Maids Of Ulaid Collection | Historical Irish Clean Romance Novella Collection Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 17 ratings

Strong. Resourceful. Resilient. Loving these maids of Ulaid is no job for an ordinary man. But will the right men find them?

This collection of short, clean novellas is set in Ireland in the days of the great kings; a time when Vikings raided, clans fought, and adventure lurked around every corner.

#1 Aeveen: Healer Of Ráith Mór

Forced to leave her village. Taken prisoner. She’s saved so many, but can he save her?

In one swift attack by the Vikings, the life that Aeveen knows comes to an end. Grieving over the loss of her beloved teacher, she is forced to flee to the fortress at Ráith Mór, home of the handsome but unhelpful Lord Neíll Mac Carthaigh.

She goes to work assisting the injured, but things go from bad to worse when she runs into conflict with the Lord himself. Only her skills save her from immediate banishment.

Her reputation as a healer grows and one day, a rival clan demands her services, threatening trouble if she fails to comply. Lord Mac Carthaigh reluctantly agrees and she leaves to attend to the sick and injured.

Soon after she arrives, the Vikings attack, kidnapping her along with several other women. When Lord Mac Carthaigh finds out, he is desperate to save her. Will he find her in time? Will he have the opportunity to tell her what’s on his heart? Or has he left it too late?

#2 Cara: Builder Of Dún Daen

She mends broken buildings. But will her own heart get broken as she tries to help him mend his?

When Cara’s father is injured, she finds herself taking on some of his building projects on her own, including renovations at the fortress of Dún Daen.

Home to Eochaid Fáelad, the fortress is unsuitable for his intended, Aoife, and he plans to make it more to her taste.

But before the work is completed, Aoife ends the betrothal. Eochaid is devastated, and Cara’s kindness helps to soothe his wounded heart.

A passionate kiss at midnight leaves Cara longing for a life with Eochaid, but will Aoife return to claim what she threw away? Can Cara come to terms with Eochaid’s apparent betrayal? Or is there still a chance for love?

#3 Iona: Abbess Of Beannchor

She’s devoted her life to God. But what if His will is different from what she thinks?

Iona loves her position as an Abbess, but it’s getting her into more trouble than she bargained for, and she finds herself caring for a group of orphans left behind after Viking raids on the nearby monastery.

But it soon becomes apparent that it’s not safe to stay so close to the coast. Iona decides that they must make the difficult journey inland to Dún Lethglaise, and they set off on foot.

On the trail of a horse thief, Olwydd is startled when he comes across a band of women and children in the countryside. When he hears their story, he feels torn between his duty to the King and their need for protection.

Iona convinces him to continue on his mission. But as soon as he has the opportunity, he returns to find Iona and the children, only to discover that they have been taken by the raiders.

Will he be able to save them in time? Will Iona see that God’s will for her life might not be what she thinks?

#4 Finola: Princess Of Dún Lethglaise

He’s her enemy. But he’s also a fellow human. Will kindness prevail? Could it turn to love?

#5 Cadhla: Judge Of Ard Mhacha

She’s a respected judge. He’s in love with her. But will his rival win all?

# 6 Eithne: Shepherdess Of Lughmaidh

He’s a warrior with painful memories. She’s not who she thinks she is. Can they face the past together?

Enjoyed all stories in this series. Each gave a unique understanding of who the main character was and how that woman's place might have been perceived during the age when Vikings first invaded Scotland. These sweet little bites of history were just enough to fill my need for a read and to whet my appetite for more.

My review today is on the Medieval Romance Collection, Maids of Ulaid. I really enjoy any medieval stories but so many are filthy. Kaitlynn does an awesome job with these stories. They are well written and heartwarming. I know you are going to love this series.

    Aeveen: Healer of Raith Mor

Teitheoir Pearse taught her all about herbs and how to heal ever since she came to him as a six year old. Her father had died before he could tell anyone who they were or where they came from. Now ten years later they are under attack by the Finngail.

    Cara: Builder of Dun Daen

Cara is helping to build with her father. He had been injured when Finngail attacked and is now not as strong as he once was. Now she designed for him also. They received a letter from Aaveen saying her friend Faolan had been injured and didn't know what else to try for he is not recovering.

    Iona: Abbess of Beannchor

Iona is an abbess in charge of a monastery. She asked the Bishop for permission to leave her position to go to Beannchor to minister to the orphans. Many of the adults had been killed from the Finngail attack. The Bishop accepted her request.

    Finola: Princess of Dun Lethglaise

Finola wants to teach the Finngail prisoners to speak their language so she could find out what was the reason of these attacks. Her brother the king gives her permission.

    Cadha: Judge of Ard Mhacha

Cadhla sat under her father a judge. She became very knowledgeable of the law. She often taught but her father thought she should marry so she did as he asked and left his care.

    Eithne: Shepherdess of Lughmaidh

Eithne was born as a result of a rape. She was left by the road and found by a man whose wife had just lost a child. He took her home. She now is the same shepherdess as her mother was when she had been attacke

I really enjoyed this collection of stories about viking raids on Ireland. This set of six stories had some overlap of characters but each story was complete and did not leave you hanging. This group of six woman were strong and each one was very different. There was a healer, a builder, a nun, a princess, a judge and a shepherdess. Each one had to face difficult circumstances and many of them gave the solutions to conquer the situations Strong. These were clean stories where each women found their perfect mate, yes even the nun was given a new direction in her life where she was allowed to leave the convent.

I appreciate the author's attempt to bring another dimension to the story by introducing a different language, but the definitions aren't much use when there isn't a hint of pronunciation. Not only that, but the character's name are also impossible. Maybe I'm alone in this, but I need to be able to pronounce things in my mind when I read. Otherwise this would be a nice collection.

Its so I nice having all of the books in one. All of these stories are about life in Medevil times. I really enjoy stories set in this time. Compared to present times they had some things harder and some things easier. I look forward to seeing what Katelynn comes with next. I hope it includes defeating the Vikings. Thank you for putting all the stories in one convenient package.

I really enjoyed this collection of clean short stories! I would recommend reading them in order as characters are introduced in previous stories. Perfect for when you are short on time but still want an engaging story that you can complete in a short time frame.

I received an ARC from Booksprout and all opinions are my own.
