I just cant believe how quickly this woman can draw me into her stories. I was laughing and then sobbing the next minute. How does she do that to me? Honestly I am not pmsing, she can drag my emotions that fast from high to low! I have struggled with the loss of my wife for going on five years after being together for forty three years. This story hit me very hard in spots, sobbing and then giggling. This is just what I needed to read to center me again after a rather stressful week. Seriously buy this book, grab a glass of wine and have a delightful read.

I think it’s important to preface this review with my desire to see more of the cheesy, smutty, old-lady dollar-store novels attributed to the likes of Iris Johansson and Nora Roberts (no offense, ma’ams), but gay. Very gay. So gay it’s cringe.

You’re My Kind is that, mostly, but not as lovably trashy as I imagined. Ms. Lydon, please consider that two-thirds compliment, one-third complaint. It’s well-written, though rife with Britishisms, which I am legally bound to protest as an American citizen. I didn’t laugh at ALL the jokes, but I suspect I may not have understood all of them, as I am VERY American. It’s not a comedy, anyway, so I’m not sure that matters. All in all, this was a cute book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I read it alongside Virginia Woolf, and this was a balm in comparison. I’ve still got most of Orlando to go, but I was racing through this one.

I WILL be personally recommending You’re My Kind to my own lesbian friends, who I know will enjoy seeing some sapphic rep in mainstream romance writing.

This book had been sitting in my queue for a while. I would think about reading it then end up reading something else. Finally, I committed to reading it. I had no idea it would include the loss of loved ones. Now I know why I was supposed to read it now. In the last month I lost my dad, my beloved cat, and have continued to watch my mom decline with dementia. This book had me crying but also laughing because apparently Ms. Lydon's humor is as crazy as my family's humor. There was a point in the book when I was like WTF at Maddie and telling Justine, forget her... but truth be told if it was my love I probably would have done the same so I just cried for Justine haha.
A lot of words to say I truly enjoyed your book. Thanks for writing it. I laughed, cried, got frustrated, basically all the feels.
I'm not a great critic so hardly ever leave reviews but I would say, read it I think you will enjoy it.

I’ve bought and read a number of CL’s books and most are light, entertaining romcoms. This one was the best book I’ve read by her to date and had depth and emotional resonance and some humor, but more with secondary characters than between the main characters.

I felt like this was a good book, but it missed the mark on really drawing me in. I don't regret getting it.

(Kinda spoilers below)

This book failed with a combination of non-stop time skips, death, and teenage level drama.

There was a time skip almost every chapter, I swear. It was days and weeks at a time. It just felt like there was a rush to finish and fall in love. It left me missing those details that really connect a good book together. I wanted to know more about the TV show and what their early relationship was like.

I loved the idea of facing true grief in a book. I just don't think that happened with this book. It felt more like being punched by someone saying their was grief every few chapter. There was an opportunity to talk about how they really experienced it, but that was barely there.

Justine was constantly dragging up Maddie's past deeds even when she had said she was over it. That lack of honesty with each other, especially from a relationship with previous knowledge, just felt a bit ridiculous. Justine was just placing a lot of the pressure to hold the relationship together on Maddie. At the end it got better, yet that was just to late for me.

I don't normally make recs on others books, but I feel like it is a great book where old loves find each other again.

Look for The Art of Us by KL Hughes.

Justine and Maddie were such a great couple. It is sad they were away from each other for so long. They became strong independent women who found their way back to one another. Another awesome book by Clare Lydon. It was an outstanding read.

You're My Kind is a bit atypical compared to the rest of Lydon's production, in that it's a more intimate story that draws from personal experience.
Clare's irresistible British humour is still there, but in a more somber and mature context heralded by the loss of a loved one.

I loved how the author introduced the cast at a low point, and took them from there through a celebration of the loved ones lost along the way.
And when she brought the story to a wrap in the final act, she did so on a hopeful and joyful note.

You're My Kind is an emotional read, and one that should not be missed.

Clare knocks it out of the park again, a great mix of comedy, angst, build up, fiery scenes and of course the lovely HEA. I think the grief of all characters involved was also handled beautifully. I know that when I pick up a book from Clare that I am going to enjoy it and have a hard time putting it down. This book is no different. Pick it up today.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute delight

When I started reading this book, I thought it was a regular HEA: you go to a funeral, meet your one who got away withouta trace, they explaint hemselves, you meet some new obstacles before living happily ever after.
As I continued reading on it was anything but. It deals with grief. My heart went out to Maddie when she was struggling to move on from her loses, two of the most important people in as so many years to the same illness. I can only imaginge what one's goes through when they lose someone close to them.
I liked the storyline and how everything worked out in the end.
Definitely a must buy!

Me gustó la historia tiene un poco de todo humor y risas, más centrado en una historia real más que en un cuento de hadas donde todo es felices para toda la vida

This was the first book from this writer that I read and I wasn't expecting much. But I was pleasantly surprised, it had so many good moments, great lines, good humor.. I ended up highlighting a looot of lines. Pain, loss, fears-- they have been dealt excellently. I would wanna read this again on a rainy day. Kudos to the writer.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Clare did very well and she packed the whole range of emotions, hope, love, grief into the book. And it sets itself apart from her other books; it is refreshingly different from her series. How I’d love to enrol in Justine’s cookie school and spend some time with her friends!
