4.6 out of 5 stars 33 ratings

Special Edition including The Theory and Application of Crystals and a new glossary.Gravity’s Arrow, debut novel from Jack Mann, is a gripping science fiction adventure. Twelve-year-old Fhiro doesn’t understand the tensions of the adult world around him and kicks back against his parents’ attempts to hold him in line. But when catastrophe strikes, he has no alternative but to do as he is told, watching aghast as he is dragged towards a future he neither envisaged nor ever wanted. Fhiro and his family are disciples of the Creedate religion, but a fundamental sect that has taken it over objects to anyone who speaks out against its stated goals of total domination. Fhiro’s parents have been too outspoken and now the whole family must flee. In their precipitous escape, the true extent of the secrets they have kept from Fhiro and his two siblings become clear.

Excellent book, very imaginative and definitely worth the time ! Compelling characters with a huge dose of surprise in store near the end. This author has the patience it takes to establish the characters and makes your mind do flips with the action sequences and the surprises near the end. I look forward to reading the next piece of work by this author and wish the next book in the series was already out ! Well done Jack !!

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing, action packed read!

Wow! From the outset there is action and intrigue. The character development over the course of the book is fantastic, learning more and more about the main characters. The story taking you from a small planet and thrusting you into an intergalactic adventure filled with conflict, relationships, love, politics, war, history and technology to name a few themes. A thoroughly riveting read! Looking forward to the next book!

    5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sci-fi!

Like all great sci-fi, Gravity’s Arrow creates a fantastical world, but at it’s core, it deals with some meaty issues present on our world. The interaction of culture and religion, environment and technology, family and duty, just to name a few. It does this with a deftness of touch which allows the reader to ponder these questions without being assaulted by them.

I can’t wait for the sequel! Or a prequel? The galaxy in Dr Mann’s mind has many more stories to tell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Constant imagination throughout, a great read!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 18, 2019
Constant imagination through every page, and discriptive. The mix of religion with science fiction is very well researched by the author and I could tell there was a structured beginning and end planned to help the reader know where the story was going or heading. The younger generation of characters lead most of the book but should the author choose to write a follow up, the younger generation could be the ones that teach a newer generation all about what goes on in this book in the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars gripping space fantasy
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 9, 2019
Just read Gravity’s arrow, by Jack Mann. Loved it. It was fast, classic fantasy science fiction, mixing space, fantasy and mysticism. Lot of names to get to grips with in the first few pages but so worth it as the pace hots up steadily to an un-putdownable climax, which doesn’t let you down. After a careful set up, the story line takes off, roaming through a galaxy filled with religious fanatics, violent empire builders and peaceful planets trying to stay out of a galactic feud. The background is intriguing, no spoilers but the author is obviously fascinated by the role religion plays in conflict, and how individuals and their families are dragged reluctantly into bloody conflict. Should particularly appeal to those who like Frank Herbert, Asimov, Le Guinn, Ian M Banks and Orson Scott Card. Thought-provoking SF/Fantasy.
