Gavin's Song: A Last Riders Trilogy (Road to Salvation Book 1) Kindle Edition
Well, this is it…
Gavin had believed himself untouchable. There wasn’t an inch of his body that hadn’t been taught to eliminate any threat, both to himself and others, as a Navy SEAL. Not only had he been trained to be a warrior, but a strategist who could accomplish any mission that he was given…
Until the day he was blindsided by a brother with his own agenda and was forced to accept that everything he had believed in had been an illusion.
An illusion that he was capable of love.
An illusion of the woman who had kept him sane during his darkest days.
An illusion that The Last Riders would always have his back.
Now he was being forced to accept the man they had created. A man who didn’t care about anything or anyone, living a life without reason, joy, or peace. A soul so broken that it couldn’t be fixed, searching for the one reason to keep himself breathing.
How was he supposed to know it was a song?

- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2019This Last Riders series has been an up and down roller coaster for me. Some books I loved, some not so much but Gavin’s Song will stay with me forever 💔. I knew this would be a hard read for me because of the triggers but my anxiety was at an all time high while reading it. My heart is broken for Gavin, it was just to much and it went on for far to long. I skimmed multiple chapters because my heart couldn’t deal 😫😩😭😭😭 I was emotionally wrung out. I had to put this book down and read something less intense before I was able to come back to it but it was well worth it. This book was awesome; it blew my mind, it was so good to see Reaper continue to fight to get his life back “on track” and I loved catching up with the other Last Riders characters. Ginny’s story was just background noise for me 🤷🏽♀️; when she was a kid it was interesting but as she got older her story lulled.
Then drumroll please 🥁 🥁 the part that we’ve all been waiting for they finally meet 😍🥰🥰🥰👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 WHOOOHOOO!!!! 🗣🗣🗣AND THEN IT ENDS 😫😫😫 like WTF 😩😩😩 say it ain’t so Jamie Begley whyyyy would you do this to us???? Man listen go get this book and thank me later but be warned... get your tissues, some wine, and just hold on. Great read! So dope!

- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2020I have followed you since the beginning when Razer's Ride first came out. I will follow you to the end, no matter what! Not only do I love your characters but I have to be honest I find you inspirational and beautifully Brilliant! You don't know me but I wanted you to know that. Thank you for allowing me to spend time with you and those that you hold close. I can not ever say it enough. You actually saved my life with your stories. You are someone who doesn't realize the power you hold when it comes down to it although I believe you not only write for yourself but for all of us to. Thank you for your wonderful words and for shining my world just a bit brighter than before. I have and will always support you. Again Thank Mrs. Begley. I know that you have been doing this for awhile but you have a phenomenally courageous team that helps you and I hope that you continue to write more. I will ALWAYS be here to read and invest in you. So I will graciously say again THANK YOU JAMIE BEGLEY!

