Halfheroes Kindle Edition
★★★★★"Fantastic fantasy writing at its best!"★★★★★
The world’s only superhero was discovered in 1969. No others were ever found. Until now.
With Station destroyed, and their friends dead, might Daniel and Abos finally be allowed some peace?
Yeah, right.
Daniel’s talents are needed by a UN department taking on the bad guys, including rogue halfheroes. Abos is searching for more of her species. She soon finds she’s not the only one looking. There’s a new threat that no one saw coming. And halfheroes are being targeted.
When Daniel goes missing, it’s down to Abos to find out what’s going on and try to stop it. Her only chance of success means risking everything she’s gained since she stopped being The Deterrent.
Meanwhile, Daniel’s staging a breakout from the most secure prison ever built, but what’s waiting for him is even worse.
It’s time for Daniel to find out if he’s a halfhero, or a real hero.

About the Author
Born at an early age, Ian W Sainsbury quickly learned to talk about himself in the third person, meaning a career in the arts was all but inevitable. In 1987, he ran away from university to join the circus, playing in a band providing accompaniment for monkeys riding on pigs.
Finding it hard to match such early success, Ian played piano on cruise ships before spending over a decade singing in European piano bars. He also ran (and still does) a choir or two, singing pop stuff in a pub.
The next career move was obvious, and no one was surprised when Ian spent five years as a stand-up comic. He also began writing music and material for ventriloquist Paul Zerdin, including co-writing Zerdin’s Vegas show in 2016.
After music, circuses, puppets, comedy and choirs, Ian pooled his earnings to date and was able to buy a palatial two-man tent and a skateboard. It was at this point that he decided the world might be ready for a novel or two.
Since The World Walker appeared on Amazon in 2016, Ian has—to his amazement—found he is one of those people who does what he loves for a living without having to sell a kidney.
He lives in East Anglia with Mrs S, two daughters and a flatulent dog.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2018I never rate a book a 5 unless it compares with Tolkien. After finishing this book I don't think that is fair. I usually have given books a 4 if I finish them. If I'm not intrigued I don't finish them. That's probably not fair either, oh well. I didn't read the first book for awhile. I thoroughly enjoyed the world Walker series but the name "Children of the deterrent" put me off for some reason. Anyway I really enjoyed it once I started and looked forward to this book. So now the change in my scores thoughts. If I think the story is crafted as well as it could be, from my own space in the universe, I'm going to give it a 5. This story flowed, kept me reading and looking forward to the next chapter. Didn't jump around so much you lose track of the overall picture. I don't want to know what's going to happen by page 100 but I don't like to be totally lost until the last page either. Hurry up with the next one will you?

- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2018I was introduced to Ian's works by pure happenstance. I have a 50 minute commute to work and the drive is so much easier listening to an audiobook. I thought the title of World Walker sounded intriguing so I bought the audiobook. Since then, I have been devouring all of Ian's writings. To the author I say "Thank you." To the person reading this review, I say stop reading this and start reading something incredible. On a side note... You may not want to start on this one. This is book two.
Enjoy the journey.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2018The answer is a resounding HELL YES! The fact that I would recommend it says a lot - I read a LOT (a ridiculously large amount) yet there are very few that I would go out of my way to recommend to others. Mostly this is because they all fall into the same ruts and are predictably predictable - this is NOT !! The story is entertaining and intriguing and held my interest from the first page to the last. I have read both books 1 and 2 in this trilogy and will sit - not so patiently - twiddling my thumbs waiting for the 3rd instalment! Hurry up Mr Sainsbury!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2021Book nr 2 didn't dissapoint, it starts exactly where nr 1 left of and Daniel and his friends with superpowers tries to stop their evil brothers and sister, in one of these attempts something goes very wrong and from there crazy things happens but i wont give away spoilers. It is fun to read and hear an intelligent story about superhumans and their struggles, defently will get the last book in the serie
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2018Not so bad I didn't finish, but slow.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2020After reading and loving the The World Walker series, I moved on to Children of the Deterrent. I almost gave up by the middle of the book. The last third of the book was much better, which kept me going on.
Halfheroes is brilliant! Ian Sainsbury is back. Moving to book 3.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
I love these books! I am a 60 year old grandmother that loves Sci fi and stumbled on this series. Getting to know the characters, Daniel and Abos more each book. Introducing a love interest for Daniel was fantastic. Ian w sainsbury books show me how much he loves writing exciting twist and turns. You can see how much he likes to build a character and encourage us to love that character as much as him. Great work, looking forward to the next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Okay so what did I think of this book ....
I was very excited to get started on this sequel, but after a third of the way through it, it lost my interest. 2 months passed I tried to read the odd page but read 3 other books in this time before trying to finish it off as I have only ever not read 1 book and to be fair, I read a page a year of that as I won’t give up on a book till its read.
So why did it lose me? Looking back it seemed like every other superhero story I have seen/read. I was bored. Same ol’,same ol’ is what I thought. Oooh why don’t I learn my lesson....
Two months on I start reading again and after a few pages I’m hooked. Took me two days to finish it once I started back.
I don’t like spoilers so what I will say.....
It gets good. Well worth the read, now leave me alone, I need to read the last book, bother me later....

5.0 out of 5 stars Good sequel to Children of the Deterrent
The second book in this trilogy makes some imaginative but entirely logical additions to the ideas in the first. Again, it has two main strands, following Abos and the children, which converge at the end. Again, the characters are well developed and the story as believable as any superhero story can be. The way the plot moves forward is a little more contrived at times, but not nearly as badly as in some thrillers I have read. Unlike the first book, this one really needs you to read the final volume to complete the journey, but if you have enjoyed the first two, why not read the third?

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than book one
A second book in a trilogy can sometimes be a bit middling and dull, but in this case not only did I enjoy it as much as part one, but actually as this book kept up the pace of the first one but further expanded the world of this series, I actually enjoyed it slightly more than the first book. When getting towards the end of this book, I made sure to order book 3 so that I had it by the time I finished, and am now currently engrossed in that final part. I would happily recommend this series and the authors earlier world walker series to anyone who likes interesting sci fi that has that good balance between having a story that makes you want to keep reading while at the same time keeping enough of a light hearted tone so that it never feels to heavy.
