Napa Valley where they are torn between their childhood and a possible future reality and Brian make a very bold decision where they risk everything for everything, or simply to achieve a simple mirage that will lead them to death.
During the reading I felt a great variety of emotions, fear, hope, nostalgia, it is a formidable reading that makes you daydream and activates the imagination in a surprising way. And it takes you back in time, as if you were living in the past or perhaps in another dimension.
I would enthusiastically recommend this book to anyone who enjoys science fiction novels, conspiracy theories, parallel worlds, immersive technologies, and the like. really entertaining, a story of suspense, fantasy, where we reflect on the scope of human experimentation, where reality and the illusion of it are touched.

Brian, a very talented actor, and Malcolm, a gifted CGI animator, both recent film school graduates, receive the opportunity of a lifetime to work with a world-renowned film director, Abe Spitzer, and his investor, Sam Yalta Booth. But very quickly they realize something was amiss regarding the “unique documentary” they are working on. Their first night in the house (more like mansion) they are staying in while filming, Malcolm was attacked by a creature which Brian had to shoot to scare away. They also noticed the scenes they were shooting started becoming news reports of “outworld” attacks. Vanessa is also recently graduated with Brian and Malcolm from film school and is an aspiring director, working mostly on documentaries. She is chosen, as well, to direct these new unique documentaries. As soon as the three of them meet with Mr. Booth, they become aware of everything his company has been responsible for and the façade that was put up for the public. He claims the new documentaries are for the good of the people, to get them moving in one direction. Once people are scared enough of the attacks, they will demand the new drug that is being produced to “protect from the outworld attacks.” Mr. Booth and his company, INS, have been behind the scenes of every major tragedy and event that has happened in the past, including the moon landing (or the creation of the moon landing in the film studios). With their boss orchestrating an enormous farce over the nation, what are three young friends to do?

This book takes you on a supernatural rollercoaster from the beginning to the end. The characters are well thought out and expressive. Brian was my favorite, he was kind, smart, and talented but also insecure. He takes charge when needed and stays humble. I do think parts of the story were flooded with adjectives, I would get lost in the sentences trying to remember what was being described by so many words. It takes away from the already complex storyline and distracts the reader. Once you get through that, you are eager to find out what happens. It takes all the conspiracy theories you have heard of and represents them in an almost believable story. This is a good book for anyone who enjoys a supernatural thriller.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can readily imagine a graphic novel or film adaptation
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 15, 2022
Stephen Perkins' enjoyment of descriptive prose comes through strong from the get-go in this one, with a distinctive personal style—a lot of “noun’s adjectival noun” constructions; a person does not cry; dread’s bitter tears snake regret’s coursing memories down their ashen-toned face, perhaps.

A lot of the feel of the work is reminiscent of what one might find in a graphic novel; I’d not be surprised if Perkins might cite Frank Miller as an influence. This may appeal more to some readers than to others.

Because the focus tends to be mostly on the events and scenes at hand, character development is where it seems the budget cut was made, and so we don’t get to enjoy our main characters as much as we otherwise might, for instance, and by the end of the book we still don’t know them well enough to not be surprised—in my case at least—by some casually revealed perspectives and behaviours that weren’t actually out of character, they just seemed that way because they didn’t have enough character to be out of, and I’d errantly projected a reasonable set of human values onto them in the absence of such.

All in all, if you like focus on scenes and action without being hampered by complex dialogue or detailed characterisation, preferring the sheer spectacle of it all, you’ll probably enjoy this book.

It's quite a male perspective here which at times was a bit uncomfortable. But there is some good prose here capturing a certain atmosphere that a certain reader will enjoy immensely.
