- Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2017Start of a series by two of the best in the thriller genre, Code Name: Chandler, has a hit in the book, Hit (pun intended).
Full of thrills, chills, and action, Chandler is an assassin on the trail of something that a man is auctioning off to the highest bidder. She is not informed of what the “something” is, only that she is to obtain it and bring it to her handler. After Chandler is not able to get the item from the auction place, she has to pose as something she is not and travels with the possessor to Las Vegas along with his bodyguard.
Chandler is baffled when she is unable to locate the item on the possessor before it it to be handed over to the highest bidder. When she finally realizes where it is, another assassin is in her way. After quite a few thrills, chills, and amazing feats, who will end up with the item? It certainly won’t be the highest bidder, but which assassin does it end up with?
Hit may keep you up all night. It certainly did me. Anyone a fan of any of the books written by either of these two authors, together, separately, or under any of their under names will certainly enjoy this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice prequel to the action that takes place in the -about-to-be-published Three
All in all, I love the Chandler series. There are times when a person is just in the mood for wildly over-the-top action featuring a sexy but sometimes insecure female assassin. And for those times, the Konrath and Peterson novels deliver in spades. In the case of "Hit", the action is non-stop and the reader gets to make the acquaintance of Heath, a Mexican-American hitman who is every bit as formidable as Chandler and provides both a romantic interest and a worthy adversary whose skills match Chandler's. (Note - the reader gets even more of an exposure to Heath in the upcoming Three.)
Minor issues with Hit (though nothing that kept me from enjoying the book immensely) would be these. As noted, the Heath character was a nice addition to the series (though, if I might offer a bit of criticism, his character as expressed through his dialogue occasionally veers a bit wildly between a Ricardo Montalban-type smoothie and the crudity of a gaggle of cholos waiting at the day-labor site on the corner. “Hey, mamacita!” indeed.)
Also, it strikes me that there were far more editorial issues/glitches with Hit than I’ve been used to seeing in the earlier Chandler books. For example, there is a sentence where Chandler is on the run and stops at a table with empty "desert plates" (rather than dessert). Little things, but still...
All in all, though, Hit is a great read and well worth the reader's time.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2018This is a reasonable yarn, but: although it's short, it's rather drawn out; the rationale behind any plot is never explained and it's another of those reader traps where the tale is unfinished ….. presumably to compel a search for a follow-up book but, I just feel cheated!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2015I have a huge love affair with the Chandler series. I find they're so much fun. Serious action packed book. It's like watching a movie. So descriptive and exciting. I've been to Vegas once and this was pretty fun to watch. What am I talking about, read! Basically, Chandler is sent to retrieve info from an exec when his bodyguard gets in the way.
It's been awhile since I read the series and I'm pretty sure we meet Heath further down the road I just can't place anyone at the moment. It's like starting from the beginning. There is so much action and although, I'm not sure you can move 3 feet without running into a cop in Vegas it was still a fun worthwhile read. I cannot get enough of Chandler. What a tough cookie.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2013I had purchased the three novels, but decided to hold off reading them when I heard that the novellas were prequels.
Anyway - I really enjoyed "Hit". And while I agree that some of the action is a bit over-the-top (read an energetic James Bond/Our Man Flint), that did not detract from the enjoyment for me. There are "serious" spy novels (John LeCarre comes to mind) and then there are those stories like these. The characters were pretty well fleshed out and the authors did a good job on the storyline.
My only "quibble" is that I felt for this type of story, the sex scene was a bit too descriptive. Not to the point where it turned me off, but I felt it was a bit out of place. Read the Bond novels (especially the Fleming ones) and you will see that these scenes are much more PG-13, where at times while reading "Hit" I felt that at least an R rating would have been necessary. Again, not saying I have not ever read worse (and no I don't read porn), but a bit surprised.
Will probably read the other two prequel novellas before starting the full length novels - but enjoying the ride so far.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2024I do not write reviews very often but this one is an exception. The story unfolds nicely but the exploits a obviously impossible. I plan to read the whole series. My only comment is that the sex scenes are too minutely described too often and have become become boring. I am not a fan of romance novels and in most movies sex scenes seem a requirement. I am anxiously waiting to see what Chandler does next.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2020Great read! Chandler is the female James Bond on steroids, what can be better than secret assassins, Las Vegas, latin lover, guns, knives and super thrills with a little Sex thrown in for flavor!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2023While I like the look back at hoe Chandler and Heath meet and become entwined, I’m not a fan of that happening out of order in a series. Still, the book was everything I typically like about Konrath and Peterson. Chandler is fierce and I did like seeing a more complete side of Heath,

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it
These books are addictive and so easy to read. I've read all Konrath books, and have started over to read them again. Love it when he joins with Ann Voss Peterson, makes the books a little more serious.

4.0 out of 5 stars Even More Chandler
Flee (Chandler Series) - Spree (Chandler Series) - Three (Chandler Series)
Three extremely over the top, but thoroughly enjoyable books, gain an addition to the series with: Hit.
Set sometime before the events of Flee (but given some of the people and scenarios mentioned, I believe this segues into 'Three' but I've not yet read so cannot confirm), Hit sees Chandler given a mission to take out an arms dealer but meeting her match in the form of his bodyguard.
Gun fights, martial arts, sex, lots of running, Vegas and bullets ensue in this fast paced short story which entertains and intrigues, even if it stretches believability. But heck, that's what the Chandler books are about. If you want snappy dialogue, some violence and sex, then this is a treat just for you.
Go buy, and buy the other books too (and Exposed - A Thriller (Chandler Series) and you won't be disappointed

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
Not a bad read some of the sex was a bit graphic, it could have been a bit toned down, there was also a lot of action, I do have another one of Konrath's books so before I pass on any more judgement, I will have another go at his novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hit is a hit
These collaborative novels are great fun to read! This one is early in the collection and explains the chemistry between Chandler and Heath. Fast paced and an easy read.