By the way I thought Shade was my favorite but I think my heart has a new favorite and he comes tatted from head to toe, he is a broody and a bent beast of a man but never broken.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2021"Road to Salvation" Trilogy Rating: 4.25 stars
Gavin's Song Book Rating: 4 stars
Note: I'm including my reviews for all three books in this trilogy, because it's not a trilogy in the sense that most romance ones are, it's basically one extremely long book about the same couple. You should NOT read the 2nd book without reading the 1st, or the 3rd without the 1st and 2nd—these are cliffhanger books.
BOOK ONE: Gavin's Song (4 stars)
{ Life wasn’t fair. It was like a river that was just there—no rhyme or reason. It didn’t have feelings, didn’t care that every living thing needed it to survive, yet it would share its wealth or be as stingy as a miser. It could turn on you indiscriminately, creating havoc at a moment’s notice, destroying lives and everything in its raging path. }
Gavin's Song kicks off this terrific trilogy and is definitely the hardest book to read emotionally. This book essentially leads up to the romance between Ginny and Gavin, and they only really meet for the first time at the very end of it. The book alternates between each of them, showing us different important points and periods of their lives.
Gavin is kidnapped and spends 10 years being emotionally, sexually, psychologically, and physically tortured and that period is not skimmed over, so it definitely earns a *trigger warning*. It was incredibly difficult for me to read parts of it, because it was so graphic and so horrible. But—of course—what Gavin goes through very much affects and shapes the person he is "now," so it didn't feel at all gratuitous to me, it's essential to understanding his motivations, problems, and thinking afterwards.
Ginny goes through her own difficulties, though if you've read some of the other books in The Last Riders series (I recommend all of them!), you're familiar with her and already know some of them. There's a big surprise about her origins though that come out here, and we find out that Ginny has in fact been in hiding almost all of her life because of something that happened when she was 3 years old. My disclosing this is not at all a spoiler (though the details about what would be, so I won't write any more about it).
Both Gavin and Ginny are such wonderful characters who have survived tremendous challenges and you really feel so much for them and are rooting for them so hard by the end of this book. At first, I was dismayed that basically none of their romance would exist in this book, but I quickly dismissed that while reading it and think it was very well done. We are so invested in them and their relationship in Books 2 and 3 because of all that we know about them from this book.
And as always, half the fun and joy (seriously) is The Last Riders themselves and seeing all the guys and their partners again; the friendship and true brotherhood among these characters is so wonderful and contributes to making it my favorite MC series. Not a bad book among them.
BOOK TWO: Reaper's Wrath (4.5 stars)
{ “We may be going in opposite directions, but we could both end up in the same place. I can wait for you to get there.” }
Reaper's Wrath is my favorite in the series, probably because it's the most focused, has the most complete arc of their romance, and if it weren't for Ginny's subplot the story could be wrapped up with this one (practically). Both Gavin and Ginny have their own "mystery subplots" and this one centers around Gavin's: revenge for his kidnapping and torture (hence the title) and him really coming to terms with what happened (though this very much continues on into Book 3 as well).
This picks up right when and where Book One dropped off and charts essentially their first meeting, up until they truly begin their relationship. Practically all her life, Ginny has been convinced that she has a soulmate out there and for a long time, she thought that something had happened to him, because she couldn't "feel" him anymore, so she thought he was dead and she would never meet him (this was during the period of Gavin's kidnapping). The minute she meets Gavin, she knows it's him, and he also has essentially the same reaction, though of course doesn't believe in all this soulmate crap, doesn't think himself a fit partner for anyone, etc., so is very resistant to all of Ginny's overtures. And lord are there many, lol.
Ginny is hysterical in this book and I have to give the girl props. She's a pretty self-contained person—she's had to be in her life—and the way she puts herself out there for Gavin and the bravery she shows is just plain fantastic and mind-blowing. I loved it. She is SO strident and certain in her conviction that he is her soulmate and is SO open about it, which of course freaks him out (as it would any guy, but Gavin especially so).
BOOK THREE: Reaper's Salvation (3.75 stars)
{ “My love doesn't have time limits. It's everlasting.”
Ginny could see the toxic train of thoughts that held him.
“Nothing lasts forever.”
“My love will.” }
Unfortunately, this was my least favorite in the series for a couple reasons (though you'll note I still gave it a good rating): Ginny's "mystery subplot" was a little weak and unbelievable, the story dragged at times and could have been wrapped up far sooner, and most disappointing of all, Ginny was annoying and immature at times. Up until this book, she had earned herself a spot on my Favorite Romance Heroines shelf, but I'm now torn and don't think she'll make it. She had a bit of the TSTL to her at various points in the book, and because I had loved her so much up until then, it was all the more frustrating. I won't go further into my first two reasons, since that would involve spoilers.
As I said, this centers around what happened when Ginny was three years old and why she's been hidden away since then. Part of the mystery is literally what did happen, because she herself doesn't remember some key points, which is part of the challenge.
This book also involves a lot of relationship development between Ginny and Gavin. As much emotional damage as these characters have and as many problems as they have to overcome, their love is 100% believable at the end because Begley really does show them overcoming all the main issues and being able to finally and fully come together as soulmates. And since they are "together" for all of this book, you really get to bask in the romance between them.
BOTTOM LINE
This was a terrific trilogy and if the last book had been a bit different, I would truly be raving about it. As I said at the beginning, this is basically one long book—don't try skipping ahead, it will make no sense and you will be cheating yourself. Begley has her own order to read all of her books, because there's a lot of overlap between them all, since they all exist in the same book universe, but that involves almost 30 books (with these three being the last ones). I would recommend that you read The Last Riders books first, but it is not necessary. They are fantastic though, so it's not a chore by any means. Note that I would categorize most of that series as Romantica, while the Ginny-Gavin trilogy is strictly CR. Finally, be aware that her books have a bunch of annoying typos—like, a truly uncommonly high number—but wow is she a good storyteller.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2019Wow! Bravo Jamie, Bravo. This book is a perfect mixture of all the feels and backstory!
From the prologue, to the middle when Gavin first saw and heard Ginny's voice, to the end when they finally meet.
The backstory flowed well and didn't shift from past to present and vise versa.
I don't want to give too much away on here, but if you're hesitant to read this. Don't be, Gavin's book was definitely worth the wait.
Now on to the part we as readers hate doing...the wait for book 2! Hopefully it will be here sooner rather than later;)
Side Note: Greer, Can we get more of him in book 2, please!!! As always, his character never fails to bring the laughs and a smile to my face :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gifted writer indeed!
I don’t have the words to describe your writing Jamie! You have the most gifted writing skills. How do you do it!
The book, although I predicted from reading previous Last Rider’s books of what may have Gavin been through over the year’s, it was still hard to digest from reading, but that’s what made it all the better. I don’t normally write reviews but I just wanted to commend Jamie and her story of Gavin. Thank you for a great read Jamie and looking forward to the next 2 books eagerly. Remy

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE IT !
I have been waiting for months for this book, kept on check on Amazon everyday for it. Ginny and Gavin are beautiful carachters, both strong and fragile at the same time. Their story so far is heart shattering, yet make you have faith in the future and its possibilities. From the first book the saga has been developing and adding more details, always keeping things interesting. The only issue now? I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK !

2.0 out of 5 stars Naja

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally amazing first book in trilogy
Honestly the best book so far from jamie begley and let me tell you every other book in this whole series is brilliant but this one oh my god cant wait for the next two books.this book has everything in it sad times plenty but what's good we get to see how these two people start off from on there journey towards each other.the book ends off just as they two finally meet each other but there is no cliff hanger which can put people of reading until all books are released as myself I hate cliff hangers. If you love all the last riders then you will love this book as brings out most characters from the previous books and it's just getting started bring on the next book as cant wait for more and would love if jamie begley could release a book every month God I would buy one of her books every day they are so good. I dont like giving people a break down of the book as I want you to read it yourself and get your own idea on the book but totally amazing brilliant 10 star read

It's a Last Rider Book. It can never be less than 5 star for me. You must read the series in order to enjoy it. Believe me, it is worth the ride. Jamie, you are one of the best story tellers. Thank you.
