4.5 out of 5 stars 354 ratings

Will the galaxy survive?

Kanoor has fallen.

The Xortaags are back with a vengeance. Not being the forgive-and-forget types, they’ve conquered the Akakie homeworld, and now they set their sight upon Earth. Having reverse-engineered the advanced technology they scavenged on Kanoor, they now hold the key to rule the universe forever. It now befalls to Jim and his friends to save not only humanity, but every sentient species in the galaxy.

To make matters worse, an even more sinister threat is looming in the darkness. Unknown to our heroes, a time-travelling alien fleet is on its way to our neck of the galactic woods.

You thought the stakes were high during the first human-Akakie-Xortaag intergalactic war? You ain’t seen nothing yet!

The Golden Viper, the second book in The Crimson Deathbringer series, boasts the same high-octane, non-stop action sequences as the first, and combined with its laugh-out-loud moments, shocking twists, and new, unforgettable characters, it’s a must-read for all space opera/military sci-fi fans. Sink your teeth into Jim’s next set of adventures today!

Also available in Spanish, German, Italian, and Greek!

Praise for The Golden Viper:

The Golden Viper builds on already strong, deep characters, and adds further depth to them while remaining true to the vivid personalities. Suspenseful, gripping, and packed with action this will appeal to anyone who loves a character-driven, activation-packed read where protagonists are forced to face impossible odds.

K.J. Simmill, the author of Darrienia

If you loved The Crimson Deathbringer, you can expect more of the same, except this time the stakes are seven-hundred-million times higher. Humorous and harrowing, The Golden Viper is riddled with sharp surprises and bitter betrayals. No muddle in the middle here; this action-packed sequel is as good as the first, and sets up nicely for the final conflict in The Black Fleet.

Timothy Rains, the author of Saltwater Magic

The Golden Viper has all the high-flying action and great character chemistry that makes Robins’ series so much fun to read! If you like space battles and galactic plots, this one’s for you!

From the Author

I have a confession to make: I wasn't initially planning to write the sequel to my first book so soon. I had this cool idea about a time-travel story, so I started working on that. Then The Crimson Deathbringer ended up selling several thousand copies, and everyone kept asking me about the sequel (which I had teased at the end of the first book). I gave in to popular demand and, I must say, it turned out much better than my time-travel project.See, here is the thing: some writers work in a very structured way. They write outlines from the beginning and stick to it. I don't. My characters are actually alive in some alternate universe, and they do their own thing. Do you remember it was revealed in The Crimson Deathbringer that Tarq, the little funny alien who kept pulling people's legs, was behind the attack on Earth? I was as surprised as anyone by that. Similarly, Jim, Kurt, and Tarq took The Golden Viper to places I didn't know the story would or could go, but I am happy it did. I know sequels are notorious for not being as good as the first book/movie, but there are always exceptions (The Empire Strikes Back, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and Deadpool 2, as examples). Is The Golden Viper more entertaining than The Crimson Deathbringer? You will be the judge of that. But I can tell you this with certainty: the third and last book, The Black Fleet, is going to be epic. You don't believe me? Have a look at the book blurb and pay close attention to the quote from Tarq where he talks about sacrificing billions to save trillions.I genuinely hope you enjoy reading this book and, if you do, please drop me a line and let me know. Few things in life make me happier than hearing from the people who like my books.@seanrobins300facebook.com/sean.robins.77

This is Jim Harrison, your favorite flying ace. If you’ve read my trilogy, you know these books are autobiographies, and Sean Robins is just a pen name. If you haven’t, well then, SURPRISE!

*****

Sorry about that, guys. I could never resist a good meta-joke.

So, this is me. The real me, Sean Robins. Unfortunately, my life is nowhere nearly as interesting as my main protagonist’s. I’m a university/college-level English teacher, and including Canada, I’ve lived and worked in six different countries. I’ve met people from all around the world, which is probably why my characters look like the bridge crew from Star Trek (They are from US, Germany, Canada, Cuba, Mexico, Russia, Japan, and Ukraine, plus a couple of aliens and an AI). One of my female characters even impersonated Uhura once, albeit posthumously.

I’m a huge Marvel (plus Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and Stargate) fan, which shows since my novels are loaded with pop culture references. If you are a sci-fi fan (I assume that you are), you’ll enjoy them tremendously. Moreover, while the books aren’t comedies, I can guarantee a few laugh-out-loud moments. Case in point: The “good” aliens are a race of pranksters, whose main goal in life is pulling other people’s legs (They have four legs, hence the slight change in the idiom).

My favorite author is Jim Butcher (The Dresden Files), which is probably how I ended up writing in a first-person POV with the same light-hearted, funny tone as he does. The fact that my MC’s name is Jim is purely coincidental though, and it has nothing to do with James Kirk either.

