- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2017This coming-of-age story is moving, involving, and 100% believable. Sam and Will love each other wholeheartedly and uncomplicatedly—but in their late teens, the nature of that love changes. The author makes their confusion, desire, and uncertainty heartbreakingly vivid; anyone can relate to this anxious time, after childhood but not yet into adulthood. It’s all the harder in the rural Midwest, managing the expectations of family and society. The boys’ personalities are very different but they fit together so well and care about each other so much that I immediately found myself caring about them too.
The story is poignant but also funny, and beautifully written, and really (REALLY) hot. I’m grateful there’s soon to be a sequel, because I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2017As someone who fell in love with her best friend in high school I found this story to be very true to that experience. The fear of what the other will think, the leap of faith, the courage, and then the excitement at having the love reciprocated was all beautifully handled. I connected with the struggle about whether or not to hide the relationship from family who isn't supportive. This story is sweet and lovely and hot, all the things you want in a romance. It's honest and doesn't shy away from topics like homophobia in the midwest or how it feels to make love for the first time. You can feel the love Sam and Will have for each other radiating off each page. I loved it and look forward to re-reading it again and again.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2017This book is a lovely exploration of first love, tentative confessions, and the way that a strong friendship can turn (just like that!) into a powerful and passionate bond. What makes it special is, I think the way it captures the feeling of the Thanksgiving holiday, the way you experience holidays as a young adult: as one of those rare moments when everything slows down, and you get drawn back into old patterns, drawn back into the family circle, and find that everything has shifted, because *you've* changed. The relationship between Sam and Will is positive and inspiring. The way they work together to deal with the challenges that greet them is simply wonderful.
Clara W. Barrow's prose and attention to detail are gorgeous. She makes everything into magic, from the first kiss between these two lifelong friends, to the first snow of autumn, to each time they make love. Highly recommended if you're in the mood for a positive, uplifting, and very sweet romance.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2018Couldn't quite get into this. The plot was fine, but even after reading the whole thing, I never felt a connection to the characters. They're in college, but that's of no particular significance other than being a thing that keeps them apart. One is from a farm, but it's completely irrelevant to the plot after the opening scene. They don't seem to have any motivations outside of their relationship, or any relationships outside of their households. I simply couldn't find enough substance in them to grab on to.

I was in a book funk and this gave me the jumpstart I needed. This story was short and sweet with very little angst. I loved reading about Will and Sam. They have been best friends and neighbors since childhood. One summer back from college has them confessing their true feelings for one another. They spend that whole summer together but eventually have to go back to school. They keep in touch and reunite during Thanksgiving break where their relationship takes a bigger step.
I really enjoyed seeing them go from friends to lovers and this book is the more like the beginning of that transition. They get together and when they are in their bubble at home all is fine but, there is always that lingering feeling of having to be apart again. A constant countdown plays in the back of their minds. These two are going to have to figure out how to be in this newly developing relationship while being so many miles apart. In this book you can already see how difficult it is for them and I think book 2 is going to be more about how they navigate through this issue. Again, this one is more like an introduction to Sam and Will's relationship. I really did like it :)
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2017This is sexy and sweet in equal measures, and I very much enjoyed reading it. The characters pull you in and make you want to get to know them better, and I loved the changes and development Sam and Will experienced even in this short novella. As I got closer and closer to the end, I felt sorry that I’d only have a few more pages of Will and Sam and their families... but right there at the end is the info that a full-length novel is forthcoming! What a pleasant surprise!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2017Cannot wait for the next book! Love her writing style and she has a gift for dialog. This story of two very young men who go from friends to lovers in the midwest farmland is not only beautifully told but believable too. She includes the domestic things of going to the bathroom, brushing teeth and getting chores done as anchors to real life. Her sex scenes are descriptive and loving without being vulgar. Truly, thank you for your art and time.

Amazing story! I loved it from beginning to end, the romance was perfectly written and the scene with Will and his mom at the end was definitely riveting. Will and Sam care about each other so much, it's simply lovely to read. I would recommend it to anyone. I can't wait for the sequel!
