Editorial Reviews
Review
- A fresh new novel on the human condition, this is a story, told without pretense, that challenges cherished beliefs in the purpose of life. Shruti has an elegant style with many lyrical passages and the story flows like a poem. - Professor Subhash Kak, Regents Professor at Oklahoma State University and Vedic scholar
- Maya is the protagonist, the 'I', who travels, pausing, taking steps ahead, back, sprinting backwards in fleeting thoughts, at different destinations, cities, towns and self... She compels you to hear (not read), her seamless conversation. She compels you to follow the traveler. She keeps knocking on your mind, softly; tap-tap-tap; knowing that her Maya is, or could be, you. - Creative India magazine

- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2017This novel is about a young woman's disillusionment with the glitter of life in the world of finance in Paris. A crisis forces her to turn her gaze inwards which leads to a questioning of the assumptions on which her life was based. As the scales fall, she finds deeper aesthetic liberations, and she sees things in light she did not know existed. She turns to yoga and returns to India where she meets her spiritual master and other wise teachers. The narrative builds up to a wonderful epiphany in the last chapters. Shruti has an elegant style with many lyrical passages and the story flows like a poem.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2017Dior to Dharma is as cute as the title! I really love a book that is both entertaining as well as thought-provoking. There is much wisdom to glean here. Thank you, Shruti, for your gift to us.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2017Good summary of self discovery.
Good observations on Indian and Western culture .
Wish there were references at the end .
- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2017It is a simple story without many intricate plots. Besides the content and messages (a search for meaning and fulfillment in life) which alone should qualify this novel as a good read, the writer's analytic bent of mind is also at display for all situations, characters, and events are analyzed psychologically in their proper contexts.
The ending is somewhat abrupt which may be the indication that I actually liked it and wanted the story to continue for a while. The language is beautiful, the imagination vivid, and the perspectives balanced. I see a great storyteller in the offing.
For those who are not sure whether to buy this book, my suggestion is - go ahead, you won't repent.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read for someone seeking answers about life and its purpose.
This book is a must read for those who would like to seek something more meaningful out of their lives than to just pursue ‘life-goals’.
Maya, the main character from the book has done well academically after which she gets the opportunity to work with renowned financial companies. But as she is going ahead in pursuing her career, certain unexpected events occur which make her question the existence of life and in seeking answers she visits a number of places and meets people who help her in understanding what life truly is.
The ending is very beautifully worded and would definitely strike a chord within.
In short, would be a wonderful read for someone who is seeking answers about life and its purpose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breath of fresh air read ..
A truly beautiful piece of work by Shruti that journeys through Maya’s metamorphosis ...
I love the way, Shruti gives personality and meaning to all beings, animals, seasons and even transport infrastructures around the world ..!
There’s so much to learn and understand, that is quite a steep understanding process for the likes of me. However, it’s intertwined with humour, experiences + concepts that most people can relate or resonate with, which makes it a really fun and enjoyable read whilst understanding Maya’s spiritual plight.
Even though the book is a work of fiction, I haven’t read anything that’s feels so real and raw ...
Thank you Shruti for sharing such a beautiful piece of work with us !
Looking forward to more reads 🧡🧡
