Frankly I put this series off way to long. I originally downloaded it as a “Free Offer” on Amazon by the author, and I sat it aside for later, and of course I downloaded the rest of the series, also as “Free Offers” via Amazon and the Author, over time. No I didn’t read any of them, as I was busily reading through all of the authors other fabulous books…”Tanner Series”, “Taken Series”, “Caliber”, “Blue Steele”, and of course all of his standalone novels as well (all excellent but they will receive, or have received their own reviews).

So after finishing a “Beta Read” for the author, I decided to read this and all I can say is “WOW!”. To say I was surprised would be an understatement. I’m now on book 6 in the series with 2 more to go…Each of them will receive their own review in time.

I don’t do spoilers so I recommend you read the “Authors Book Blurb”, and even “Take a Look Inside” using that Amazon Feature. What I DO NOT recommend is that you make a decision solely on the posted reviews, as they are extremely mixed (64 Total Reviews: 45 Positive Reviews: 18 Critical Reviews thus giving the book an overall 3.9 out of 6 Star Rating…Trust me. It’s much better than that).

While it’s categorized as a “Suspense Thriller” it is actually much more than that. It’s about “family”, “greed”, “betrayals”, and “redemption”. It is, or could be, considered a “study in human nature”.

Yes. I enjoyed the book, as I found it very reminiscent of “The Carpetbaggers” and other titles by the late author Mr. Harold Robbins (if you liked him you will definitely like this series).

Thank you Mr. Kane for this series. Thank you for making them available to us on Kindle Unlimited and thank you even more for your generous gift with your “Free Book of The Day”.

Now Back to my reading of Book 6.

I received this book as a gift from the author - but would definitely have spent money on it if I hadn't gotten it for free.

I really wanted to give this book 3.5 stars but that's not an available option. The good things about this book - I find that far too many people have a hard time writing good characters. That is the farthest thing from true with this book. The author has written characters that you have feelings for by the end. I loved Boomer & Lindsay, I HATED Derek & Charlotte, I was confused by McGee and I felt so much sympathy for Jenny. All of the characters had something to add to the story. They were written wonderfully. The storyline & plot twists to me were very believable. It's a scary thing to think that people could have the capacity to do the things that happened in this book, but between the news & the paper, it's obvious that people will stop at nothing to get what they want. I cried at the end with the final story twist. It was poignant and touching.

The bad - I had a hard time with the writing style. The entire book is essentially narrated. I have read tons of books that are written in the 1st person POV and plenty more that are written in the 3rd person POV but rarely have I ever gotten through a narration of this length. Having said that, it wasn't enough of a problem to hinder my overall enjoyment of the and in no way detracted from the quality in any way, it's just not a style I am usually interested in.

I have already purchased the next book in the series and am hoping that it continues to get better.

What can I say this story was so compelling. I will say however, that the story is"NOT" about romance. Even though the cover might suggest it, it is not. This story is about incest, rape, murder, lies and deceit. However, in saying that it is a good story. Yes, a man wrote it so what it does not make it a bad story. Um maybe the critics are just sexist or feminist, take your choice.
I honestly almost deleted the story from my kindle, I just thought oh God, I can't go any further. But man I am so glad I finished it.
Someone said they felt sorry for Derek, oh hell no... maybe as a child sure but not as an adult. Everyone takes responsibility for their own actions as an adult, plain and simple.
Lindsay and Jason, what can I say? Jason was not a stalker as one critic suggest, how can an 8 year old be a stalker, good Lord, where is your head at?
I did love how deep his love was for her, his Angel.
I read a lot of the critics reviews obviously, and some are so off base. But hey that's their opinion. Right?
This book is dark, and yes it is long; but sometimes a book has to be long to get the story right.
If a person is so pissed off for what is written, I'd say the author did his job.
Good job Mr. Wells, good job.

I must confess I downloaded this book because it was free, but after reading it I must say I would have easily paid money for it.

The synopsis only scratches the surface. Without giving anything away, the book is not a snapshot of time, it tells a life story. Oh boy what a story!!!

The author writes brilliantly, after only a few pages I felt I knew the characters, which in turn meant I felt their joys and their sorrows.

Absolutely recommend this book and I will be back for more.

Another good set of books from Donald Wells. These are also short and sweet and link in together. As before they are not taxing on the brain and a good read on the train as you can put them down and pick them up again a few days later.

I have to say that I was hooked on this book, once I started it I couldn't put my kindle down. Such a well crafted story with lots of twists and turns. Derek was fantastic in just how much depravity he showed. I didn't think he could get any worse and some how he did. Jason and Lindsay were a great couple, I was swept away with their love story and actually shed a tear in places, (without giving too much away!) All round a great day of sitting in the garden enjoying the sun and getting caught up in a great book! 10/10!

A really good and well written story but sometimes I felt that it was a bit too gushing with the I love you. I feel as if I now need to read something a bit more heavy to swing the balance back a bit before I read the next book, of which I definitely will.
