Midnight Mage (The Night Realm: Magic Marked Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 1,580 ratings

He put a spell on me...

Or at least he must have, because none of this makes any sense. None of this can be real. I’m not a mage with magical powers…I’m just me. Ellie Sutton. Your average, everyday seventeen-year-old high school human student. My biggest concerns are bullies, failed exams, and missing the express subway twice in one day.

Magic is something I read about in comic books, it’s not real. People don’t move things with their minds or summon lightning with their hands. I don’t care what Stellan Wentworth says. It doesn’t matter that he’s breathtakingly beautiful or that his eyes sparkled when I challenge him. He’s the kind of hero found in romance novels, not my real life. I’m dreaming, I have to be.

Because if I’m not, then what he’s telling me is true. This gorgeous, terrifying world is in turmoil…and if I don’t learn how to use my magic overnight…they’ll all die.

Featuring a kickass heroine, forbidden love, and magic you’ll wish was real, fans of The Mortal Instruments, Twilight, or Harry Potter will love Chandelle LaVaun and Megan Montero’s brand new urban fantasy series!

Pick up Midnight Mage and enter The Night Realm today!

Dynamic Duo and Besties to boot- Chandelle LaVaun and Megan Montero have teamed up to give the world a whole new realm to explore: The Night Realm. I am here for this! Midnight Mage is the first book to release and it sets the stage. The world building is extensive and intriguing.

It’s Halloween and what can some cosplaying high schoolers want more than to win the costume contest at the party of the year? That is what Ellie and her friends are hoping to do, which is why they came to Tyler’s party in the first place. So how exactly did she end up playing spin-the-bottle and who was that guy she just kissed? And some kiss that must have been because all around her the hustle and bustle of New York City has gone quiet. The skyscrapers are gone and who the heck is that chasing her? Ellie’s world just got turned upside down… where is she? And can she really do magic? Enter The Night Realm and find out…

Ellie is proud of her geekdom status, her friends are fabulously hers and they get her. Her bestie is extremely popular, and that is just how Ellie likes it. She can join in and still avoid the center of the stage. Until a fateful game of spin the bottle, which has her stumbling into a different realm. Now although scared, Ellie knows that she has to suck it up buttercup. An evil guy is after her and instead of crying in a corner. Ellie is determined to try her best to master this new magic in her, she wants to survive and get back home.

Imagine growing up in a kingdom that has tyrants as rulers. The kind of ruler that cares only for themselves. Now, add in that those rulers are your parents- who you are ashamed of. Now you have the mindset of Prince Stellan. Yes, an actual freaking prince. Let me tell you, dang… cause Stellan is the whole freaking package. When he finds Ellie in his realm, he has to help her. Help her to know his world, know her power, and know just who he is. Rebellion is coming to his realm and it will take both of them to finish the fight.

The secondary characters at times steal the show, but only for a second or two. Nickle has a big personality, but it doesn’t overshadow Ellie’s. The dukes sense of humor and pure enjoyment of life makes you hope that there is a novella coming out staring them and well you. Melanie’s gentleness with introducing Ellie to the world and her ability to speak geek leave you wondering…just who or what she is. Araqiel’s guidance of how to overcome the obstacles (trying not to give spoilers) is well just hilarious. #Tacosforlife

The world building is spectacularly done, without it being cumbersome to learn. Ellie and Stellan make a fabulous team, one with mutual respect and a fair amount of chemistry. The action scenes are fun, with a fair amount of whole crap who will win in the end. Speaking of endings…holy cliffhanger, batman- so unfair. I seriously kept trying to turn the page on my kindle to find out what happens next.

In this first novel from two of our favorite authors we find the beginnings of a whole new world-building saga to look forward to as we wait patiently for COVID to clear. It is a joy to have a place to lose yourself these days and this selection is certainly a fine place to start!

We get to meet a brand new heroine and hero who are both deep and delectable, enemies from many sides, a supporting cast of interesting and formidable characters, and a multifaceted realm that includes all the usual peoples we are used to in our complicated fantasy storybooks. The premise of traveling through the worlds to assemble an item to save the day with its many pitfalls sure to come is an attractive planned writing pathway that builds a fun anticipation. Certainly this team's humor and pop culture references also make their writing a great deal of fun and always keep me entertained. I am as excited as can be for the next installment from these fab ladies.
I was given an ARC copy of this work prior to release and this is my honest review.

As always, these two amazing authors did it again. They draw you in with the storyline, the plot twists (there are some major ones already just in book 1,) the imagery, and the characters. Oh the characters. Not only do you get a badass heroine, you get a badass female supporting character as well (trust me, you'll adore her.) Then you have the fantastic hero who is protective, but still lets the heroine do her own thing. He's accompanied by his own Sherlock and Watson sidekicks. ;) This book definitely deserves its spot as a #1 new release in teen and young adult coming of age fantasy!

I had high expectations for this co-write because I love Chandelle LaVaun’s Coven series and Megan Montero’s Royal Witch court series.
They SLAYED it. Killed it. I loved the way this series kicked off! It had everything I like about each of their writing styles, witty pop culture references and even a rant about a certain Marvel character, (I see you, Chandelle, I giggled the whole time). I also love how their heroines are never just one thing. They show a multifaceted character from the beginning with a lovable amount of weird and quirky that makes me wish they were real. I am anxiously waiting for their next installment in this series.

I’ve read all the books by Chandelle and Megan and enjoyed each one. Their books are funny, great stories and characters that are interesting even the secondary characters. When I found out they were writing a series together I knew it would be amazing but I honestly had no idea how good this book would be.

Ellie is great! She’s funny and has a love for all things Marvel and other fantasy fiction. I love all of the pop fiction (Marvel, Tony Stark, etc.) references.

Stellan - he’s hot! And I won’t put any spoilers but yum!!!

The world that is introduced in these books is fantastic!!! Vampires, shifters, angels, Mages - themes written about many times but not like this. I’m so excited to read more and find out where it goes!

plenty of action and magic! though the attention to detail and consistency could have been better, i enjoyed the story. the last scene was confusing but maybe that was the point to - encourage reading the sequel. Stellan fell on the hardwood floor, cracking his head on the stone. so, which is it? hardwood or stone? the elevator was marble. Ellie went first through the doors but Stellan gets pulled back, then she is pushed through? can't tell directions, in or out, or where anyone is. guess that why I'll have to read next one to find out!

From the very first couple of chapters I was hooked! Stayed up late so that I could read it all. A whole new world from two of my favorite authors to explores and discover with just enough storyline and characters there is something for everyone. I so want to travel to the second realm! It does end in a cliff hanger, which is to be expected from these authors. I cannot wait for the next instalment.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW awesome first book

This book was such an awesome mix of both author's!

Ellie starts out as a shy girl who has no idea that magic is real to a sassy powerful mage who has her soulmate and new bestie.

Melanie who is Ellie's new bestie is an amazing supporting role, has a secret that noone knows and is a real twist when reviled, it brought tears to my eyes

Stellan is Ellie's soulmate, he has been through sooo much in his life and is totally against everything his parents stand for, but plays the good boy role infront of them.

So Ellie finds out she has magic after going through a portal, gets attacked by the evil villan and makes a new friend. Melanie and Stellan teach Ellie to harness her magic to a degree and Stellan takes her back to New York where they find out Ellie has a very special role to play in saving second realm.

Ok so my thoughts: this book is action packed from page one, you are fully emersed into this world where you forget it isn't real. You go through a whole range of emotions from happy to sad to angry.

I believe anyone from the age of 15 would enjoy this book, it has romance, but not over the top or graphic (which I expected nothing less from either author)