I hope you enjoyed reading The Crimson Deathbringer as much as I enjoyed writing it (her?). If you did, don’t forget to read the next two books in the series, The Golden Viper and The Black Fleet. Also, please follow me so that you’ll be the first to know whenever I write a new book (which sadly isn’t that often, maybe once a year—I tend to rewrite everything fifteen times before I’m satisfied). I think the easiest way is to follow me on Amazon, but Goodreads, BookBob, Twitter (@seanrobins300) and/or Facebook (facebook.com/seanrobins300) are also good options.

This follow-up to The Crimson Deathbringer reunited us with some of our favorite characters with all their quirks, attachments and abilities. I'm The Golden Viper, new dangers and new technologies sweep us into another page-turning story of saving the galaxy. A worthy companion to the first book.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the first book was great, but the second one was even better. Fair warning, don't get attached to anybody. Anybody! But, that being said, the book is still great. It's dramatic, and sad, and funny all at the same time. The world this series builds is totally believable even though it shouldn't be. The aliens and their body type and their technology. All believable. Even though they shouldn't be. This book pretty much wrapped up the war by the ending, but, there was a second storyline running through this book that seemed unconnected to what was happening throughout the rest of the book, until you reached the end. And then, bam! You just have to hurry on to book three to find out what is going to happen. It certainly seems like anything could happen at this point and the end of the world is near. I guess we will find out in the next book....

I definitely recommend you start this series with book 1, as this is not a standalone book at all, but you will not be sorry you did. Go grab that book and go ahead and get this one too. You're going to want it anyway!!

This second book in this series was just as entertaining as the first. With interesting characters and an intriguing storyline it was a fun read. Follow along on the adventures. And questions your ethics of when is it morally right to commit genocide.

Non stop action. Intrigue. Never sure who can be trusted. Universe scaled interaction. People fight and good people die. Very entertaining story. Knocked one star off for introduction of the Vox without sufficient background building.

Let's start with my opinion that the authors writing is top-notch. He sets scenes, builds characters, and paints with words in a very recognizable and enjoyable fashion. After that, I just have a hard time with how lightly he treats mass-destruction in this series. Most chapters were quite long – up to 100 pages – but broken into bites, separated by ****. Even so, I found it took longer than normal to read through this book. I had to take regular breaks to bounce back from some of the feelings of negativity coming from the way destruction was presented. It's also a bit disconcerting to see how some main characters can get really stupid when abut to resolve situations. Overall, it's a pretty good read, just not a really great one.

Overall, a five star book. I love scifi and this book puts everything scifi to the forefront. Space wars, characters was within themselves, many different races and cultures, the weaponry in this future point in time, and more. If you like scifi then this is the book for you. Like in the first book, there were wordage that originated from Star Trek, etc for humor.I found many grammar errors. Some words misspelled, some tense changes, overall the errors did not affect my reading. Five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good sequel
Reviewed in Australia on February 7, 2020
Sean Robins has crafted a clever, witty, engaging, sequel to the Crimson Deathbringer. In the second book of the trilogy we catch up with the characters we came to love in Book 1 - Jim, Kurt, Tarq, Maada. But the moral dilemmas and obstacles to peace produce an unexpected twist at the end. I admire Robins' ability to "kill his darlings". A fast paced exciting ride through the universe.

This is shaping up to be a great series. Sean Robins has created a complex plot with constant twists. Great characters that he is not afraid to invest in making you care about and then simply killing them off. An action packed storyline and the beginning of the next crisis to engulf the universe make you want to read the next book. Great stuff, highly recommended for lovers of military Sci-fi with a dose of humour.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sequel to The Crimson Deathbringer, action galore!
Reviewed in Canada on March 1, 2020
A good sequel to Robins' blockbuster The Crimson Deathbringer. The action is back though the story starts slowly. If you haven't read the first book in the series you may be puzzled by some of the references, but don't let that throw you. Lots of good sci-fi references especially if you're a Trekker - the flying ace is back with his wise cracks and macho swashbuckling, good pals, a slut alien, and all the pranks you might expect from his alien sidekick Tarq.

A rip roaring good story with a cliffhanger at the end leading us to the third book in the trilogy.

Can hardly wait to see what the author has up his flying sleeve for the third and final book!

I had read and enjoyed the first book a while ago, and I ran into this sequel. Now with the Corona pandemic, locked up at home, it was the perfect moment to read this book. This second book is as action-packed and funny as the first one. Thank you for making this quarantine (at least the first weeks, god knows how long this will last) more enjoyable!

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 5, 2020
Having read and thoroughly enjoyed The Crimson Deathbringer, I was delighted to see a sequel had been published and immediately preordered it. Once again, the great cast of characters is assembled as intergalactic war threatens the humans and akakies alike. This time, the warships are bigger, faster and more powerful and things get even worse for Jim and Tarq when their Nemesis, General Maad returns from the dead, in the form of a clone, and all out war looms.
Unbeknownst to both sides, however, a species so far unknown to either side is plotting to wipe out all carbon-based lifeforms in the galaxy.
This is a great, action packed follow up to the first book in the series. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next installment of the series. Five stars, for sure.
