Girls of Dirt Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 22 ratings

Series Two, Book One.

It is five hundred years since the end of the great wars, and Pree and Farthing's hopes of a new world are in tatters. The dragons are nothing more than children's tales, the population of Dirt is smaller, tiny countries are ruled by greedy kings and humans are poorer and struggling.

But on the Isle of Hope, the weather is warm, the life is good and Silvi Farthing, the seventeen-year-old descendant of Johnson and Mistry, is making cheese and keeping goats.

But her little dream of independence is about to be turned upside down by her misogynistic and violent brothers, and she is not convinced that her rescuer is not actually worse!

So begins a new chapter in the story of Dirt as Silvi, Be-Elin, Mab-Abin and the Ancient Ferret, Weasel’s daughter, work to bring back the dragons, and look for a country where they will be accepted by the people and can help build a better future for all of Dirt.

Includes a recap of Series One.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"I cannot recommend reading the series for yourself highly enough, C.C. Hogan manages to blend the struggles of a fantasy world with the struggles of our own world without missing a beat. And the dragons? We should all be like them. Truly a hidden gem to be discovered!" - Tome Tender

"Girls of Dirt by C. C. Hogan is a wonderful adventure! I loved this book! I started reading it right after breakfast the day before yesterday. I ended up not doing much of anything at all besides reading. All day!" - Elle at Simple Wyrdings

I have several loves and two of them make their way into my books - people and wonderful stories.

My big work is Dirt - a huge fantasy saga set over hundreds of years. This is most definitely a saga and the story is built around the characters both human and dragon. It is currently in two series with a third on the distant horizon.

I love my characters to have humour and to be able to make silly jokes even in the darkest of moments. So do not be surprised if dreadful wars are interrupted by moments of idiocy or my huge, powerful, noble dragons fart when they eat too much fish!

But all of them are real, and when the time is right, I let them cry and grieve.

Another love is London, and my book The Stink is set in the 1970s when I grew up. It is about a young band trying to get a gig while battling against racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia and murderous tramps. Did I mention it was a comedy?

Children's book coming soon too! Oh, and poetry...

Another excellent rendition of a story from that fantastical world of Dirt, where Dragons and humans can and sometimes do interact.
It is 500 years since the first series of Dirt, which saw the Dragons and humans combine to fight and win freedom for the people of Dirt, from their oppressive rulers.
A horrible disease which killed most of the dragons had forced them to seek refuge on the other side of the world. Dragons now are things of myth and nobody can even lay claim to ever having seen one.
Enter two "young" girls, one seventeen and one (an ancient) over five hundred years old, but still looking like a young woman and two dragons who just want their people to be able to return home.
So starts a series of adventures and battles designed to win back the hearts and minds of the people of Dirt and to free them once again from their oppressive and bloodthirsty leaders.
Another great Dragon tale from Hogan. Loved this book.

The story seemed to drone on and on. Not enough to keep it hopping along and keep my interest up there. I quit reading at 72%. Sorry. Others might love it.
