- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2021I stumbled across this writer on youtube. Somebody had done an illustration to one of his stories. It was such a fantastic story I had to get more from this author. At the end of the video they told me where to buy this book and here I came! I've only read the first story in this book. The depths. It's fantastic. I haven't read a book in years that has made me so excited to turn the page. I was nearly trembling to get to the next page and my anxiety was freaking out to see what would happen next. I love this author. I hope to get more books from him. Now I'm going to get back to the second story. If you're thinking about buying this book I highly suggest it.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2025This was a really good assortment of short stories. The first one if they expanded it would be an excellent novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2022I absolutely adored this anthology. Not only were the stories terrifying, but there were so many times where I read a passage with so much depth and intensity, I had to stop and take a minute to process.
The variety was fantastic - so many different topics and types of horror - but I also loved the connections made between some of the stories.
Go read it!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2022These stories were very interesting and it was hard to put the book down. What I liked the most were how two stories intertwined in different times in the book. I will be reading the others in the series!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2021FROM THE DEPTHS: TERRIFYING TALES by Richard Saxon is a mix of fan favorites and never-before-published exclusives...
THE OCEAN IS MUCH DEEPER THAN WE THOUGHT: terrifying creature feature with fantastic suspense involving the Tonga Trench
I WOKE UP DURING SURGERY. THEY WEREN'T TRYING TO SAVE ME: a sci-fi flash fiction piece
WE HAVE BEEN GUARDING AND EMPTY ROOM FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS. TODAY WE FOUND SOMETHING INSIDE: somewhat predictable with a rather dark ending
I'M A PSYCHIATRIST THAT DEALS WITH THE SUPERNATURAL: a unique twist on possession
MY JOB IS TO WATCH PEOPLE DIE: something much different than a grim reaper tale
THE RUSSIANS DUG THE WORLD'S DEEPEST HOLE. NOW I KNOW WHY: one of my favorites, a sinister combo of science fiction and horror
IF THE SKY GOES DARK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY, HIDE: another favorite, a mind-blowing mix of science fiction and horror, kind of like Ray Bradbury and HP Lovecraft tripping out together in the woods
THEY LOCKED DOWN THE HOSPITAL I'M STAYING AT: one of the most horrifying stories in the collection, with extremely grotesque abominations
STAY AWAY FROM THE OCEAN. IT ISN'T SAFE ANYMORE: a creature feature with a tragic ending
EVERY YEAR ON MY BIRTHDAY, I HAVE TO DIE: like an episode of Twilight Zone, not necessarily scary, but extremely disturbing
A MAN KNOCKED ON MY DOOR AT MIDNIGHT, HE GAVE ME A HORRIBLE CHOICE: this one made me really angry, not happy with the abrupt ending at all
MY FAVORITE TWITCH STREAMER JUST DIED. HE'S STILL ONLINE: one of the most frightening explanations of the afterlife
MY OLD HOME VIDEOS SHOWED ME A LIFE I NEVER LIVED: by the time I reached this story and finished reading it, I began to wonder how the author lives with such morbid creations in his head
I HAVEN'T SLEPT IN 3 MONTHS: a supernatural flash fiction piece, another favorite
RAINFALL: much longer than the others, depressing as hell and a terrible reminder of current events
I FREED AN UNKNOWN ENTITY FROM AN ABANDONED MINE. I'M SO SORRY: has a connection to one of the earlier stories and I freaking LOVE it
ANGELS AREN'T BEAUTIFUL: a coming of age story colored with pain and suffering
ARBOR VITAE: absolutely tragic flash fiction
LISTEN TO THE SOUNDS OF YOUR OWN EXTINCTION: another one connected ever so slightly to a previous story
Not strictly a horror collection, but every story is entertaining in its own way.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2021I'm drowning in Richard Saxon's rich, sexy prose. "From the Depths," is to aquatic horror fiction what the kama sutra was to lovemaking: it simply elevates the art. If you like Lovecraft, Wicked Tuna, Jaws, or Finding Nemo, then you'll love "From the Depths."
When you dive into the dark, don't feel surprised when you find things better left unknown.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2021First came across one of his stories narrated on YouTube and from there delved deeper into his work. So much potential. I like how some of the stories hint at an interconnected universe. It has libertarian undertones while being unique and still having that creepy pasta kind of feel. Highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2021One of my favorite authors for creepy, unsettling horror short stories! I was so excited to see this collection, and am really loving it . If you’re a fan of bite-sized chillers, you can’t go wrong with this collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stupendous
Among the best short fiction I've had the pleasure of reading, Richard Saxon's collection of dark tales is difficult to put down. Each dark tale pulls you into its orbit and keeps you there as it peels back the curtain on a world full of shocking twists and haunting conclusions. It's an anthology not to be missed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely recommended
NO SPOILERS
As an avid reader of classic horror fiction, I was sceptical at first whether modern horror stories would appeal to me. The ocean theme, that the title suggests, drew my attention to this marvelleous book. "Dagon" by H.P. Lovecraft is one of my favourite horror stories, so my expectations were high.
To cut it short - I enjoyed these stories a lot. They are enthralling and well plotted.
Expert knowledge about the ocean and its inhabitants is scatterd throughout the whole book.
There are other great aspects I can not mention here without spoilering, unfortunately.
I'm looking forward to your next release!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spannende Kurzgeschichte in einfachem Englisch
Sehr spannend geschrieben, relativ große Schriftzeichen. Ist einfach zu lesen, auch wenn Englisch nicht die Muttern ist. Empfehlenswert für Spannungs- und Horrorfans.
