Blind Sight (The Celadon Circle Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 191 ratings

Jordan has visions of monsters, demons, and death. Seventeen, orphaned, and born into the family business, she doesn’t have friends, she doesn’t have choices. Her uncle, older brothers, and a few annoying angels dominate her life, demanding she tow their lines – and the punishment is severe when those lines are crossed.

When Jordan is ordered to help hunt down a monster, she’s not sure which she dreads more: the elusive, blood-thirsty creature or spending time in a cramped backwoods cabin with a brother who despises her. To make matters worse, a demon shows up and warns Jordan that she could be her family’s next assignment.

In a game between Good and Evil where God seems to have tapped out early, lines are blurred and not everything is as it seems. Jordan learns a little too late that the real monster is closer than she thinks.

Blind Sight (The Celadon Circle) / Nicole StoreyBig Al's Books and Pals: booksandpals.blogspot.com/2014/02/blind-sight-celadon-circle-nicole-storey.htmlReviewed by: ?wazithinkinThe Celedon Circle is a secret society of human demon slayers. Jordan is a seeker, born and raised to fight demons along with her family. Being a seeker makes her rare and highly valued for her visions of demon activity. The story starts with one of Jordan's visions of an unusually horrific monster which has been summoned in a small Tennessee town. Ms. Storey paints graphic pictures of the carnage this monster wreaks and the reader is grabbed by the throat and dragged into the story.Other than her unique ability and special family circumstances, Jordan is more or less a typical teenager and her humanity is demonstrated throughout the book. With the story being told through Jordan's eyes we get to know her well along with her perspective of some not so good angels and not so bad demons. The lines between good and evil are blurred and the twists in this character-driven plot are startling. I also found all of the characters realistic and well developed, their dialogue was believable, and the relationships authentic. I have to confess I was held captive through the entire story. The Tennessee story thread is tied up nicely at the end so there is not a cliffhanger ending. However, I can't wait to see how things develop as Jordan's world is turned upside down by an unexpected twist at the end. This could turn into a stellar series. If you are looking for a different sort of urban fantasy this may be a book you would enjoy.

I picked up Blind Sight because I had heard good things about it and wanted to expand my reading choices. YA Paranormal is not my usual go to choice. I wasn’t disappointed. The hardest part was putting this old mind into that of a teenager. But Nicole Story drew me in from the first page. Her characters are believable and well developed.
I particularly enjoyed seeing into the mind of Jordan, the antagonist. Her thoughts and dialogue were so typically teen but with a knack for colourful analogies and turns of phrase, even in the midst of danger that had me smiling. Jordan is stuck with the nasty job of hunting and killing demons. Sure, angels sometimes help but they can be a pain, too. Both get her dander up and she doesn’t hold back on her feelings about that. Nor is she a sissy. She can take out a trio of teens quicker than an 007 spy and defies pain and fear to stop her from protecting her family – and the rest of the world.
In between hunting and dispatching demons and other nasty characters she still finds time to make a friend, the sweet girl Wendy, who grows into a strong character in her own right, one I particularly liked.
The action never stops and the nasties Jordan faces from the ‘other side’ are drawn in a unique way, each with its own personality. They are not what you’d expect - especially the angels.
Story has woven a well-crafted, complex story with more twists and turns than you can count and an ending that will have you holding your breath waiting for the next installment. Teens who like paranormal stories will devour it. Bravo.
There was only one small spot where I wondered about a detail but I think most readers will sail over it without noticing.

Being a teenage girl and growing up without a mother is tough enough. Throw in special powers, a brother who resents you and angels and demon vying for your attention, and you have the world going crazy around you.

Jordan has visions that allow her to see evil monsters. She relays those images to her brothers who hunt the creature and kill it before it can do more damage. Jordan is isolated, but loves her family. Her only friend is her family’s guardian angel, but even he has been acting shady as of late.

Jordan’s most recent vision sends the entire family on a hunt to Tennessee where they have to destroy a rare creature that is killing people in a small town. This hunt is anything but ordinary – if killing mystical creatures can be called ordinary – as Jordan learns more about her true nature.

The book is well written and the action moved throughout. The twists are interesting and you feel for Jordan. She tries her best, but that may not be good enough because things happened before she was born that she cannot change.

This is the first book in the Celadon Series by Nicole Storey, but you don’t have to worry about there being a major cliffhanger at the end. The creature story wraps up and all the big secrets are out in the open.

However, I’m intrigued to see where Jordan’s next adventure will take her.

Jordan is a demon slayer. At least she was before she started having visions. Now she relays her visions to her brothers Nathan and Quinn. Her uncle is the head of the clan. Her mother died in childbirth and her father left one day and never returned. She and her family are part of the Circle, a group whose sole purpose is to destroy demons and evil creatures.

Her guardian angel, Gabriel, has been assigned to the family since she was born. Now he's been reassigned somewhere else. Something isn't right. Her vision takes them to Tennessee, where a beast is feasting on people. It's not at all what they thought. Jordan is not at all what she thinks she is.

The book has a slow start, but got better. I need to finish this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic start to a series!

I knew that NSB was a good author from her Grimsley Hollow - Eve of the Beginning series, but this is something altogether different and brilliant!
Set amongst the back drop of warring Angels and Demons, Jordans family are slayers, for the Good side of course!
She has the visions and her "boys" do the slaying, but she certainly knows how to look after herself. The only problem is that's her life.... no boys, no mall shopping, no friends, no fun :(
Their latest challenge is a nasty hell monster that seems to be doing the bidding of an upset teenager, unaware he is selling his soul for revenge.
As the tension mounts all sorts of twists and turns occur, then in the last few chapters you really get some buggy eyed moments!
What a brilliant set up and ending, cant wait for the next installment!
NSB has the talent to invent worlds that you want to be part of, but maybe only as a spectator!

I agree with just about every positive comment that has been made about this book so there is little for me to add. I enjoyed every word of the story. What an imagination the author has! I loved how the characters came across as real people with good and bad characteristics. I loved the pace that led to the build up of excitement and expectation. I loved it all and look forward to the next one.It is thoroughly deserving of five stars.
