Iona: Abbess Of Beannchor: (A Short, Clean Historical Irish Novella) (Maids Of Ulaid Book 3) Kindle Edition
She’s devoted her life to God. But what if His will is different from what she thinks?
Iona loves her position as an Abbess. It’s her calling and her life, and it’s where she feels closest to God.
But there is trouble in the land. The Vikings make repeated raids on the monasteries in the area, damaging, looting and destroying. Many villagers are killed in the raids, leaving orphaned children with nowhere to go.
Iona gets a call to go to the monastery at Beannchor to care for the orphans that are sheltering in its remains. They have nowhere to go and no one to care for them, and her heart goes out to them.
But it soon becomes apparent that it’s not safe to stay so close to the coast. Iona decides that they must make the difficult journey inland to Dún Lethglaise, away from the threat of Viking raids. They set off on foot, going cross-country to avoid the main routes.
On the trail of a horse thief, Olwydd is startled when he comes across a band of women and children in the countryside. When he hears their story, he feels torn between his duty to the King and their need for protection.
Iona convinces him to continue on his mission. But as soon as he has the opportunity, he returns to find Iona and the children, only to discover that they have been taken by the Vikings.
Will he be able to save them in time? Will Iona see that God’s will for her life might not be what she thinks?
This short, clean novella is set in Ireland in the days of the great kings; a time when Vikings raided, clans fought and adventure lurked around every corner.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseEnjoyed all stories in this series. Each gave a unique understanding of who the main character was, and in this story, of how that woman's place as Abbess might have been perceived during the age when Vikings first invaded Scotland.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis novella is a glimpse into the past. It gives an idea of what it would be like to face enemies and war.
It also gives a glimpse of what it can be like when we follow the promptings that come into ours lives through God. That His love can heal all.
The characters are well developed and enjoyable to follow in their journey and love for each other.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2020Format: KindleI really enjoyed this book. It’s well written and heartwarming. I loved all the characters. Iona is an abbess. She feels called to care for the orphans of a destroyed village. She falls in love with these kids. She and the kids are kidnapped by slavers. She is rescued by the commander of the kings guards. A journey of danger as they they obey the leading of the Lord. God has a plan for all these people. God has a plan for you too. A good plan and not for evil. Give Hm your heart and watch Him turn your life around.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2020Format: KindleIona is a beautiful Abbess with a desire to serve the Lord wherever he calls her. She is not afraid to do hard things. Quick read - almost too quick.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2020Format: KindleIona feels God is calling her to help with orphans in a village devastated by the Vikings. After arriving to help, the Vikings return. After hiding and running out of supplies, Iona begins a journey to the closest castle for protection with the other nuns. Along the way, they meet Olwydd, part of the King’s guard. He feels obligated to help the nuns & children, but he’s also on a mission for the King. It’s a quick read of Iona, the orphans that she falls in love with & the soldier who rescues them.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2020Format: KindleWhat an exciting story. I love the books written in the middle-ages that are clean. Kaitlynn has written 3 that I have read so far and I have loved them all. She also writes modern books the ones I've read have been a delight. So all around her stories Rock! Pick them up if you get the chance. You won't be disappointed.
