Heart and the City: A hurt/comfort contemporary romance novella (Love Medicine Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 8 ratings

The series is set in New York City and was written before 2020. It makes no reference to recent events.

British doctor Lea Holm has come to New York to work in her chosen field of emergency medicine. She loves her new life in this exciting city and can’t wait to get started with her research project. The last thing she needs are distractions.

But then she meets famous actor Ricco Como in her building – a distraction if ever there was one. He’s gorgeous and sweet, and there’s an immediate connection between them. Lea tries to resist temptation, but when he comes to her for help dealing with his steadily worsening migraine she can’t turn away from his plight.

As Ricco’s health takes a turn for the worse, their lives become more and more entwined. But can their growing attraction withstand the strain of his ill health, and can he let Lea be more than just his doctor?

**This novella series contains detailed descriptions of long-term health conditions, cheating and a bereavement.**

Cecilia Fyre has written a number of books and short stories under a different pen name. She's now embarking on her latest writing adventure, bringing stories with a strong hurt/comfort element to her readers.

Cecilia is crazy about loves stories that take you further than your typical happily ever after. Her stories are dark and often filled with pain. Her characters are flawed, and they suffer. But in the end, love will prevail and they'll find their person. The one who will make life worth living, even if it's not perfect.

I'm having a hard time reviewing this book because I haven't been able to connect with the story or the characters.

To begin with, I have to clarify that this author is new to me, her way of writing has left me with the feeling that something is missing, I felt that her words lack life, emotion, I feel them very cold and if we add that her characters seem to act like teenagers when they are already adults and professionals it only makes me more confused with what I have read.

I could never connect with Ricco and therefore understand him, I am not convinced that he wants to have a love relationship with Lea because his attitude is not that of a man in love, but it seems that because of his constant migraines he wants to have someone to take refuge in and help him control them.
And Lea is not a character that projects charisma and love either, it goes like clockwork and it seems that behind their insecurities when compared to Ricco's exes they hide an important event in their lives but that the author does not clarify or mention.

And finally I realize that this book is just the beginning of a series, which if I knew that it would be the same characters in the next ones I would not have started it, I do not like to wait for the happy ever after and more if the book specifies that there is infidelity, this last thing is something that I do not like or tolerate even in books.

So this book was definitely not for me, but as I always say read it and come up with your own opinion, very often I find that is very different then mine and that’s totally ok.

I have to be honest.  I had to read this novella twice before I felt comfortable posting a review.  I'm glad I did.  Cecilia Fyre is a new author for me so, at first, I found the writing style a bit fractured and leaving me wanting more details.  I still feel that way, but also understand now that this is part one of a series.  No conclusions or HEA here yet.

I'm  hoping it is a slow build for the characters of Ricco and Lea.  Right now, the characters are a bit immature with knee jerk reactions to situations. I  also think with Ricco's celebrity status and his health issues, they are going to have a lot to overcome, which may make for an interesting series.  To quote Lea " I have no experience with celebrity.  My reality is science and facts."

So, in conclusion, this series has a lot of potential as long as the characters grow up a bit and have some self discovery.  I'd also like more details about the secondary characters.  Who the heck is Jon?  Will we meet Ricco's son?  It remains to be seen.

Heart and the City is off to a promising start.

I loved everything about this book. I enjoyed the story so much I purchased the rest of the books in the series. I can’t wait to see what’s ahead.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Gosh...when will couples just communicate? Talk to each other before there is a crisis. I get so tired of people doing things that inadvertently hurt others, even when they don't mean to.

When the book begins and ends with the same issue, migraines on Ricco's part and Lea the physician's assistant helping him, I'm not really on-board. When an issue between the couple happens twice, it just seems like a rehash...and talk people!

I wasn't aware that this was a series. The book just ends with a continued in part 2 without any real resolution. The story was OK, but just OK.

This is the first book I've read by this author. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it - even though it ended with a cliff hanger. The story line was well written and the characters engaging and kept my attention to the point of not wanting to put it down.

It appears as if this story builds across multiple installments of the series and I can't wait to see how the story continues and whether these characters get their HEA.

Great addition to your book collection.

    Happy Reading...enjoy!

This was a laugh out loud, tears streaming, dont put this book down experience. I literally cried I laughed so hard. The vivid descriptions of "life happens" moments coupled with everyday awkwardness brings this book to life. I love the authenticity and originality.

This was a short book and I couldn't really connect with the characters. Ricco was intriguing but I didn't really feel like he was invested in having a relationship with Lea. His behavior wasn't consistent and I could understand Lea's doubts about him. The story leaves you hanging and I don't really like to read books like that. I like to read a book and have an ending.

This novella was gripping, well written & the chemistry between the characters sizzled throughout this wonderful read. There were many bumps in the road for Lea & Ricco but they continued to be drawn to each other. They both were determined to be together, despite the obstacles standing in their way. I couldn’t put this book down. I am looking forward to Lea & Ricco’s story continuing in book #2 of the “Love Medicine” series. I was given an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.
